I really hope this is a special night. We've got a great group of seniors playing their final game and we have a chance to end a roller coaster season with a statement win. I think we will play very well, get some national attention and head into next year with a lot of optimism.

The problem is with the comment on the seniors. They are great players and people such as Flutie, McMichael, and Boek. However, they were benched in the name of progress. I feel that this is lousy. They were better than some on the field but Spaziani wanted to "play for experience" which may or may not have happened. If Spaziani could have gotten away with it, he would have "drowned the puppies on Christmas Eve". Committments to BC are a two-way street. When usefulness is done, will they be tossed on the "trash heap". This is what supposedly makes BC different.
ReplyDeleteUmm, they still were allowed to get a BC education - isn't THAT what makes BC different?
ReplyDeleteJBQ, I can't think a single person in the two-deep that Flutie, McMIchael, or Boek out performed on the field.
ReplyDeleteThere just nice guys, who battled the injury bug, and with the exception of McMichael, had very limited athletic ability. Their career stats show career back-up. And it's not like the BC threw in the towel to get the young guys PT. RAther, they turned to the young guys, who fueled the 5 game win streak and got us into the bowl. There may be a sad story here, but it has nothing to do with BC or Spaz mistreating them. These guys would have been run out of most factory programs to create room for others ... we didn't.
Geez JBQ, this isn't the Cambridge Little League where everyone gets a trophy for being on the team.
ReplyDeleteBC's only hope tonight is to put together long, sustained drives utilizing the running game to keep the potent Nevada offensive attack off the field. I'm very concerned that, even in the 5-game winning streak, the BC offense failed to put up many points on the board. I think many BC fans are underestimating how powerful this Wolfpack offensive attack is and even though our defense is very good and great against the run, they are still going to give up a couple touchdowns. Thus, the BC offense needs to do something they have not done all season - generate some points.
ReplyDeleteI really believe BC needs to somehow score at least 24 points to have any chance at victory tonight. It's a long-shot, but let's hope these young Eagles can pull off the first of what we hope will be many miracles in the next few years.
JBQ keeps posting this nonsense. He enjoys using "quotation marks", particularly when employing the phrase about drowning the "puppies". Scott has the right take - I think McMichael could have been a valuable contributor, it's a shame he was injured so often.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with using quotes for phrases?
ReplyDeleteNothing at all, the are "par for the course".
ReplyDeleteIs Montel playing tonight?
ReplyDeleteBoston Herald claimed 3 days ago that Montel was in the starting lineup, I have not heard otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThe two deep roster in the program guide says Montel is starting. Albright is backing up.
ReplyDeletePlayers and fans alike deserve a nice win tonight. Go Eagles. Play your best game.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure Montel will be "giving it his all tonight" in a pretty "hostile environment". Hopefully the O-line "opens up some holes" for him and he ploughs home to "pay dirt"
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna go start "drinking heavily" now.
GO EAGLES!!
"nervous".
ReplyDeleteRamsey!!
ReplyDeleteGood start..forcing punt
ReplyDeletewhy is Claiborne not starting
ReplyDeleteNo montel?
ReplyDeleteBig Time!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! The defense came to play in this first quarter! They are fired up. And Herzy was the one forcing the fumble!
ReplyDeleteBigger Time!!!
ReplyDeleteANDRE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is the formula: DEFENSE AND RUNNING THE BALL!
Bang bang goes BC pistol goes off
ReplyDeleteMe likey Andre!!!!
ReplyDeleteAndre turned on the jets. Great to see him be able to take it all the way!
ReplyDeleteThat was a seriously explosive cut to the outside from Andre.
ReplyDeleteDefense is getting the most pressure on the QB than they have all season. The only drawback about the quick TD is that our D has been on the field the entire game so far.
ReplyDeleteNice to see "Boston College" written in the endzone in a normal typeface and not the cheesedick italic crap that our athletic department insists on using.
ReplyDeleteHerzy is all over the field so far.
ReplyDeleteHoly Mother of Blown Coverage.
ReplyDeleteDamn, they moved the ball way too easily on that TD drive.
ReplyDeleteKapernick is going to shred this zone coverage to shreds. Play man coverage and have the safeties provide help. Nevada's WRs aren't going to "out-athlete" the BC secondary.
ReplyDeleteWho was Domenick covering there? It looked like he had the deep third/quarter there and you saw his #26 streak across the screen, in front of the receiver, eyes on the QB, no mind paid to the wide-open tight end just yards from the end zone.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine that Okoroha was covering the entire deep half. That's not the Spaz/McGovern system. The guys in the deep zones cannot bite on the threat of the scramble because, obviously, Kaepernick is too good of a passer.
