Yeah, I wish it were 4th and 5 instead of 4th and inches. It would have been nice to try to go up 21-3 but you have to get points when you can against a top-ranked team.
Absolutely not. Should have gone for it on 4th and a foot. BC needs to score TDs, not FGs to win. FSU hads not stopped the run all day. Getting a TD there puts them up 21-3, and that could get in FSU's head. A FG still makes it only a 2 possession game. Even if they missed, FSU would have been pinned deep. And as I write this, FSU scores quickly to make it a 1 possession game. Horrible call.
I was joking about the Spaz cushion. I do think we have to play the long ball and force them to dink and dunk. We have given up 2 huge pass plays which led to 10 points so we may have to give up the short stuff to prevent the devastating big plays.
I'm upset about them blowing the lead but if you asked me last night if BC would score 17 points against this team, I would have told you that you were nuts. This could very well end up being a 42-17 game, especially after Jimbo makes his adjustments, but at least we won't get embarrassed a la USC.
BC basically just lost the game going for a FG. It's been all downhill since then. That FG turned BC into a conservative shell. BC finds the most risk averse coaches ever.
21 straight points. Ouch! It just seems like the last 5 years have been nothing but misery for BC. You are always expecting the worst instead of the best. Then again, we are only down 7 to a top 10 team.
What angers me, though, is the 3 straight runs rather than throwing caution to the wind and going for it. You don't have the tlent to go toe to toe with these guys. You have nothing to lose. Why not execute your 2-minute offense and at least get 1 first down to keep their explosive offense off the field?
I wanted to see a fake field goal on that 4th and inches. I don't believe BC has run a special teams fake in over 5 years so that would have been the time to try it. Those 3 points mean absolutely nothing to us now.
Those 3 points don't mean anything right now. Had they gotten a TD, they would still only be down by 3 though. And the FG decision changed the entire game and all the momentum. BC went into a conservative shell after that and FSU destroyed them.
If Florida State scores again, I'm thinking we will be forced to abandon the run and go to the passing game to try to catch up. Another theory is to keep running to kill time and make the bleeding slow. I don't want us to abandon our game plan yet, but if we get down by another TD, we need to open up to try to get back in it.
Good point by Meter that on that pass interference call, the receiver went out of bounds, meaning he is no longer eligible. Further, the ball was un-catchable. That should not have been called.
Who coaches BC linemen? I have noticed that they are not getting their hands in the air as the QB releases. I know it is a long-shot, but at least try.
Please tell me we can now open things up and pass every down. You are down by 17 points. Forget the run, let's work on our passing game as we need the practice for future opponents.
We are 2-2. No surprise there. Exactly where I thought we would be at this point in the season. We can't hang with Clemson, or Virginia Tech, but the rest of the games are winnable.
Last year this game would have been a 52-3 by now. Kudos to Daz to coaching these guys up & keeping them fighting against the #8 team in country. I don't think anyone would have thought it would be a 14 pt game at beginning of 4th qtr.
If he can find a few athletes to plug in at the skill positions, I like our chances in next few years.
I know we are getting out butts kicked, but it seems different than the past 4 years. There is a little more fight in these guys and you get the sense that they are going to give effort until the bitter end. It seems like they believe in the vision of this coaching regime and I am becoming hopeful that we might somehow muster 4 more wins for a bowl slot.
And give Daz some talent and look out. You are within striking distance of a top 10 team with a bare cupboard and coming off a disastrous 2-win season. Once he gets his players to come into this system, BC should set and achieve higher goals. He is just a few skill players short of being competitive.
Very disappointing finish. They lose by 14. The TD at the end of the first half and the abysmal interception for a TD were unforgiveable and hard to believe. You can't make any mistakes against FSU. They will drive that burning lance through your nose. The injury to 45 (Mahdi) was a dirty hit by O'Leary, the tight end. He should have been ejected. However, FSU just overpowered BC the second half. There are big problems with the d backs.
Was at the game and the environment of the stadium changed after that FG. You go from tightening the screw to looking like some quitters. The WHOLE GAME turned on that play. We were a shell after that and got steamrolled.
Then, on the long TD, no one knew what was going on. Half the players looking at the clock, heading to locker room, anything but what they should have been instructed to do, which should have been for about FOUR of them to park themselves in the end zone and wait for the hail mary to get tossed up to one of those monster WR's. I'd have taken the staff calling a TO on defense and parking half the team in the endzone and rushing 2 than that mockery of a defense. Complete breakdown.
Then, just as they needed to tack on some more points to keep pressure on, they switch to some WR screen nonsense 3 plays in a row. This team isn't Villanova that we're playing. Their defenders were bigger, stronger, and faster. They blew by blocks and from what I recall they all went for negative yardage, followed by about a 30 yard punt. Would a normal play action be too hard to mix into this screen collection?
I feel for the players, because they left it all on the field, and played their hearts out, (if someone told me before the game we'd put up 30 I'd have laughed) but the coaching was Spaz-esque for 3 quarters. Everyone knows FSU is going to put up points, if you have a 4 and inches on the 4, you best damn well go for it because you will need those points, and it came back to bite them today. Good job players. I hope the coaches get their acts together.

