In-game comments post: Wake Forest

As I've been saying, I think we can still win a few more games...and it starts today. Harris is starting, Rettig is due and the D should be ready for Wake. Go BC! Leave your thoughts and comments during the game.

You can follow me on twitter throughout the game.

  1. Price will make this a long game unless we stop him.

  2. As usual, BC is well prepared for the start of the game, not unlike the "fans" who are either still out in the parking lots or just not showing up.

  3. If only the stands could be filled with us blog followers.

  4. alumni has always been slow to fill up. the team is 1-3 and hasn't played inspired all year.

lets talk about something that had been a positive but is now a glaring weakness -- our D line. what happened? same defensive staff in place for the last decade, why do we have 0 quality defensive linemen? there are 2 BC alum in the NFL who are d-lineman -- both were fist round picks and super bowl champs.

what is spaz's excuse for this?

  5. bj raji isnt walking through that door.

we blitz an LB on one play, it got picked up no problem, their qb connected for a 20+ yard completion, and then donnie fletcher got flagged for a 15 yard personal foul.

    catch the fever!

  6. Why do we give their receivers an 8-yard cushion in the red zone? Crazy.

  7. andre williams -- that looked like a brutal knee injury.

montel looks great -- making good cuts, making defenders miss, getting extra yards. great to have him back, he's our best player.

    ReplyDelete
  8. wow a nice wrinkle to the offense on that amidon run. montel made a great block to spring it.

montel best block of the game -- our O-line is just awful. couldn't block 1 guy and montel's screen goes for nothing.

seriously, what happened to the line play? what was a staple is now just so poor -- bad players, bad execution.

  9. You can see what we were missing with Harris

  10. what was the andre williams update? my screen froze. apparently its an ankle injury?

  11. Just returned from my son's playoff game (they lost 39-0). Looks like another close one with BC-Wake. How did Wake get their touchdown?

  12. this effing team doesnt play defense.

    god this sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  13. We don't tackle people like a well-coached D1 team should...this is just difficult to watch. Unacceptable.

    ReplyDelete
  14. unacceptable! how many times this game have we seen a defender make an arm tackle and miss? c'mon guys, wrap them up!!!

first touchdown was first drive of the game, their qb passed at will and they ran it in from like 2 yards out

  15. BC's defensive line: 4 offsides so far.

    ever to excel! #firespaz

  16. if rettig takes a knee i'm turning the game off. if spaz doesn't want to win then i don't want to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Good to know El miz is still watching

    ReplyDelete
  18. I didn't think he'd make that FG

  19. The old problems have been compounded by scary new ones--we still play way off their receivers--the 10 yard cushion is still there--our D line can't stop the run, we're not wrapping up, YAC's are killing us, our O-line is leaky on pass protect, the QB is inaccurate, wide, low heavy handed, (Shinskie looked better than this...ouch!) Montel is great, but blocks for himself cuz there's still no O-line push, and our WR's drop a lot of Rettig's few good throws. Keuchly is ever good, but a good pass rush with poor pass D is just torture to watch.

The OC play-calling is still a little too Tranq-esque, n'est-ce pas? Do we ever "go for it" on 4th'n short? Cajones, anyone?

Do people just get crazy at Alumni?
I can't imagine watching this"live" and not going bezerk in public...
    Go Eaghles! Look Alive!

  20. The damn squirrel has seen more of the endzone than BC players have. And if I were Rettig, I'd transfer, if for no other reason than personal well being. Are we even sure the line is actually trying to protect him?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Our o-line play is terrible. They are getting to him no matter how many they bring. Sean Devine has to go.

    ReplyDelete
  22. scoreboard watch:

northwestern (with persa) is up 28-10 on the road at illiniois (4-0, ranked 23rd).

    ReplyDelete
  23. The squirrel clearly was actually on the team, but is now transferring and attempting to find his way out of Alumni Stadium without down field blocking.

