I'm in Nashville for the game today and I stopped at a Waffle House for breakfast. The locals were singing the praises of their baby qb. Apparently he was clocked running a 3.9 forty and cured the AIDS virus at the same time. I would love to see how fast he'll run after our DT's get ahold of him.
One of these days, we'll get to a BCS Bowl. Until then, let's keep our heads up and win this one convincingly for our 14th overall Bowl victory, and 9th year in a row!!!! Let's say it again - 9th season in a row!!!!!
Pipsqueek Lou Holtz aside - he says that BC "always falls to a lesser bowl, against a lesser opponent - hence that's why they always win" --- 8 straight victories is pretty impressive against Arizona State, 16th ranked Georgia(pro-Georgia crowd of 46,125 left disappointed), Toledo (partisan crowd in Detroit), Colorado State, North Carolina (65,000+ UNC fans in Charlotte), Boise State (snapped their 31 game home winning streak - can you imagine a bowl against a team in their home stadium?), Navy (amid a head coaching defection) and Big Ten Michigan State - and hopefully today against Vanderbilt. Let's go undefeated for the decade in Bowl games and see how many teams can claim that distinction!!!
Music City Bowl December 31, 2008 Boston College 24 Vanderbilt 7
well davis doesnt look like he is going to be able to hit anybody today, awful opening.....we should be very run heavy....crap and now they have 2 passes and are at our 25
I would have hoped we would establish the run as Vandy is very tough against the pass. Throwing on both 2nd and 3rd down was not a good offensive strategy on that 1st drive.
It's a good thing we held them to 3 there as I doubt a Davis-led offense is going to score more than 14 points today. Hopefully, we can get a defensive score to get us around 20 points.
Defenses typically start out behind the 8-ball in bowl games and Vandy does have the wind. We are extremely lucky to only be down by 6 at this point.
Logan needs to just pound the ball even if we do not get first downs. At this point, we need to make this a physical game and just try to wear them down.
Davies has a great point. Montel Harris has the BC freshman rushing record and he is sitting on the sidelines. Then again, he is probably in the doghouse for dropping two passes thrown right to him. But Harris' strength is running the ball so please feed him the rock!
And Big Jack, the only reason why BC has such a long bowl winning streak is because they lose the big games and then get stuck playing pitiful teams in crappy bowls. Holtz was actually spot on for once in his life.
Well--we're hittin' these guys hard on D--but giving the ball back on automatic isn't gettin' it. That baby QB of theirs has zero to lose in this game--it's time for Herzy & co. to score for us...again. Is this a scary pattern or is it just me?
Davies' comments (Domer-esque and Holtzian as they are) are beginning to make me nuts. Can't do the margaritas until we get a lead--and that means we need a turnover in margaritaville...Is Tennant ok?
What is the Logan game plan? Thank God for Purvis and Harris...but we're lookin' random. Maybe it's time for my Champs Sports Bowl T-Shirt voodoo move 'cuz we need some luck! And yes...we score! At long last. Go Eagles! (It's weird to hear Davies give DD the Kid some love...I'm cutting some limes.) I feel an Eagle defensive TD comin'...
what happened right before halftime?? i am stuck at work and watching on the ESPN computer feed. It had BC calling time after third down with 37 seconds left then it just said halftime.
You're right, Big Jack--we'll be into that wind in 4th qtr. Looks like we'll need atleast 3 TDs more to make this happen--we got to move it move it. Go Eagles!
I'm sick and tired of these mental mistakes on special teams. That was absolutely inexcusable. The returner needs to yell "fire" when punts are gong near other players. We are in a deep whole now as it will be nearly impossible to score against the wind.
Ok - all kidding aside - it's now time to get tough and roll over these guys.
We're capable of doing this. It's time for nice guy Coach Jags (who I like) to start jumping around and lighting some fires under people. We have adversity - let's overcome by running right through that wall.
special teams players...really smart...throw your hands up and pretend that 50,000 people didn't see the football hit you. don't bother telling the return man.
at least we have a high graduation rate.
did you hear holtz say that at halftime and then get made fun of? really nice, espn.
Anderson is a freaking moron. He knew the ball hit him yet he said nothing to the actual returner to pick up the damn ball nor did he make any attempt to recover the ball himself. Moron. The way the BC offense has been sucking it up all day, that could be the game winning play.
Can someone explain why Harris, the leading freshman rusher in BC history, is on the sidelines? You have to go with your best players in bowl games. C'mon!
That's it - it shows the mind set of these coaches today - out to lunch.
Worse than anything Dana Bible ever did.
I might just go ahead and shut this off - never in my life have I done that. Logan has been a huge disappointment. It's time for Davis to shake him off and play football.
Vandy's offense is beyond mediocre, maybe worse than ours. I bet we could have won this game 7-6. We just need some kind of turnover or something. They are absolutely killing us on these rugby kicks. What can you do to defend them? Send the returner up short to fair catch it!
With this offense, it's a game of field position. Vandy knows that. They haven't done anything on offense with the exception of that long pass on the second drive. They don't need to.
This team's offense is not fun to watch, for sure. But this defense...is fun to watch. We're still hanging around.
We're against the wind in the 4th, but we haven't thrown anything longer than a roll-out to the flat pass all game, so it may not matter.
Big Jack, that's exactly whatss's happening--Logan is way too much behind the wheel in this game. We had #17 on one leg and never thrwe down on him...we let Harris watch the game from the sideline on 4th 'n 1...WTF?
