Basketball wins; Jags back in Boston

The basketball team beat Yale. This was the best effort of the games Dudley has missed. He'll be back Saturday for the now critical game against NC State. I think we need to go 10-6 in ACC play to overcome our uneven non-conference performance.

Jags is now in Boston, but check out the pic of him cleaning out his office on packers.com. He looks good in maroon.

Here are more photos from the Bowl game. Ty Hall's dad might be the most photographed BC parent of all time.

Here is the AP article on Logan coming to BC. Many have wondered why he sat out of the game for so long and why he is coming back now. Well I think it speaks well of Jags that one of his mentors is willing to work for him, but the article also mentions that Logan's contract with ECU just expired Jan. 1.

Once again BC comes out flat to start the second half against an inferior opponent and lets them back into the game. On top of that, this is the third game in a row that BC has blown a double digit lead. Al Skinner has got to be one of the worst in-game coaches I have ever seen. He makes absolutely 0 half-time adjustments and has a fetish of playing big white oafs who can't do a thing on the court (Nate D. and now John Oates). Granted he is a fantastic recruiter, but this in-game coaching has got to improve or BC will be off to the NIT with a talented team much like they did back in Troy Bell's senior season.

WERE YOU AT THE GAME? THEY REALLY DID NOT COME OUT FLAT IN THE SECOND HALF. YALE HIT AT LEAST 3 CONTESTED BOMBS TO START. BC GOT GOOD LOOKS BUT THE BALLS DIDN'T FALL. THEY PLAYED TOUGH DEFENSE EXCEPT FOR ONE IN BOUNDS PLAY.
THE WHITE STIFFS PALYED WELL. OATES GIVES THEM VALUABLE MINUTES AND ROACHE PLAYED VERY GOOD DEFENSE. THESE ARE ROLE PLAYERS AL MUST THEM. I THINK AL IS A VERY GOOD GAME COACH. HE COACHES EACH GAME TO AS PART OF THE SEASON. ROACHE CAME OUT OF NOWHERE LAST NIGHT TO PLAY OVER 20 MINUTES. BASED ON HIS PERFOMRANCE IN THE DUQUESNE GAME I DID NOT THINK HE COULD CONTRIBUTE AT ALL. RICE IS TAKING MORE RESPONSIBILITY. THE DUQUESNE LOSS WAS A REAL SETBACK(DESPITE THE POOR PLAY, THE OFFICIATING REALLY COST THEM THE GAME) BUT THIS TEAM HAS DEVELOPED SOME DEPTH, WHICH COULD HELP DOWN THE STRETCH. STILL A TOUGH ROAD TO THE NCAA. 18-20 WINS WILL LEAVE IT THE HANDS OF GENE TO WORK THE COMMITTEE.

WHERE IS JAGS? HE IS TAKING HITS ON SPORTS RADIO FOR BEING INVISIBLE. WEEI IS DUMPING ALL OVER HIM. HE NEEDS TO GET GOING. WAITING FOR OFFICIAL WORD ON LOGAN (GREAT HIRE) THE OTHER GUYS LOOK LIKE LIGHT WEIGHTS. THOUGH TURNER IS A HARD WORKER.

Sammie, first of all, stop with the all caps. Second, you continue to overestimate the importance of winning favor with the EEI guys. I worked at EEI back in the day and until BC wins back to back national titles, we will never be their focus or change their attitude. They are a good station, but they will continue to focus on the Sox and Pats. What Jags needs to do is focus on recruiting and energize the current BC fanbase first. The bandwagon will come or go based on what happens on the field, not based on what happens on the airwaves.

Now, your going to get me going.

I think you understate the importance of WEEI or any sports station around here. Everyone at this site are diehard fans. As I have said before I have hardly missed a football or bball game since I was 4 years old (1961) If I am not at the game, my wife has to leave the house to me and my 2 boys (BC rug in their rooms). But there are not many of us left. Many of my friends have gotten bored with it and don't have the time to be such diehards. For the "program" to succeed at a high level BC must expand their fan base. Do they need cheerleading from EEI or other stations? No. But they have to be able to create a less negative attitude. It is all about marketing. The ACC move was about money and marketing. The stadium holds 44,500. Conti holds 8,500. What are the biggest gripes of TOB, Gene, Skinner. The lack of a true home court or field advantage. Late arriving crowds, quiet crowds. They had 4500 hand sitters at the BBall game last night. They couldn't give tickets away to Buffalo and Duke. Actually-they did give them away just to get a body count. Have you seen who the ticket buyers are? They are the old local Alums. Well, I got news for you, they are getting old. They are the families that have had season tickets for years. They are 60-70 years old. They have season tickets for football, bball and hockey. I've seen the same people year in year out. What has happened the last couple of years? Despite being perenial national champion challengers, the hockey team's attendance has gone down every year. They now sell children's tickets for $10.00 and still are not close to sellouts most of the time. They have tickets available for the Maine series. Ever remember that happening under Jerry York?

These people are gettng too old to be up at the Heights 3 or 4 times a week. They also do not want to spend the money. Many older season ticket holders who used to sit near me for Bball either moved their seats so not to have to pay the license fee or they gave up their hockey tickets to save money. Even my contemporaries (late 70s early 80s) have let their hockey tickets go and moved to the cheap seats for Bball. Boston is a tough sports town to begin with. All of BC's teams are a losing season away from huge attendance drops, especially with the new costs associated with the
season tickets. If they are 2-4, how many do you think are showing up for the Army game next year or URI the following year?

You were not at BC when Coughlin was there. The football program took a back seat to nobody. Bill Parcells was coach of the Pats then and he had to tell the media to stop talking about the ND game and focus on the Patriots. The talk shows were into BC then and the stadium got increased in size and the place was packed. And people went to Bowl games. They even "travelled well" for both the Hall of Fame Bowl (Tenn) and Carquest Bowl (Virginia) back then. These were not just Alums.

Right now there is little positive spin, media wise, on anything that happens at BC and it has to change. TOB was horrible with the media. His show was an embarrassment. He was a laughing stock. Gene looks like he is in over head when it comes to these issues. Come on, he hooks up with eei and watches them put Notre Dame games on 850 head to head against BC games on their lesser station. He was not prepared for TOB showing up on National TV. That should have been Jags. Jags should have been seen during the past two weeks. Not in a bunker. Coughlin was coaching to the super bowl and was in the Boston media every day. Don't forget, he called Pete Kendall from the locker, on national tv after the Giants won the Super bowl. Many of Gene's media decisions have turned out badly.

BC has to get the non alums and the young kids to buy into these programs, become fans and to buy their gear. If they do not, the school and the local Alumni base is not big enough to sustain big time programs. Especially with the seat licenses and tailgating and parking issues.

So I beg to differ with you.

People like gordonsleftfoot should care what these morons say and think and should hope that BC can get media savey enough to at least limit the negativity.