    ReplyDelete
  24. For the rest of the season, every team could exclusively throw bubble screens and we'd never adjust our approach. 2011 is spaztastic.

    ReplyDelete
  25. spaz is still perplexed by the bubble screen

    ReplyDelete
  26. Don't fret gang. ATL predicted 31-27. There is still hope.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I sat through one of these Nationally Televised Embarrassments of Boston College Football in Notre Dame stadium in 1992. Atleast that was a thrashing from a highly ranked team (they were like 5th and we were #17 in the nation that day.) We lost 55-7, and Jerome Bettis ran through us like BC was melted buttah, but Coach Tom Coughlin was in his like 1st or 2nd year. (The next year Coughlin's well-coached Eagles beat ND and Lou Holtz and destroyed their little National Championship bid.

But THIS? This Game? To lose like this to Wake and just suck while we get blown away with a haphazard effort and poor execution and stupid coaching? The BC highlite is a 52 yard field goal? We're at Home?

This? This is a new, All Time Low...
I hope everyone at Alumni, including the squirrel, has a Designated Driver...Go Eagles! Make a Comeback and bring us back to life!

  28. I'm having flashbacks to the 1995 season.

El Miz, you jinxed the Wildcats.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I thought Rettig was supposed to be good. He has absolutely zero accuracy. The crappy OLine doesn't help and nor do the shlt we have at WR....but Rettig is not very good.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Super Mario Mustache trying to get everyone fired up on the sideline.

    He's Spaztastic!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Is it possible that Quigley is the most effective player on the team?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Eagleboston, you are hilarious--thank's for the laugh in the midst of this debacle...Rettig just called for intentional grounding,@#$%. Got no pass protection or imagination, either.
What a joke...now the fans are booing.
Man, this is bad. Let's bring Shinskie in so they commentators can talk about how Old he is...whaddyasay?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Doesn't Quinton Porter still have some eligibility?

  34. (Insert Mario Star theme music)

  35. We scored!...We scored a TD! And Montel broke the all-time BC yardage record! (Hope he's OK cuz he's the only shot we got, and he brought us to within 8...Could there be a chance for the Chase to cut to the chase and win the case?)
    Go Eagles! Make this happen!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congrats to Montel. In the over 100 years of BC football, no one has gained more yards than Harris. What an incredible achievement! And to think he was the back-up of his recruiting class.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Classic Spaz. Burns a critical timeout in an extremely close game with 7 minutes left. We're gonna regret losing that timeout later.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Classic ineptitude...what, we can't go down the edge of the field and throw some passes short to the side lines? We get a procedure penalty in the red zone? We throw late to a deep outin the endzone? Using timeouts now?
Rettig...? Man, the kid needs to step up and he's way overdue.
    How'bout some D?

    ReplyDelete
  39. How do you commit pass interference yet still allow the guy to catch the ball?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Great job defense! Way to step up when it counts!

    ReplyDelete
  41. BC 2011 Season. Time of death....2:52 in the 4th.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Crap, that is the first time ever that Reverse Karma has not worked. The gods are definitely aligned against us. The Super Mario Mustache is such a negative force for the Eagles.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i still don't understand how that HB pass worked. the guy threw a wobbler, BC had 3 guys back.

BC 0-2 in ACC and 1-4 overall. who does spazzy throw under the bus this week?

    ReplyDelete
  44. next 5 games:

    at clemson
    at VA Tech
    at maryland
home vs. florida state thursday night game
    at NC state

i expect to be 2-8 going into ND.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It took me 2 years and 3 games to jump on the anti-Spaz bandwagon. But I soon realized the error in my ways. How many more will join us this week?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well, I'm going to head up to Ames and watch a real coach (Paul Rhoads) hopefully upset Texas tonight.

Bummed about BC, just bummed. 1995 redux.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Eagle Boston there is nobody left on the Spaz bandwagon other than Gene D. You were the last one.