Guys, if you are turning the TV off now, you might as well not even watch next season. We will lose Raji, Brace and probably Herzlich which will be a huge drop off in talent. Almost everyone returns on offense, but this offense is just not that good. We might be lucky to win 6 games next year.
It's time for our #1 ranked D to get the ball back and score. C'mon Herzy and Raji and the D gang--we need some real football to happen right now! Go Eagles! Enough of this BS!
I was making the point that no one should be turning of the TV when we are in a close game.
The defense has played extremely well from mid-1st quarter on. You cannot criticize their performance today. The offense, on the other hand, has been anemic. You cannot win college football games by scoring only 7 points. Vandy has a very good defense, but BC should be able to put up at least 14 points on these guys.
I was just making a point that special teams has been killing BC whether it be their inability to field kickoffs or punts or the idiotic fumble Vandy scored on. This unit is responsible for the future loss.
I know it is looking very bleak, but I have to think we are going to score. This is a shit-ass bowl that no one is watching, so it does not really matter, but I would like BC to keep the streak alive.
We're punting again...Who would have thought that we'd blow so badly to a terrible team that can't score a TD on offense? That our QB can't connect with a pass downfield? That we'd have to listen to Davies ramble on mindlessly through it all? This may be the single worst bowl game of the year, and maybe the century--even UConn will be more interesting than this...Put Flutie in. At least he has the cajones to complete a pass downfield.
Gunnell's injury is massive here, decisive for the game. They can stack Robinson, forcing Davis to throw quality balls rather than have the receiver make the play. And obviously on punt returns...
When did Jags replace Logan with Dana Bible? Davis has looked TERRIBLE ever since he started playing, and this game is no different. There's no reason why we should be losing this game. I hope he's not the starter next year.
Don't blame Anderson. That was a freak play where the ball barely grazed him. Even Ramella's penalty wasn't that big...he never grabbed on, his hand slid over.
One really bad break on the punt. Another really bad break on the penalty. No good breaks at all.
We didn't show up to play, and it cost us 6 points early. Other than that, we just aren't that good...certainly not good enough to absorb the loss of Gunnell.
WE CAN'T WIN FOOTBALL GAMES WITHOUT A REAL QUARTERBACK. DAVIS IS DONE. THIS IS A TOTAL EMBARRASSMENT...TO LOSE LIKE THIS, TO A TEAM THAT COULDN'T GET A FIRST DOWN IN THE FINAL QUARTER, AND THEY WIN ON A REFEREE'S BAD CALL. THIS WAS THE WORST BOWL GAME I HAVE EVER SEEN BC BE A PART OF...EVEN WORSE THAN THE COLORADO DEBACLE BECAUSE ATLEAST THEY KICKED OUR BUTTS. THIS TIME WE KICKED OUR OWN...AND LOU HOLTSZ IS JUST LOVIN' THIS. LATER, EAGLES.
In reality I felt we would lose this game - absolutely no pizzaz on our part.
Ultimately, we lost to a guy (kicker) wearing short pants - disgusting.
Now we'll hear ACC sucks - SEC reigns, etc. Home town calls at the end for sure, but we never should have been in that position.
That was probably the worst I've seen BC play in a game they could have won in a very long time.
I am thoroughly embarrassed. The coaches were awful. The team was unfocused and unprepared. When they went ahead, BC thought they had it won. I wish the streak came to an end in a more "manly" fashion.
Very disappointing - if Logan moves on, that's okay with me. Bring in a young hard charger.
No penalties on Vandy? Roughing the passer? Complete and absolute BS.
But, we didn't score enough points. Get used to this. Davis is just not that good of a QB and it sounds as if Jags, similar to TOB's insane man-love for Porter, is going to ride the Davis horse.
I hope Jags has some balls and rips into the reffing of this game. That was horrific officiating.
Well, I hope I can get excited for next season, but I think we will be lucky to get to 7 wins.
Strangely I am OK with losing this game. The streak is over and I think the talk of back to back 10 win seasons would have masked the fact that our team did not show up against UNC, Vtech in the ACC championship game, and for the first quarter against Vandy.
I like Jags, I like Logan, and I have grown to like Spaz. Its a fresh start next year and I hope that as we enter Jags Year 3 we forge a successful identity on both sides of the ball.
This hurts a lot. The way this season ended just really hurts. Making the trip to Tampa to cheer on an uninspired team with the 50 other people in the stadium. Then watching this uglyl, ugly JV effort, losing against the worst of the ACC, and looking bad doing it. I don't know if I'll be able to get up to BC football '09. Not much to be optimistic about.
Disappointingly I wasn't able to make it to Nashville for the game (its a sore subject between my parents and I). I've heard a lot of reports from my friends there though that the Vandy fans are, well, assholes. My one friend has had beer poured on her twice since being there by Vandy fans. Can anyone else confirm this, and if so, what claslessness.
As for the game, I just can't even begin to express my disappointment...first at not being able to go and second at losing. It doesn't seem that Davis is the future of this team, unless he starts to have some more confident throws. I could see him starting the 09 season and then getting pulled out...but then we also said that about Chris Crane. I don't think this game is even worth analyzing, just poor play and bad mistakes from our Eagles today.
I'm a '96 grad, which means I was there for the greatest football game ever played ('93 ND) and the biggest basketball upset of the '90s ('94 UNC).
Of course, David Green fumbled and an inferior Florida team beat us in the NCAAs to make the Final 4...but I still harken back to those days when I feel disappointed.
Very dissapointing loss. BUT, as some have pointed out we got bad calls against us, no calls on Vandy, and more importantly, no breaks, and several bad ones.