"They haven't covered a pass yet, Kap."
ReplyDeleteOh boy, we"re in deep trouble.
They haven't covered a pass yet, Kap
ReplyDeleteRettig has happy feet... he needs to set and throw.
ReplyDeleteGeez the passing game looks absolutely brutal. And the defense gets right back on the field...
ReplyDeleteWell then again maybe not
ReplyDeleteThe O-line is just getting blown up in pass protection. I hate to say it, but Tranquil needs to play it a little closer to the vest, run the ball and slow down that pass rush.
ReplyDeleteOh crap. That was really really piss poor punt coverage.
At least our defense gets more rest.
ReplyDeleteThat one's on Momah. He had the outside lane and just got blown up. He didn't attack the blocker at all and got thrown out of his lane. Can't lost outside contain on punt coverage.
ReplyDelete4 drives so far for the offense.
ReplyDelete-1 awesome play
-9 crappy plays
That is what I call a poor ratio.
Tranq cannot run the damn ball up the middle the first two downs and put BC in a third and long. And if they are in third and long, how about calling a pass play that goes for more than 3 yards.
ReplyDelete"I think they need to throw the ball on first down."
ReplyDeleteAh, Gilmore, have you seen any tape this year? Tranqui don't do that.
If Nevada puts the ball in the end zone this drive, BC can pretty much kiss this game goodbye.
ReplyDeleteCritical stop there. Now let's get some offense going!
ReplyDeleteI'm really liking Swigert on returns
ReplyDeleteD doesn't look bad at all, though giving up that return looms large.
ReplyDeleteGood stuff on EDSBS Bill, btw.
Has montel had any time yet?
ReplyDeleteRun, run, pass. Run, run, pass. Can this be any more predictable?
ReplyDeleteLucky penalty there.
ReplyDeleteRettig threw a good ball despite the pressure and hit
ReplyDeleteThis offense is pathetic.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised Montel is not playing that injury is not a quick turn around
ReplyDeleteHang in there guys.
ReplyDeleteThat geico Abe Lincoln commercial is great
ReplyDeleteNice no Pass Interference call. These refs have blown a couple calls.
ReplyDeleteTO QUOTE MYSELF:"It's all about the coaching. Period."
ReplyDeleteEvery one of us could predict every play Gary Tranq will call...and so can Nevada.
Agree, Galvin. After the TD run by Andre, that's the highlight of the game so far...
ReplyDeleteNice tackle.
ReplyDeleteWay too many stupid mistakes. BC had over 40 days to prepare and this is the crap we get? Thanks Spaz.
ReplyDeleteAside from the three personal fouls and the kick-catch interference, the refs are calling a really loose game so far. They missed an obvious hold on the screen pass right there. The BC O-line needs to take advantage.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most undisciplined BC teams that I can recall. Please fire Spaz.
ReplyDeleteHerzy with a horrible missed tackle. I think the D is already getting worn down.
ReplyDeleteWho is Colon Kaepernick?
ReplyDeleteWe need to force another turnover
ReplyDeleteTerrible tackling. Reminds me of TOB teams.
ReplyDeleteI can't put up with this crap for another year. An episode of Desperate Housewives would be a hell of a lot more exciting than this. And I don't mean the scripted show on ABC either.
ReplyDeleteEven though he got shed a bit, kuechly saw that reverse happen. He's a gamer
ReplyDeleteHeld them to 3...need to get something going here
ReplyDeleteI really can't complain about the defense so far. They've held a very explosive offense to ten points. No shame in that. The offense is absolutely pathetic and Tranquil needs to have his play-calling privileges revoked right now. Yes, in the middle of the game. Let Spaz call plays. Wouldn't be any worse than it is now. Six (?) drives so far and, what, two or three first downs, one of those a penalty. Absolutely horrendous. Besides the TD, nothing has gone right with the offense.
ReplyDeleteGod, I'm going to smack Bob Davie if I have to hear him make one more quip about our "lack of team speed".
ReplyDeleteOur offense pisses me off. We are not going to win this game if we end the half with just 7 points.
ReplyDeleteOur D has allowed just 10 points despite being on the field the entire game. Oh well, I remember in the 90's when the offense carried the team and our defense stank.
Another dropped pass. Come on.
ReplyDeleteJesus, another drop? You got to help the QB out guys.
ReplyDeleteGood throws, horrible hands on our wideouts.
ReplyDeleteBob Davie is right, BC doesn't have any team speed. BC is built like a 1950s Big 10 teams. And BC's receivers can't catch the damed ball either.
