Did you read Benbow's article in the Globe today? Can't believe they (the players) really feel Spaz got dealt a bad hand. If a CEO went 8-5, 7-6, 4-8 and 2-10 the board would demand his resignation. In this case, the board should be the donors and season tickets holders.

ReplyDeleteNo denying the players are classy and loyal (and know what side their bread is currently buttered on.) Also no denying that the hiring of Spaz as HC was a total disaster; he was in over his head from Day 1.

I will, however, be eagerly awaiting the announcement of a press conference.

ReplyDeleterettig is the most overrated player ever to play at bc. everyone else stinks, so people put him on a pedastal. he is an avg qb at best and just because he was recruited by tenn and ucla people just assumed he was the next flutie or ryan, its ridiculous. he has not shown much progress over the last three years at all.

vs. VA Tech: 26 carries for 133 yards (5.1 per); 5 receptions for 53 yards
today already has 8 rushes for 45 yards.
in sum, Spaz benched our best running back for 6 games. other RBs fumbled and didn't get benched. another perplexing subplot to this horrible season.

ReplyDeleteFor BC1900 and AA, Rettig has my respect because he continues to play hard despite everything facing him. He may not be the next coming of Matt Ryan, but with a terrible coach and terrible protection, I think he's done well by his teammates and BC.

Watch the tape of Rettig in this game. He can barely plant his front foot in the ground to follow-through on his throws.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with the team, on the field, is not the quarterback. It is the offensive line. Anyone who is attacking our quarterback really does not know anything about football.
Next season is not going to be much better for him or the program. There are ZERO offensive-linemen in this seasons recruiting class. The existing pipeline looks weak.
Here is a link to Rettig's stats. There is no regression in the numbers. He played better this season than last in terms of passsing the eye test as well.
Remember now his leading receiver was a lightly recruited athlete out of Hotchkiss, he has no running backs of note, no offensive-line and his defense has done nothing in terms of turnovers - he doesn't get any extra possessions.