What I don't understand is why people are so negative on next year. Last year, without Raji our defense was just fine. Toal was injured for the second half of this season. We lose no one on offense that isn't replacable, and regardless of how the Tuggle/Davis battle shakes out we will be better off next year than we were this year at the QB position.
To not expect our offense to make up for any slight droppoff our defense MIGHT have next season is rediculous. To not expect 9 wins again from BC is rediculous. Maybe we won't go to ACCCG next year, but maybe we will.
9-5 sounds a lot, lot worse and is a lot lot worse than 9-3 but hey, 9 wins is still pretty good. Injuries have been a major problem this season.
If Chris Crane didn't get hurt we'd be in the Orange Bowl.
Look for Justin Tuggle next year, maybe.
Hopefully #94 will return for his senior season - he can't go out like this.
I think this team thought they could pull it off, and loafed for most of the game. They probably loafed in their preparation as well - which is the most disappointing to me.
If it's true about the Vanderbilt fans, it's no wonder BC doesn't travel to these games - it's a bunch of BS. Who wants to go to another cold climate - a bowl is supposed to be in a warm city.
And by the way, pity the Vanderbilt fan who ever poured beer on my head!!!!
I would hope they were better than West Virginia fans - the worst in America.
Wasn't able to watch the game, but followed it on the gamecast. Any reason why we didn't pound the ball with Harris throughout the game? His run average was superior to Haden's. One positive from this season is that we're set at RB with Harris for the next couple years.
Were the penalties on Vandy's last FG drive 'stupid' penalties? Seems like Ramella has been invovled in more than one back-breaking penalty this season.
Good luck to Raji - hopefully 1st round pick - and Brace in their NFL careers.
BC is losing Raji and Brace and Toal and Akins and most likely Herzlich. That is a massive drop-off in talent. We still don't have a field goal kicker or rush defensive end and the QB is just not that good (I feel in a couple years he will be fine but I don't see him making ACC Championship caliber improvement in one year).
The offense is not even close to being in the top 50 of offenses and even though everyone is returning, the ACC is full of young offensive players even better than the BC players.
BC just does not have enough playmakers to compete next year. 7 wins is about the best we can hope for. I am optimistic for 2010, but next year will be brutal. Don't say I didn't warn you.
That roughing the QB call cost BC the game. Ridiculous. Also, Davis will never be a good QB because his mechanics are awful. He winds up, and launches the ball in a shotput style much like Vince Young. No wonder why his throws always sail on him.
Worst caser scenario next year at QB is Davis starts. Davis next year will be much better than what we've seen from him this year. Plays will be designed around his strengths(whatever they might be) and he will be much more experienced.
As far as the D dropping off in talent level significantly I just don't buy it. Every year teams lose great players to graduation and manage to rebound. We lost a lot more last year in talent than we will this year. We lost TWO FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICKS plus Silva, to name a few. But regardless, like I said before, the offense will improve at the QB and running back positions enough in experience to make up for whatever dropoff on defense there might be.
I think Herzlich comes back. Honestly, do you really think he's a first rounder? Think of other LBs in front of him. He should return.
I don't disagree that BC should be better on offense, but I don't see the talent on defense to replace what BC is losing. Plus, the other schools in the ACC have as much if not more raw talent than BC. Florida State is going to be sick next year and watch out for Clemson. Further, don't look now but TOB has the young talent that can beat BC (We only won by 7 points this season). Notre Dame is on the rise and Va Tech will be scary with Tyrod Taylor. Mark my words, 7 wins is a good season for BC. I hope I am wrong but I am coming into 2009 with very low expectations. 9 wins? Not likely at all.
On Defense for 2009 - I haven't heard a lot about Max Holloway during his redshirt season, - but he's supposed to be pretty good.
We have some good O-linemen coming up - maybe Clairborne should be moved back to defensive tackle?
Will Albright be back okay? We need SPEED coming off the DE position.
We need some linebackers to step up. McCluskey is really a linebacker.
I'm too sick to think right now. Losing to Vanderbilt because we were more conservative than Dana Bible on his very worst day? Give me a break. If we're going to lose, let's lose like men!!!!
We have a lot of talent on offense next year. What we need is a game plan and some college plays for crying out loud.
Note to coaching staff - give the players a chance to win - and then let them play. You played not to lose today - awful. We're BC, not some football factory. Every now and then you need a little finesse - a little imagination. I saw very little if any of that tonight.
Herzlich will come back next season. All this talk about him leaving for the draft I think is more a product of a defeatist attitude than anything else. He will be back. And I think people are underestimating the raw talent that we have at offense...Haden, Harris, Momah and not to mention Rich Gunnell who I think has not been given nearly enough credit for his playmaking abilities. Go watch the miracle in Blacksburg video...the first TD that woldve won the game (minus a holding penalty) was caught by Gunnell. The catch against Clemson that sent us to the 2007 ACCCG, was caught by Gunnell. And it was Gunnell who ran it back against VTech in the regular season and scored our only touchdown in the 2008 ACCCG. It will take a lot, A LOT of work to make it to nine wins and a return to the ACCCG in 2009 but I dont think its out of the question. The Eagles will surprise many again in 2009.
Teams don't go to the ACCCG 3 years in a row. It just does not happen. Even Va Tech has not done that. I watch an insane amount of college football games. It's one of my passions, and I am telling you, BC does not have any more talent on offense than the other ACC top-tier teams. In fact, the QB play, the most important position in football (look at Matt Ryan with Atlanta), is just not ready for prime time. I think he is two years away from being an ACC championship caliber QB. We are going to struggle next year and those of you piping for 9 wins are living in a myopian existence. Jags and Co. are building to the 2010 season. Next year is a re-building year and I don't want all of you with these insane expectations calling for Jags' head mid-season.