ReplyDeleteCATCH THE BALL
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how bad our receivers are playing. It is sickening how many passes they have dropped. Rettig actually making some nice passes.
ReplyDeleteI want to kick a hole in my TV. No way Nevada has more talent than us.
ReplyDeleteAnd that was a fumble. Game over.
How about throwing to pantale?
ReplyDeleteReverse jinx. I am so miserable right now.
ReplyDeleteAgain, catch the ball....
ReplyDeleteAnother short pass on third and long. And BC just received the kiss of death for next year being called the sleeper team in the ACC.
ReplyDeletePrescient Galvin, prescient.
ReplyDeleteThere are no words for the utter horror that is this offense. Just unbelievable. It's starting to feel the VTech and Clemson games last year.
ReplyDeleteHaha should have added for a TD!
ReplyDeleteBob Davie also said that the lack of team speed is a good thing.....on a reverse
ReplyDeleteImpressed by Rettig, good arm and solid intuition in the pocket. Our WR/TE are doing nothing to help him out.
ReplyDeleteHow much longer do we give Spaz? I guarantee we win 3 less games than we should next year because of Spaz. He is just not a good coach. Fire Spaz and DeFilipo. Gross.
ReplyDeleteIts going to be hard to move the ball with 3 drops from our receivers already (2 on Swigert)
ReplyDeleteYeah, as crappy as the offense looks, if you look at Rettig's passes, they have been pretty solid. Zipped some in there, nice touch on others. Of course, when your receivers can't hold on to a single pass, it doesn't matter how good you can throw it.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else think Kyle Singler looks like an Indiana Jones nazi villain?
ReplyDeleteThis is the largest bowl game crowd BC has seen in a long, long time.
ReplyDeleteI just kicked a hole in my TV and Andre actually ran through it for a first down. Bob Davies now sees me as an innovator in college football. But I'd rather work for ESPN because all I need to do is say the same thing ten times an hour, and put my head some place where the sun don't shine...and make good money doin' it.
ReplyDeleteBeats coachin' at ND.
And I had such high hopes before this game started. We stink.
ReplyDeleteHey, Bob? It's not a talent problem. This is one of the most poorly coached football teams in the country. Boston College has one of the very worst coaching staffs in all of college football.
ReplyDeleteYawn, tell me something we don't know...speed etc...
ReplyDeleteKaepernick is still picking this zone coverage apart. Make a damned adjustment Spaz! Stop trying to do your best impression of Al Skinner!
ReplyDeleteIf Kapearnik was a decent passer, BC would be getting killed.
ReplyDeleteSpazzing doesn't adjust. He only does morose sideline pacing
ReplyDeleteI think we should just punt it on first down from this field position.
ReplyDeleteNevada even has better University commercials
ReplyDeleteBob Davie talks a lot of s*** for a coach who ran ND into the ground and hasn't landed a HC gig since...
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, Nevada's offense scored 10 points in a half. Yeah, they have moved the ball quite a bit, but these idiot commentators are talking like Nevada has scored 45 points this half. One touchdown and a fieldgoal...that's it. The reality doesn't matter to them, only what the talking points were before the game started.
ReplyDeleteHahaha we'd catch em off guard at least
ReplyDeleteWhat comments are you referring to Greg? These commentators have mostly been dissing the offense.
ReplyDeleteSteve, what were your expectations going into this game? Nevada is a 12-1 team ranked in the Top 20. BC is a 7-5 mediocre team that has a 5 game surge against a bunch of crappy ACC teams. We're the underdogs. If we win this game, it will be a fairly big upset.
ReplyDeleteBC O line looks terrible. We have 3time outs, try passing the ball. Spaz doesn't want to win, he just wants to lose by less.
ReplyDeleteHelmet to helmet....oh well, WTF, get it together....Amenic....Catch the ball...
ReplyDeleteOh man Spaz is a bumbling idiot. At least he made me smile for the first time since BC's TD.
ReplyDeleteAt least Spaz is honest. This offense IS anemic, to be generous.
ReplyDeleteSpaz calls O anemic? How about vapid, as in the offensive play calling?
ReplyDeleteI expected BC's coaches to pretend to try to win a game. I think we have more talent than Nevada. Nevada beat one good team in Boise State, and they play in a much weaker conference than BC does. So I expected BC to come out and play better than they are playing, after 40 days of preparation and coaching. Nevada is not that much better than BC (talent wise)
ReplyDeleteSpaz will never take responsibility for BC's crappiness. It's always poor execution to him. The fault always lies with the players. You will never hear him say that the game plan sucks, or the play calling sucks, or that the preparation sucked. I would loathe to play for him.