The UNC game is looking more and more like a toss-up game for us.
ReplyDeleteAt my seat. Eagle Walk was very good.
ReplyDeletePlayers look almost like deer in the headlights.
All FSU receivers look like superstars in practice.
Look for BC defensive pressure early.
Beautiful day for college football
ReplyDeleteFSU aerial game is awesome in practice - it's getting windy - blow winds, blow.
ReplyDeleteOne more and I will shut up - pretty good FSU contingent.
ReplyDeleteCome on wind - blow, blow, blow some more.
Jack: How filled is are the upper endzone areas?
ReplyDeleteLate arriving crowd but some fans in the upper endzone so far. Hoping for 40k
ReplyDeleteYou cannot ask for a better start than that.
ReplyDeleteI can't get the game until the S. Carolina - Central Florida game ends. Praying that one does not go to overtime.
ReplyDeleteeagleboston:
ReplyDeleteTry ESPN 2 until the USC-UCF game ends.
That was a great drive. The OLine looked good. Rettig also deserves credit...that was probably his fourth option.
ReplyDeleteGo it just in time for the touchdown. What a play!
ReplyDeleteFYI the game is now returned to ABC.
ReplyDeleteThat was huge to hold them to a field goal. They look tight. Let's hope they stay that way.
ReplyDeleteBoys playing great right now!!! Keep it up baby!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTremendous play-calling and great execution! What a fun team. Don't know if this will last, but at least we will put some points on the board.
ReplyDeleteThis is fun numbers 41 and 80 sinkovek and miller
ReplyDeleteThe defensive gameplan has been good. Winston is confused.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, this game has been a blast. Play-calling has been inspired, and the D has been electric. Got to keep it up for three more quarters.
ReplyDeleteI agree on taking the points.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun game so far.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I wish it were 4th and 5 instead of 4th and inches. It would have been nice to try to go up 21-3 but you have to get points when you can against a top-ranked team.
ReplyDeleteNow I really wish we had the 21 points. It will be hard to hold these guys back now.
ReplyDeleteWe've got to get pressure because our DBs can't hang with them.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should go back to the Spaz 10 yard cushion.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely not.
ReplyDeleteNo, no Spaz cushion. We just look bad when we get beat with the Spaz cushion.
ReplyDeleteNeed strong defensive series to get back momentum.
ReplyDeleteI was joking about the Spaz cushion. I do think we have to play the long ball and force them to dink and dunk. We have given up 2 huge pass plays which led to 10 points so we may have to give up the short stuff to prevent the devastating big plays.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of these Rettig keepers.
ReplyDeleteTime for some play-action. They have 10 guys in the box.
ReplyDeleteThe Rettig runs aren't pretty but it keeps them honest.
ReplyDeleteThat Rettig keeper destroyed all momentum on that drive. Bad, bad call.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like BC has reverted to its USC game plan the last 2 possessions.
ReplyDeletePlaying great defense aside from the blown coverage.....lets see if we can continue this
ReplyDeleteUh oh
ReplyDeleteThere is the BC defense we all know and love. Can't wait until Addazio gets some speed on campus.
ReplyDeleteDamn that looked so easy for FSU
ReplyDeleteTotal breakdown on that TD.
ReplyDeleteYes going for that FG was genius. Need points on this possession or it could be lights out.
ReplyDeleteTotal breakdown on that drive....smh
ReplyDeleteOK, do we take a knee and not risk a Pick 6 or do we just throw caution to the wind and go for it since we are such huge underdogs?
ReplyDeleteWe need to stay aggressive on D. Playing off gives Winston too much time.
ReplyDeleteStupid idea to run the clock out why not throw it
ReplyDeleteThis play calling is absolutely enraging. Just giving the ball back to them with a ton of time left.
ReplyDeleteI'm upset about them blowing the lead but if you asked me last night if BC would score 17 points against this team, I would have told you that you were nuts. This could very well end up being a 42-17 game, especially after Jimbo makes his adjustments, but at least we won't get embarrassed a la USC.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind killing clock now. Different from Spaz doing it against Army. Plus we get the ball to start the half.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very Spaz-like end to the half. Florida State has plenty of time and the mo to score again.
ReplyDeleteSpaz is back!!!!! The horror!
ReplyDeleteWow!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck is BC thinking there? How the hell can that happen?
ReplyDeleteBrutal
ReplyDeleteFoolish and silly
ReplyDeleteThe air is out of this place; you play not to lose: you lose.
ReplyDeleteBC basically just lost the game going for a FG. It's been all downhill since then. That FG turned BC into a conservative shell. BC finds the most risk averse coaches ever.
ReplyDeleteThat was bad coaching clock management plus both brown and day took the momentum away from the players - sad.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile Winston is the real deal. They had him sacked with no time on the clock.
21 straight points. Ouch! It just seems like the last 5 years have been nothing but misery for BC. You are always expecting the worst instead of the best. Then again, we are only down 7 to a top 10 team.