I think people are a bit too hard on Davis. Vanderbilt is a good defensive team; they won games exactly like we did the whole year. The guy was making his third start, so you can't tell whether or not he's going to be horrible just yet. How did Crane do in his third start? I'm pretty sure people were calling for his head back then too...now people are saying we would've made the Orange Bowl with him. People need to be patient. And I don't get why we're expecting a bad year from this team. I don't see any reason why Davis won't be better next year than Crane was this year. Harris and Haden will be improved. We will still have Gunnell. Jarvis and Larmond look like they could be good for us next year. We're losing one offensive lineman. I don't get why people think next year is going to be so horrible. Not to mention Herzlich is probably coming back now, and we return virtually our entire secondary. The only key losses on D will be Raji and Brace. And for those of you touting Florida State and Clemson: those two start out the preseason ranked every year, only to disappoint and fall behind teams like BC. So I'd wait until one of those teams actually lives up to expectations this decade before declaring us worse than them. And if any of you watched the Rutgers game, NC State still has no pass defense and Russell Wilson is injury prone. Remember, this team gave up 454 yards to Chris Crane. One loss to Vandy doesn't decide whether or not we'll compete for an ACC title next year. Obviously, the ACC isn't as strong as a conference as it appeared, seeing as how it's fared in the bowl season.
Okay--I've had a full day away from the Game from Hell, a few Cali level parties at my house and a chance to watch a few more bowl games since our pitiful effort in the Music w/o Rythm Bowl... I hate to be right, okay...but I saw this coming because we did some dumb stuff that got us here.
First--we should never have committed to a bowl vs. a 6-6 team in any conference. THAT ALONE MAKES US LOOK LIKE WE SUCK. Second, our coaches should donate their salaries to the starving homeless in Boston for all the bad prep our kids had vs. friggin' Vandy. They don't deserve to be paid for such a job badly done. Let's take the gloves off here. We beat a weak ND team in a shutout that would have slaughtered Vandy. Great Vandy defense? Great D, my butt--Vandy sucked and we basically beat ourselves in this game and, ONCE AGAIN, in front of the whole world. The VT Champ game was a rematch that our people didn't have a plan for...ok--burn me once. But this? No clue on how to handle Vandy? No game plan? The rookie QB still shakin' in his cleats and flaring passes every which way? Soooo Public was this defeat, and so massively demeaning. Burn us twice, shame on us all. And for What?
I would rather we had pulled an ND and not played in such a suckola bowl at all than lose like this in front of the nation and critics who hate us, and for very little money and no prestige even if we had won. That's the KEY, here. Our guys had nothing to win in this. Beating Vandy has ZERO PRESTIGE--anytime anywhere. We all knew this. Our admin, (Gene & the Jebs) should have just shined this no win deal and walked. If we can't get respect for being in the 'ship 2 straight, then screw it, right? "But no..."(as Belushi would have said.)
Instead, we do the bush thing-- and our kids aren't so dumb that they don't know that this game is a "come way down gig" for nothing. Think About It, My Eagle Bros & Sistahs. For What?
We're victims of our own decades long inferiority complex. Sometimes you just got to walk away--and we did'nt. We wanted that nothing streak--and the kids just had nothing left in the tank--after tanking to VT in the 'ship we should have seen this coming. There was nothing in this game to fight for...whatever Jags says, there was no fight in this team yesterday. It was residue of promise, and talent, maybe...but fight, no.
We're BC, damn it. It's time to wake up and stop acting like some loser WAC team with a blue field or a C-USA po'boy crowd that needs the BS Bowl to feel good about ourselves. Our kids played to the level of the competition this time...and sucked doing it, too. We've won every funky bowl game there is--and we're still shopping at Walmart with Ritz-Carlton dreams... As much as I hate a lot of what USC stands for, I get what they're doing. They would never play in the Music City Bowl against a 6-6 Vandy team with no cred. When they lost to Fresno State in some bean bowl years ago it destroyed the coach, whom they instantly fired with enthusiasm-- --and he never recovered.(I think Coach Smith died this year, in fact. Another coach who meant well, but didn't win the big ones...or the little one, either.)
Is this dilemma systemic? A problem that we can't overcome? No--but it sucks that we accepted the whole thing like it's who we are. Yes, the team was broken before it happened. Crane was on the mend and learning--Man, he went out with a 16 yard gain and walked off hurt like it was no big deal...but that was the end pretty much. Dominique did a great job for starters, but the young dude has issues. He's young, yes--but he's also somewhat afraid back there and can't throw a D-1 pass with any zip. He needs a lot of work. And, we're spoiled, n'est-ce pas? We're poast-Ryan and there's no turning back now. Our coaches had nothing for Dominique in the end. Even they did not know that Harris, not Haden, is the man. And they neglected Purvis as a go to guy for weeks. Wow. How dumb was that? No, it was not to be...so why play in a loser bowl with nothing to win and all to lose? We should have walked away with class. Alas, we did not...and now we are left with this. Vandy 16, BC 12. For what? Music that nobody wants to hear.
