I am just afraid that this has the potential to turn into a Brady Quinn deal. I know that Condon is BC, is in the Hall of Fame and a great agent.

I would hate to see a hold-out situation and all of Matt's goodwill take a beating - that's all. This is my personal opinion. I know it's a business, etc. I'm hoping Matt can get through this process and start off on the right foot with his new team and new fans. He will need to get into the playbook and practice/study mode on Day One. My humble opinion.

As for Brady Quinn and Cleveland - he may get his chance next year, and he may not. I wish Matt a better entry into the pro arena. He could actually start right away for his new team.Big Jack Krackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12202172743722727956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9512562.post-80238650252761972212008-01-23T00:10:00.000-05:002008-01-23T00:10:00.000-05:00I think we have all seen the flaws in Trillbe and ...I think we have all seen the flaws in Trillbe and Cherilus through the year and they are showing up in practice. My understanding is that all of the coaches and personnel people are long gone by game time. They are there to watch the drills and the one-one-one performances. That being said - there is something about being a "gamer" and I am sure Silva meets that criteria.

As far as Ryan - Condon is a top notch agent and knows what he is doing. He is a BC guy, in the Varsity Hall of Fame and represents Peyton Manning among others (Kiwi). He probably has a pretty good handle on where Ryan is going an to whom. As a result, there is probably no upside and only downside. If nothing else, everyone in the NFL knows it's a business and very few contract related things are taken personally. I am sure Matt will do the combine interviews and wonderlich test but no way he throws, runs or lifts other than at the BC Pro day. He's negotiating from a position of strength.ORDEaglehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09718141021045757797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9512562.post-15063814829442715142008-01-22T22:14:00.000-05:002008-01-22T22:14:00.000-05:00If you're talking about that great Trueblood/Marte...If you're talking about that great Trueblood/Marten/Beekman/Cherilus unit of a few seasons ago, don't forget the man in the middle. Pat Ross was actually the first BC student I met when I came to freshman orientation. I had flown in from San Francisco the night before orientation and was by myself in a suite in Vandy. PRoss came over and talked with me and then invited me back to his suite for pizza. I hung out with him and the other Orientation Leaders until 3 in the morning. What a cool way to get welcomed to BC.BCNorCal07https://www.blogger.com/profile/14729019789737618964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9512562.post-76771809456961237152008-01-22T20:13:00.000-05:002008-01-22T20:13:00.000-05:00I'm not that concerned about what the scouts, or S...I'm not that concerned about what the scouts, or SI, say about Ryan's draft stock. He's a solid QB that should transition to the pro game quite well given the offense he's played in at BC.

Personally, I'd like to see him go high (i.e. 1st round), but not first overall and perhaps not even the first QB chosen. The expectations are always irrationally high for the first overall pick and that pick disappoints more often than not. In other words, I would rather see Ryan overachieve than underachieve.

As for his agent, though, I'm with you BJK, Ryan shouldn't let his agent make decisions that are only in the best intestest of Tom Condon.Nick P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/18440562436630430871noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9512562.post-81418486633784102008-01-22T18:41:00.000-05:002008-01-22T18:41:00.000-05:00Hello Ordeagle:Cherilus and Tribble will have to p...Hello Ordeagle:

Cherilus and Tribble will have to play well in the game.

Concerning Ryan. I mentioned a few threads ago that I personally thought he would hurt himself by not playing - I do not like his agent for this reason. Furthermore, if Condon advises Matt to hold out on his contract negotiations once he is drafted - wherever that is in the 1st round - much of the goodwill he has built up character-wise will go out the window. I will be very disappointed if this happens.

Some of these writers seem to have an ax to grind, also. I seem to remember that Silva took some hits in terms of his reviews prior to the East-West Shrine Game. I didn't see the 2nd half, but I'm told he was flying all over the field, and the announcers were very praiseworthy in their comments about him.

Obviously, I hope SI is wrong about our players. Let's go Matt - maneuver around this potential minefield - it's your life, not your agent's.Big Jack Krackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12202172743722727956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9512562.post-48268738656454292052008-01-22T18:19:00.000-05:002008-01-22T18:19:00.000-05:00Thanks Bill - how could I forget Beekman? I think he'd be perfect in San Francisco, but that's just a 'Niners homer talking. I think the perfect situation for Gos would be to go to a team where he would have a chance right away at right tackle. This year gave me doubts about his ability on the left, but he had been a beast on the right before.BCNorCal07https://www.blogger.com/profile/14729019789737618964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9512562.post-65417185223574867572008-01-21T14:54:00.000-05:002008-01-21T14:54:00.000-05:00Jim,I just dip my toes in recruiting news.