Young BC fans, that is what Miami felt like after Flutie to Phelan.
ReplyDeleteThey were playing well and excited and day took it away.
ReplyDeleteTough to stop Winston buy we are trying.
Must come out to score on second half kick off
Bravesbill,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to see a fake field goal on that 4th and inches. I don't believe BC has run a special teams fake in over 5 years so that would have been the time to try it. Those 3 points mean absolutely nothing to us now.

ReplyDeletePlay to win the damn game. If you don't win, at least you tried. You will never win playing not to lose. That's what makes it so frustrating.
ReplyDeleteIf Florida State scores again, I'm thinking we will be forced to abandon the run and go to the passing game to try to catch up. Another theory is to keep running to kill time and make the bleeding slow. I don't want us to abandon our game plan yet, but if we get down by another TD, we need to open up to try to get back in it.
ReplyDeleteGood point by Meter that on that pass interference call, the receiver went out of bounds, meaning he is no longer eligible. Further, the ball was un-catchable. That should not have been called.
ReplyDeleteAlso, how about that punt by Freese? He has been punting well all season and then he barely gets it over the 50.
ReplyDeleteNice job Myles!
The first couple games, Freese didn't get much distance on his punts. Last game he did really well though.
ReplyDeleteCheap play by O'Leary. Just hit him in the chest.
ReplyDeleteMust hold them to a field goal here.
ReplyDeleteWho coaches BC linemen? I have noticed that they are not getting their hands in the air as the QB releases. I know it is a long-shot, but at least try.
ReplyDeleteMehdi is gone looks bad
ReplyDeletePlay to win Ryan day
ReplyDeleteOK, announcers, you have me convinced, I'm going to BC!
ReplyDelete"BC has very little depth." Thanks Spaz. Explain to me again why we have to pay your loser ass $1,000,000?
ReplyDeleteRettig's true pocket plays have not been good.
ReplyDeleteOff to watch the rest of the LSU-UGA game. Can't take this crap any more.
ReplyDelete31 yard punt?? There is no one else on the team that can punt? For God's sake!
ReplyDeleteWe need to start taking chances on D.
ReplyDeleteOn the bright side, we are losing by 10, the same deficit mighty Notre Dame faces at home against 14th ranked OU.
ReplyDeleteAlso, last year we lost to the Seminoles 51-7. That's progress in 1 year.
It is not why we are losing but the refs have been bad.
ReplyDeleteLike Willis' energy
ReplyDeletePlease tell me we can now open things up and pass every down. You are down by 17 points. Forget the run, let's work on our passing game as we need the practice for future opponents.
ReplyDeleteWe are 2-2. No surprise there. Exactly where I thought we would be at this point in the season. We can't hang with Clemson, or Virginia Tech, but the rest of the games are winnable.
Well, there's a Td
ReplyDeleteThanks for opening things up Daz. Just what I ordered! Love this kid Willis.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the safeties?
ReplyDeleteWe are not ready for a shootout yet.
ReplyDeleteGreat stop. 41-27 and giving our guys a fighting chance. Also, Dinich just noted that BC is no longer a pushover under Addazio. Concur, HD, concur.
ReplyDeleteBad pass. Forcing things.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible that Rettig has actually regressed from last year? He has looked pretty pathetic the entire year so far.
ReplyDeleteRyan Day had the wrong players on the field that series - and 3 passes over the middle - give me a break. The same play and the defender was smiling.
ReplyDeleteLast year this game would have been a 52-3 by now. Kudos to Daz to coaching these guys up & keeping them fighting against the #8 team in country. I don't think anyone would have thought it would be a 14 pt game at beginning of 4th qtr.

ReplyDeleteI liked the bubble screen towards the line.
ReplyDeleteThe are still fighting.
ReplyDeleteEagleboston: this does feel different.
ReplyDeleteAnother bright spot. Anyone know the last time a team pasted 34 on Florida State?
ReplyDeleteHard core fans are staying
ReplyDeleteLooks like Florida and Clemson put up 37 on them last season.
ReplyDeleteLet's get our own pick 6
ReplyDeletePeople are still in the stands, we are still watching & we've put the most points up ever against FSU. It IS different.
ReplyDeleteFsu getting away with a lot of holding
ReplyDeleteThis play is huge obviously
ReplyDeleteWhy does it take Daz and Day this long to open up the play book?
ReplyDeleteNo quiit in this teami
ReplyDeleteLosing stinks but this game showed me a lot today.
ReplyDeleteWhy a timeout there?
ReplyDeleteGood point BCeagle93. 34 points is the most BC has EVER scored against Florida State. There are a lot of positive take-aways with this loss.
ReplyDelete"Jags did not recruit anybody." Neither did Spaz, but Sean McDonough is right, the decline started with Jag's recruiting no one his second year.
ReplyDeleteAnd give Daz some talent and look out. You are within striking distance of a top 10 team with a bare cupboard and coming off a disastrous 2-win season. Once he gets his players to come into this system, BC should set and achieve higher goals. He is just a few skill players short of being competitive.