Somebody explain that one to me, 'cause, as Tom Petty would say, "I need to know." For what?
we'll probably just agree to disagree, but I think its possible to see us in the ACCCG again next year. Saying VT hasn't even done it doesn't make any difference and has no bearing on what we can do. I mean, we shouldn't have even made the ACCCG this year and we did. Will I be surprised if we don't make it next year? Not even a little bit. Will I be surprised if we do make it there again next year? Also no. I truly think that we have more talent than we all think returning next year. Certainly the loss of Brace and Raji will be huge, HUGE, but we've got some playmakers on both sides of the ball who I think will come out next year fired up, especially because of what they did accomplish this year, making it to the title game, and because of what they failed to accomplish, continuing the streak. Once again, look for the Eagles to be flying (no pun intended) below the radar, as we always do, and to be a big surprise in the ACC.
ReplyDeleteThat's the way, FireStorm - fire us up!
ReplyDeleteLet's get down to business, team. Jump on these guys early!
Living down here in deepest Alabama, I would so love to see us beat an SEC team. Go Eagles!
ReplyDeleteOne of these days, we'll get to a BCS Bowl. Until then, let's keep our heads up and win this one convincingly for our 14th overall Bowl victory, and 9th year in a row!!!! Let's say it again - 9th season in a row!!!!!
ReplyDeletePipsqueek Lou Holtz aside - he says that BC "always falls to a lesser bowl, against a lesser opponent - hence that's why they always win" --- 8 straight victories is pretty impressive against Arizona State, 16th ranked Georgia(pro-Georgia crowd of 46,125 left disappointed), Toledo (partisan crowd in Detroit), Colorado State, North Carolina (65,000+ UNC fans in Charlotte), Boise State (snapped their 31 game home winning streak - can you imagine a bowl against a team in their home stadium?), Navy (amid a head coaching defection) and Big Ten Michigan State - and hopefully today against Vanderbilt. Let's go undefeated for the decade in Bowl games and see how many teams can claim that distinction!!!
Music City Bowl

Vanderbilt 7
big jack, im an idea man, i love the enthusiasm. in D we trust, lets set the tempo, control the clock, and keep their running yards in the red.
ReplyDeleteE! A! G! L! E! S!
EAGLES!
EAGLES!!
EAGLES!!!
Davis with long sleeves - oh boy!
ReplyDeletewell davis doesnt look like he is going to be able to hit anybody today, awful opening.....we should be very run heavy....crap and now they have 2 passes and are at our 25
ReplyDeleteI would have hoped we would establish the run as Vandy is very tough against the pass. Throwing on both 2nd and 3rd down was not a good offensive strategy on that 1st drive.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Vandy switch QB's mid-drive? Very strange.
ReplyDeleteherzlich looks like magua from last of the mohicans.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing we held them to 3 there as I doubt a Davis-led offense is going to score more than 14 points today. Hopefully, we can get a defensive score to get us around 20 points.
ReplyDeleteFreshmen - the only good thing about them is they will soon be sophomores :)
ReplyDeleteWhat do we think so far? It's time to get settled on D and get down to business.
ReplyDeleteHow bad is this wind?
We're not ready for this game.
ReplyDeleteno we arent. hold them to 3. run the ball with montel and josh and get our d a rest
ReplyDeleteDefenses typically start out behind the 8-ball in bowl games and Vandy does have the wind. We are extremely lucky to only be down by 6 at this point.
ReplyDeleteLogan needs to just pound the ball even if we do not get first downs. At this point, we need to make this a physical game and just try to wear them down.
Our QB has not changed--deer in the headlights body language...and Vandy wants to play us VT style.

ReplyDeleteHarris isn't looking too hot on the returns
ReplyDeleteThat was a great punt by Quigly....wait a minute, did I just talk about a punt? You know it is a rough start when a great punt is your highlight.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pathetic performance so far. Davis can't pass, Harris can't catch, Logan won't run the ball, and Spaz will not blitz. All recipes for disaster.
ReplyDeleteDavies has a great point. Montel Harris has the BC freshman rushing record and he is sitting on the sidelines. Then again, he is probably in the doghouse for dropping two passes thrown right to him. But Harris' strength is running the ball so please feed him the rock!
ReplyDeleteIf we stay pathetic with the wind, we're in deep kimchi.
ReplyDeleteThe whole team and the coaches all look out of rhythm
And Big Jack, the only reason why BC has such a long bowl winning streak is because they lose the big games and then get stuck playing pitiful teams in crappy bowls. Holtz was actually spot on for once in his life.
ReplyDeleteDavies, "Nice turnout by Vanderbilt fans!"
ReplyDeleteBig woop, they had to drive 5 flipping miles. It's darn near a home game.
each time we punt, i have a heart attack. they are really close every time to getting a hand on the ball
ReplyDeleteWell--we're hittin' these guys hard on D--but giving the ball back on automatic isn't gettin' it. That baby QB of theirs has zero to lose in this game--it's time for Herzy & co. to score for us...again. Is this a scary pattern or is it just me?
ReplyDeleteMmason,
ReplyDeleteI know it's a little early in Cali but it is New Year's Eve so blend up some rally margaritas.
Brace looks like he put on 30-40 pounds since the end of the season.
ReplyDeleteWe can't run. They can't run. Who does this favor?
ReplyDeleteHint: not the team with Dominique Davis on it.
Dominque Davis is the second coming of Randall Cunningham
ReplyDeleteLooked like Davis had a lot of speed on that scramble. Where's that been in the past? Thats Tyrod speed.
ReplyDeleteHad a receiver wide open in the seam, not a great decision.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Tennant?
ReplyDeleteDavies' comments (Domer-esque and Holtzian as they are) are beginning to make me nuts. Can't do the margaritas until we get a lead--and that means we need a turnover in margaritaville...Is Tennant ok?
ReplyDeleteWell the defense looks pretty good now. Too bad Davis and the offense still look wretched.