ReplyDeleteI agree Steve, we have the capacity to win this game. Execution is terrible
ReplyDeleteI would like to see how many other defenses held this team to 10 points in the first half. I believe Boise State held them in check for a half.
ReplyDeleteFrom the way they talk, you would think Nevada was up by 30. At least that how it seems...maybe I'm just irritable watching our crappy offense.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree that a lot rests with the coach, how can you win a game when your receivers drop that many passes?!?! Really, we could have moved the ball, but they dropped easy ones, and there were some more difficult catches that still could have been hauled in. What option do you have, when almost every pass is dropped? I actually thought the play calling wasn't that bad and would have seemed decent if there was better execution.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we have more talent on defense, but you are smoking a San Francisco Special circa 1968 if you actually believe BC has more talent on offense. I can go position by position and it is very clear that Nevada has more talent.
ReplyDeleteAt least the Philly Eagles lost...
ReplyDeleteThe only advantage to this lack of offense is that even GDF and Spaz will realize that there must be a change at Offensive Coordinator.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lackluster performance on national TV, will demand that there be a new OC. Tranquill will be thrown off the back of the sled to slow down the hungry wolves. Spaz will last a couple of more years and BC will slide into football mediocrity.
I hope it isn't true; but I fear it will be.
NV QB looks like Kumar from Harold and Kimar
ReplyDeleteI disagree eagleboston. BC gets to use the ACC as a recruiting tool. Kapearnik had one offer to play college football, and while I don't know the rest of the offense, I am sure that it is a similar situation. I believe that BC has more raw talent than Nevada, again by virtue of being in the ACC. Look at our O Line. We have the talent to dominate most other schools (as seen at time in the last 5 games of the season) but today we are getting smoked.
ReplyDeleteFinally, an actual first down catch.
ReplyDeleteHoly Shit, a catch
ReplyDeleteOk we get the point. We need to recruit faster wide receivers.
ReplyDeleteThose good feelings were short-lived.
ReplyDeleteYear our WR look like garbage. Slow, cement hands. O Line is getting blown up.
ReplyDeleteLuuuuuuuuuuke!!!!
ReplyDeleteLUUUUUUUUUUKKKKEE!
ReplyDeleteThat was a terrible throw.
LUUUUUUUUUKE
ReplyDeleteBoy Wonder!!!!! Any chance we can punch this in??
ReplyDeleteFor the love of God put the ball into the end zone!
ReplyDeleteBoy Wonder!
ReplyDeleteTHAT
ReplyDeleteWAS
AMAZING
GREAT hands!!! Thought they were burnt on that play action...
ReplyDeleteBest hands on the team??
ReplyDeleteI have a bad feeling about this. They had 9 dudes in the box, you think they expected a run?
ReplyDeleteNevada has been blitzing so much that the tight ends and RBs have to be open. Might want to use them here.
ReplyDeleteWTF is up with this play calling??
ReplyDeleteAre you fucking kidding me Tranq? Fucking ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI think they opted not to bring the O-line on this trip due to budget issues.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Nyquil era continues...
ReplyDeleteTranq is such a waste
ReplyDeleteKinda hard to block 9 dudes.
ReplyDeleteF'ing fire Tranquill, this is getting ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteYou need 7 there. What a wasted opportunity. I was praying for Kuechly to get in the endzone because I didn't think we could punch it in. Nevada literally had almost everyone in the box 1st and 2nd down.
ReplyDeleteThat series of events just defines the season. Defense makes an incredible play but the offense lays an egg.
ReplyDeleteOh well, at least I have a reason to stay up to watch the rest of the game.
Jeez, like they said earlier, we are trying not to lose this game, no effort to win it by our coaches. Thank God for our D.
ReplyDeleteTranq better pray Luke doesn't climb up to the booth and beat him to death.
ReplyDeleteNot that that would take much.
Jesus
Spaz is all about damage control. Why not do a PA fake on first down?? Easy TD.
ReplyDeleteNo imagination whatsoever. That was awful
ReplyDeletePrevent offense. BC has nothing to lose. We are underdogs by 7.5. We don't need a good showing, we need to try and win. Up the middle isn't going to work.
ReplyDeleteThe BC Playbook is a pamphlet. C'mon, what do we really do on offense that you couldn't just tweet once and it's 'nuff said? Feel bad for the kids--we're playing these guys tuff and are still just poppin' FG's in the red zone.
ReplyDeleteTranquill needs to be fired (or allowed to "retire") immediately after this game.