ReplyDeleteWish we has Akins in the ACCCG.
ReplyDeleteOK - let's go.
Way to run the ball up the middle on every first down play. Nice creativity.
ReplyDeleteWe're gonna score on this drive. I can feel it.
ReplyDeleteI kind of wish Doc Walker was commentating. My favorite line of his this year was "for Ron Brace, it's all about decapitation"
ReplyDeleteour front 7 should just fight theirs, winner gets the trophy
I agree with the announcers. Pick on #17. The guy cannot even walK.
ReplyDeleteBoy, Purvis has not seen the ball this much all season.
Could we please throw it at the injured guy?
ReplyDeleteThank God Purvis *IS* getting the ball thrown to him. He's the only guy out there consistently catching the ball today.
ReplyDeleteHe hasn't been asked to catch many passes all year, and opposing defenses may have forgotten he CAN. I say we ride that train all the way to victory.
Great catch Harris! Go Eagles!!
Harris found some stickum!
ReplyDeleteMargarita time!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the Logan game plan? Thank God for Purvis and Harris...but we're lookin' random. Maybe it's time for my Champs Sports Bowl T-Shirt voodoo move 'cuz we need some luck! And yes...we score! At long last. Go Eagles! (It's weird to hear Davies give DD the Kid some love...I'm cutting some limes.) I feel an Eagle defensive TD comin'...
ReplyDeleteOur O-line is very young now without Tennant.
ReplyDeleteWho gets the wind in the 4th quarter?
ReplyDeletewhat happened right before halftime?? i am stuck at work and watching on the ESPN computer feed. It had BC calling time after third down with 37 seconds left then it just said halftime.
ReplyDeleteDexter,
ReplyDeleteDavis hung in the pocket and then rolled to his right, hitting Montel Harris in the endzone on the far right side.
I think we get the wind.
ReplyDeleteThey have the wind in the 4th quarter - so we had better score this period.
ReplyDeleteThere's Vandy's one trick play...man, these teams that thrive on broken plays--Raji is feelin' it now!
ReplyDeleteDefensive tackles look slow and fat - but Raji can still move.
ReplyDeletestop them here on 3rd and long. dial it up spaz.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Big Jack--we'll be into that wind in 4th qtr. Looks like we'll need atleast 3 TDs more to make this happen--we got to move it move it. Go Eagles!
ReplyDeleteAnderson's an idiot. If you know it hits you WHY THROW YOUR HANDS UP! Tell your team to grab it! Go after it! Unreal.
ReplyDeleteI'm sick and tired of these mental mistakes on special teams. That was absolutely inexcusable. The returner needs to yell "fire" when punts are gong near other players. We are in a deep whole now as it will be nearly impossible to score against the wind.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't we get that ball?
ReplyDeleteOk - all kidding aside - it's now time to get tough and roll over these guys.
We're capable of doing this. It's time for nice guy Coach Jags (who I like) to start jumping around and lighting some fires under people. We have adversity - let's overcome by running right through that wall.
Go after the corner, please
ReplyDeleteTheir starting CB is limping! Throw at him! Does no one else see this?
ReplyDeleteBoy, now the seniors are letting BC down. Anderson makes a game changing mistake and then Purvis false starts at a critical moment.
ReplyDeleteI mean go after the cornerback DOWNFIELD.
ReplyDeleteat least we have one pass play...
ReplyDeleteroll right...throw to the flat...
special teams players...really smart...throw your hands up and pretend that 50,000 people didn't see the football hit you. don't bother telling the return man.
at least we have a high graduation rate.
did you hear holtz say that at halftime and then get made fun of? really nice, espn.
Anderson is a freaking moron. He knew the ball hit him yet he said nothing to the actual returner to pick up the damn ball nor did he make any attempt to recover the ball himself. Moron. The way the BC offense has been sucking it up all day, that could be the game winning play.
ReplyDeleteGunnell is out for the game. Tennant has been cleared to come back in.
ReplyDeleteWe need a turnover right now.
ReplyDeleteThis game has a very strange feel to it - and we're very uninspired in this game.
ReplyDeleteI'd hate to see this streak end because we were apathetic.
Time is getgting short already.
Well that was a terrible play for the Vandy player. Catching that cost them about 15 yards
ReplyDeleteLogan is calling two plays this game: 1. Run up the middle 2. Screen Pass to the Right.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why he is being so conservative?
I'm going to shut up for awhile at least.
ReplyDeleteSure wish Chris Crane didn't get hurt.
We deserve to lose this game - that call was pathetic.
Why the hell is Haden running on 4th and 1 instead of Harris?
ReplyDeleteCan someone explain why Harris, the leading freshman rusher in BC history, is on the sidelines? You have to go with your best players in bowl games. C'mon!
ReplyDeleteLogan is calling a lame game. Harris eats these guys up and we pop with Haden?
ReplyDeleteThat's it - it shows the mind set of these coaches today - out to lunch.
ReplyDeleteWorse than anything Dana Bible ever did.
ReplyDeleteMomah!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteKeep going after #17. This isn't rocket science.
I am also tempted to turn this off. It's just too painful to watch. Even if they win at this point, this team is now just un-fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteOf course, now we just got back-to-back 1st downs....
Does no one on the coaching staff realize that this guy can't run? He literally can't put any pressure on his ankle.
ReplyDeleteRyan, there is not much you can do when the opponent is punting from the 50.
ReplyDeleteWith this offense, it's a game of field position. Vandy knows that. They haven't done anything on offense with the exception of that long pass on the second drive. They don't need to.
ReplyDeleteThis team's offense is not fun to watch, for sure.
ReplyDeleteA pass by Davis!!
ReplyDeleteAnd a CATCH by Harris!!
Guys, if you are turning the TV off now, you might as well not even watch next season. We will lose Raji, Brace and probably Herzlich which will be a huge drop off in talent. Almost everyone returns on offense, but this offense is just not that good. We might be lucky to win 6 games next year.
ReplyDeleteAfter a 6 yard run by Harris, let's pass the ball on 3rd and 3. That could have been a TD for the other side. What an idiot.
ReplyDeleterun the baaaaaaaallllll
ReplyDeleteLogan is out-thinking himself in this one. He should't be running on 2nd and throwing on 3rd and short.
ReplyDeleteWhy are we talking about next year? We still have a chance to win a close one.
It's time for our #1 ranked D to get the ball back and score. C'mon Herzy and Raji and the D gang--we need some real football to happen right now! Go Eagles! Enough of this BS!
ReplyDeleteWho is the punt returner? Yikes.
ReplyDeleteCan nobody field a damn punt? More boneheaded play from the special teams.
ReplyDeleteCT,
ReplyDeleteI was making the point that no one should be turning of the TV when we are in a close game.
The defense has played extremely well from mid-1st quarter on. You cannot criticize their performance today. The offense, on the other hand, has been anemic. You cannot win college football games by scoring only 7 points. Vandy has a very good defense, but BC should be able to put up at least 14 points on these guys.
This is awful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reality check eagleboston.
Now I feel like I'm watcing a synopsis of 2009 a year ahead of time.
Bravesbill,
ReplyDeleteRemember, Gunnell is hurt. He would normally be back fielding punts.
Worst..Playcalling..Ever
ReplyDeleteI was just making a point that special teams has been killing BC whether it be their inability to field kickoffs or punts or the idiotic fumble Vandy scored on. This unit is responsible for the future loss.
ReplyDeleteDavis is an average QB, that's all. It may be b/c he's young, or it may be b/c he's an average QB.
ReplyDeleteTruth be told, I'm unimpressed with Logan today. Davis isn't fun to watch, but Logan hasn't exactly been stellar today, either.
We desperately need a turnover to help with field position.
I know it is looking very bleak, but I have to think we are going to score. This is a shit-ass bowl that no one is watching, so it does not really matter, but I would like BC to keep the streak alive.
ReplyDelete90% of ESPN viewers predicted a BC win. How about a 7 minute drive to win this thing?
ReplyDeleteWe're punting again...Who would have thought that we'd blow so badly to a terrible team that can't score a TD on offense? That our QB can't connect with a pass downfield? That we'd have to listen to Davies ramble on mindlessly through it all? This may be the single worst bowl game of the year, and maybe the century--even UConn will be more interesting than this...Put Flutie in. At least he has the cajones to complete a pass downfield.
ReplyDeleteGunnell's injury is massive here, decisive for the game. They can stack Robinson, forcing Davis to throw quality balls rather than have the receiver make the play. And obviously on punt returns...
ReplyDeleteWhen did Jags replace Logan with Dana Bible? Davis has looked TERRIBLE ever since he started playing, and this game is no different. There's no reason why we should be losing this game. I hope he's not the starter next year.
ReplyDeleteMMason--that Sun Bowl game was pretty brutal. 3-0? Are you kidding?
ReplyDeleteWell, that was not a 7-minute drive, but I'll take it!
ReplyDeleteYESSSSS!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm talking about!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Lord, that TD was quite fitting haha. After all the ripping of Larmonde, esp. by me.
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteLet's riff off Vandy, and alternate QBs next year. Just play Davis in the 4th quarter.
ReplyDeleteYet another STUPID penalty on Ramella....all year...
ReplyDeleteSurprise, Ramella with another stupid penalty.
ReplyDeleteBS, that absolutely was not roughing the passer!!!
ReplyDeleteAre you fucking kidding? What a horseshit call. Davie is a freaking dumbass.
ReplyDeleteC'mon defense! A field goal wins this for Vandy
ReplyDelete15 yards for playing football.
ReplyDeleteThat's a horrible call.
ReplyDeleteIs this tackle football?
No wonder Davie was fired.
This might be karma for the Navy bowl game.
15 yards for playing football.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this idiot talking about? You can see the crown of his helmet on the replay, which means he didn't hit the QB with it, dumbass.
Man, if they win of that wussy penalty, I am going to chuck a shoe at my TV Iraqi-style.
ReplyDeleteunbelievable. oh no, he used his helmet, just like you're taught to! thats a penalty!
ReplyDeleteI seriously cannot believe this. 30 free yards handed out. Absolute bullshit
ReplyDeleteWhy can't we get a kicker like that?
ReplyDeletePut your hand up if you're comfy having your bowl streak resting on the foot of Sid Vicious.
ReplyDeleteDavis blows, and did you know that BC has three timeouts?
ReplyDeleteBoth receivers on the right side were open. Ugh, this is terrible
ReplyDeleteEven if you stop them, you'll have to go the length of the field with no timeouts. And with Davis.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable.
Pass. Pass. Pass.
ReplyDeleteThat's known as a coach panicking.
Nice to see Vandy gets gifted 30 yards. That was more yards than they actually earned on the whole drive otherwise.
ReplyDeleteHere comes their trick play...or a BS penalty...
ReplyDeleteThat was horrible defending on that run.
ReplyDeleteDoes Sid Vicious have one miracle lef?