ReplyDeleteNow would be better.
You try to score a TD from 1st and goal from the what? 3 yard line?
Also love the classiness of Kaepernick's mother to 'reappear' in the senior year right before her son gets drafted... gag
ReplyDeleteTranquill is an embarassment to the program, but perhaps worse, an embarassment to the kids on the team. Really is a disincentive to give it 100% when you are taking direction from such inept OC.
ReplyDeleteNice play Fletcher
ReplyDeleteOur defense must hate Tranquil. And Spaz.
ReplyDelete3 runs. Punt. No need to try a pass on our side of the field.
ReplyDelete@Peter: hah, thought the same thing about his mother...gold digger. Shameless.
ReplyDeleteWhy did Swigert catch that punt?????????
ReplyDeleteGreat going D - we're proud of you.
ReplyDeleteLet's run it up the middle without McCluskey blocking.
Tranquil is such a pox on our team. Our offense is truly one of the most poorly coached units among all of the FBS. It's kind of amazing actually.
ReplyDeleteTry a PA on 1st down please
ReplyDeleteSurprise #2!
ReplyDeleteDraw play? Slant to the TE? Bubble screen?
ReplyDeleteThere are other plays beyond simply a goddman run up the middle.
THIS IS UNF#$KINGBELIEVABLE!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome adjustment and catch by Clyde! Great throw by Chase, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat catch but why put your frosh Qb in that position over and over again.
ReplyDeleteI literally might have a heart attack tonight
ReplyDeleteUnreal. Our O-line looks like it isn't even trying. They let three defenders get behind the screen without even attempting a block.
ReplyDeleteTranq isn't even trying anymore. Nobody could be this inept.
ReplyDeleteDan I'll be joining you in the ER
ReplyDeleteRun, Run, Pass on a 3rd and long.
ReplyDeleteThat's all on Tranq.
Rettiq's looked solid tonight, actually.
BC is winning the turnover battle tonight 2-0 but we are still losing by 7.
ReplyDeleteOur O Line is horrible tonight.
With 8 or 9 people in the box, there's way too many people to block on this piss poor plays. BC has no chance of gaining any yards with this crap. Spread the field and gaps will start to open up.
ReplyDeleteRettig,
ReplyDeleteEasy on the 12 step drops. It's called a pocket for a reason.
Come on....let's go....1st down to Mr. Twitter....3rd and 10 now...sack and fumble...empty hand....
ReplyDeleteMaybe our D can put us at the goal line again
ReplyDeleteI mean jesus f-ing christ there were only two options here for Tranq going into this game
ReplyDelete1. My fate is already sealed might as well go out with a bang
or
2. My fate isn't sealed, I better show them something.
This is neither, not even close. This "If I cant play I'm taking my ball with me"
But Steve, you're right. Our O-Line is getting pushed 2-4 yards deep on every passing play, and is getting no push on the run.
ReplyDeleteI have an idea coach - let's work the middle of the line for no gain and then face 3rd and long with no blocking back.
ReplyDeleteMcCluskey must hate these coaches.
I'd like to see a mutiny by the O, so they can call their own plays. I'd like to see the O coaches throw Nyquil into the shower room and lock the door.
Can we at least go to the Bazooka and give Andre a chance?
ReplyDeleteThat's an INT
ReplyDeleteAny update on Keuchly's tackle count? Needs 20+ or something for the single season record.
ReplyDeleteI think that's a catch. Ugh. That's the game. No way we can score twice.
ReplyDeleteOr an incomplete
ReplyDeleteGood night now
ReplyDeleteWe needed that call.
ReplyDeleteThe front seven has had a hell of game. Even on that disputed catch, Quinn hit Kaepernick as part of a 2-man rush.
ReplyDeleteOn that long pass completion, the BC end was totally being held. Complete BS that it was not called.
ReplyDeletethat pick would have been huge....unfortunately 10 points seems like 50 tonight.
ReplyDeleteQuinn could be really good
ReplyDeleteWell, at least they showed the most clown-ass students in the stands before that field goal. At least we'll win something tonight.
ReplyDeleteWith our great D, slow and undazzling as they are, we would be in the top 20 if we had any offensive threat...
ReplyDeletemaybe we could get Mayhem to be our OC next season.
Ten points seems like 50 every night with this offense.
ReplyDeleteThat special teams gaffe is killing us right now.
ReplyDeleteTranq, you have nothing to lose. You are retiring at the end of the season, down by 10. Let's get creative.
I haven't heard the golden voice commercials. have I missed them?
ReplyDelete