ReplyDeleteVandy was the luckiest team alive and let's just say that Davis sucks. I hope he never sees the field again.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gifted game. No penalties on Vandy? Really? They didn't earn any of this game.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anderson and Ramella for causing BC to lose the only bowl game of this millennium.
ReplyDeleteAt least TOB never lost a bowl game to crappy teams. And watch out for TOB next year. I think he finally beats BC.
More panicked play calling. I don't blame Davis for the last 5 mins at all.
ReplyDeleteIs it safe to say that QB needs to be a big priority in recruiting this offseason?
ReplyDeleteYou knew that was coming.
ReplyDeleteThose two penalties...ugh...
That punt...ugh...
Losing the bowl streak to a 6-6 SEC team...God isn't Catholic. At least, for those of us who live in the South.
What a waste of a good defensive effort.
ReplyDeleteDon't blame Anderson. That was a freak play where the ball barely grazed him. Even Ramella's penalty wasn't that big...he never grabbed on, his hand slid over.
ReplyDeleteOne really bad break on the punt.
ReplyDeleteWhat do we hang our hats on now that the bowl streak is over?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteGraduation rates!
ReplyDeleteIn reality I felt we would lose this game - absolutely no pizzaz on our part.
ReplyDeleteUltimately, we lost to a guy (kicker) wearing short pants - disgusting.
ReplyDeleteBut, we didn't score enough points.
ReplyDeleteI like Jags, I like Logan, and I have grown to like Spaz. Its a fresh start next year and I hope that as we enter Jags Year 3 we forge a successful identity on both sides of the ball.
This hurts a lot.
ReplyDeleteThe way this season ended just really hurts.
NG21,
ReplyDeleteWrite it down now. Next year is going to be brutal. 2010 has the makings of a great season. But there is nothing to look forward to next season.
Check that -- losing to the worst of the SEC (not ACC)
ReplyDeleteLosing to Va. Tech with Davis didn't bother me all that much.
ReplyDeleteLosing to Vandy with Davis pisses me off.
Logan stunk. We didn't run early enough and we didn't attack the gimp on the corner soon enough.
We didn't get any breaks...okay...but the defense played well enough (again) to win this game. The offense's ineptitude is disconcerting.
We had a month to get ready!
Lose in a BCS game to break the streak...not a 6-6 Vandy team playing three QBs.
As an Atlanta guy, born and raised...Go Falcons! Maybe that'll be the one BC highlight of the week.
CT,
ReplyDeleteAmen. Go Falcons! Matt Ryan is all we have to hang our hats on for awhile.
Maybe The Boss will don a BC hat during the Super Bowl halftime.
ReplyDeleteAs for the game, I just can't even begin to express my disappointment...first at not being able to go and second at losing.
First Notre Lame breaks their losing streak, and now OUR winning streak is over?? What in the world is going on?
ReplyDeleteGo Falcons I guess.
I just wish we didn't have to lose to the loudmouth, arrogant, classless, self-aggrandizing SEC.
At least we graduate our football team.
ReplyDeleteOh wait, you mean Vandy does, too?
I'm a '96 grad, which means I was there for the greatest football game ever played ('93 ND) and the biggest basketball upset of the '90s ('94 UNC).
Of course, David Green fumbled and an inferior Florida team beat us in the NCAAs to make the Final 4...but I still harken back to those days when I feel disappointed.
I feel disappointed.
A good sailing team is great and all..but...
Go hockey??
Very dissapointing loss. BUT, as some have pointed out we got bad calls against us, no calls on Vandy, and more importantly, no breaks, and several bad ones.
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't understand is why people are so negative on next year.
ReplyDeleteLook for Justin Tuggle next year, maybe.
ReplyDeleteWere the penalties on Vandy's last FG drive 'stupid' penalties? Seems like Ramella has been invovled in more than one back-breaking penalty this season.
Good luck to Raji - hopefully 1st round pick - and Brace in their NFL careers.
I'm in denial, and not that river in Egypt.
ReplyDeleteHerzy did NOT rough the passer, whichever one it was.
Jeff,
ReplyDeleteBC is losing Raji and Brace and Toal and Akins and most likely Herzlich.
ReplyDeleteWorst caser scenario next year at QB is Davis starts. Davis next year will be much better than what we've seen from him this year. Plays will be designed around his strengths(whatever they might be) and he will be much more experienced.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the D dropping off in talent level significantly I just don't buy it.
Jeff,
ReplyDeleteI don't disagree that BC should be better on offense, but I don't see the talent on defense to replace what BC is losing.
ReplyDeleteWe have some good O-linemen coming up - maybe Clairborne should be moved back to defensive tackle?
Huge disappointment.
We lost to a team whose kicker was wearing short pants. SHORT PANTS!
ReplyDeleteI know that football pants are creeping up, while basketball pants are down to lower shin length - but this guy had on short pants. Give me a break.
Am I dreaming? How did this happen, Coach Logan? Where is all this genius for pulling out exciting plays? WHERE WAS IT TODAY? ANSWER MY QUESTION!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJohn,
ReplyDeleteTeams don't go to the ACCCG 3 years in a row.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOkay--I've had a full day away from the Game from Hell, a few Cali level parties at my house and a chance to watch a few more bowl games since our pitiful effort in the Music w/o Rythm Bowl...
ReplyDeleteI hate to be right, okay...but I saw this coming because we did some dumb stuff that got us here.
Somebody explain that one to me, 'cause, as Tom Petty would say,
"I need to know."
For what?
eagleboston,
ReplyDeletewe'll probably just agree to disagree, but I think its possible to see us in the ACCCG again next year.
