In-game comments post: Pitt
Pitt returns to the Heights. Fans return to the Heights. Students are back. It is the home opener, so let's make it a good one! Leave your thoughts and comments below.
That was a rough first half considering how it should have gone. Pitt isn't that much better than we are. Our tackling has been terrible and obviously we have to do a better job in the passing game.
I'm not freaking out though. I said in January that this is a step-back year. All of Jag's recruits are gone and Daz's recruits are very young. The leaders of this team are now Spaz guys and we know that Spaz could not recruit to save his life. We will be back next year. This year, we take our lumps. A lot of them.
Murphy is clearly not a passer. We cannot come back in this game with him at quarterback, but I don't think we have any alternative (all kidding about Flutie aside). He missed a wide open receiver on the bomb, threw too high on the INT (although Crimmins still should have caught it), and threw way too far outside for Wofford to stay inbound.
Man, USC next week, this season could go into disaster mode very swiftly. Losing to Pitt at home makes me question all of the remaining games except for Wake, NC State and Maine. A 4-win season is a highly likely scenario right now. Ouch!
USC is going to put up 60 easily esp. with that no huddle offense they've just installed. I wouldn't even count NCST or Wake as gimmes. This could be a 2 win year.
You can complain about the defense, but I doubt many ACC defenses will have success against Pitt. A 6'2" 252 pound back? Are you kidding me? That guy is sick.
And Murphy's complete inability to pass the ball is keeping the defense on the field. He flat out cannot throw the ball.
My brother who is not a BC guy and has no dog in this hunt just called me and said "Can't this guy make a simple pass? He is killing your defense! He's the reason they are on the field so much."
passing is off. he had time that last drive and missed, missed, missed.....but still not "way" off....i retain a glimmer of hope for the season (not the game)
This game's over. Let's take Murphy out and see what the other quarterbacks can do. If one provides a spark, now the whole team has some hope. If they stink, you are not out anything and you know Murphy is the guy going forward.
Kind of weird. I'm not feeling anything right now. I'm not sure if I am stunned or if I came in with such low expectations that I'm just not surprised about this dismantling.
Well, I was gonna leave a party early next week to see the USC game, but it might make more sense to DVR it and watch later. We are clearly not going to hang close to USC and the Trojans may put up 60 on the Eagles.
How come BC fans don't watch the whole game from the stands. It's funny..I graduated from BC. Most of my douchebag classmates never ventured further than Harvard Ave (why did they bother going to a city school?) It's safe to assume nothing has changed. So what goes on in the student housing that's so much fun? I always thought that scene was boring. Why not just watch the game and then go out drinking? I don't get it. What's the matter with you people?
ATL, this team is not going bowling. The only reason we went last year was due to the remnants of the Jag's recruits. We have to filter out the Spaz recruits and get some experience for the Daz guys before BC goes bowling again. I'm hoping next year, but we may be shut out until 2016.
Perk, it's not the students. It's the local alumni. I have found that the students stay all the way to the singing of the alma mater (which we did not have back in the 80's).
With conference expansion, getting to the ACCCG is going to be extremely challenging. Also, I would argue the Atlantic is tougher than the Coastal. Florida State, Clemson, and now Louisville. Ouch!
Shiz. I look at Alumni and think how great a Fri night would be there now. I have a career and a family now...plus I live in WI. But watching BC football and then doing a night out in Boston would be amazing. I'm gonna get back to BC this fall for sure. Godspeed fellow Eagles. Let's go get em next week!
I gave my 50 yard line tickets to the father of a player on the two-deep. The seats will definitely be filled by the player's grandparents.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't make it to Boston for this game, but next week, and others for sure. I'm locked into ESPN with much anticipation.
After all these years, I'm still nervous. :-)
My tickets will always be used. Don't blame me for a low turnout.
Go BC - beat PITT.
Red Sox - Blue Jays at Fenway tonight. Traffic must be brutal.
ReplyDeleteNice job, Fenway Sports Group.
I haven't seen Mehdi yet. Any problem?
ReplyDeleteThis defense is truly pathetic. Can't tackle. Secondary couldn't cover a freaking tortoise.
ReplyDeleteinability to tackle is crazy.
ReplyDeleteMurphy throws worse than Tebow too.
ReplyDeleteinability to hold line scrimmage bad too
ReplyDeletemomentum needs to change
ReplyDeletemedhi #45 was in
ReplyDeletec'mon Murphy settle down....play ball for the go ahead TD
ReplyDeletedid we "make a statement"? YES
ReplyDeleteno push by the OL
ReplyDeleteOh Jesus. Punting from the 34?! Who does that besides Spaz?
ReplyDeletenuts to punt from 34.... and to f' it up
ReplyDeletewow defense is awful
ReplyDeletehard to watch this shit
ReplyDeleteThis team is a joke. Nice punt call.
ReplyDeleteCan we fire Don Brown at halftime please?
ReplyDeleteOh, oh, this game is on life support. BC's offense is not designed to come from behind. Daz said so himself.
ReplyDeleteThat was a rough first half considering how it should have gone. Pitt isn't that much better than we are. Our tackling has been terrible and obviously we have to do a better job in the passing game.

ReplyDeleteGood start and then the "earth caved in". As from previous comments, the defense looks very bad.
ReplyDeleteJesus guys, it's only halftime. Pour a whiskey. Chill out...and hopefully our guys will have a better 2nd half.
ReplyDeletewill they learn to tackle at halftime? learn to hold the line of scrimmage on D? Learn to own the line of scrimmage on O?
ReplyDeleteReally fundamental stuff is going wrong.
Perk,
ReplyDeleteI've got some Maker's lined up for the 4th quarter.
Murphy doesn't seem to be comfortable in the pocket.
ReplyDeletefullback whiffed on that sack
ReplyDeleteRyan Dy needs to switch to the "heavy package." -- 2 tight ends, unbalanced lines, like last year
ReplyDeleteneeds to establish ground game before Murphy starts passing again.
hope we can hold them here
ReplyDeleteWho replaces Duggan in the middle?
ReplyDeletewhew.. lucked out int he punt.. c'mon big MO change
ReplyDeleteDaniles will be MLB
ReplyDeletePut in Flutie!
ReplyDeleteGo with Blanton's mod. It's much better.
ReplyDeleteI think BC needs to go option from here on out. It is the only thing working.
ReplyDeleteOr I should say eagle.
ReplyDeleteThis defensive drive is critical.
ReplyDeleteMurphy is clearly not a passer. We cannot come back in this game with him at quarterback, but I don't think we have any alternative (all kidding about Flutie aside). He missed a wide open receiver on the bomb, threw too high on the INT (although Crimmins still should have caught it), and threw way too far outside for Wofford to stay inbound.
ReplyDeleteOur "dudes" are terrible tacklers.
ReplyDeleteNow that's what a passer can do.
ReplyDeleteDudes still can't cover either. What a joke.
ReplyDeletei still think murphy could get better at passing. he's not horrible. i think he is learning about passing under pressure as a bC QB
ReplyDeletedefense is frighteningly bad.
ReplyDeleteDon Brown has failed to teach fundamentals
too much blitzing
Man, USC next week, this season could go into disaster mode very swiftly. Losing to Pitt at home makes me question all of the remaining games except for Wake, NC State and Maine. A 4-win season is a highly likely scenario right now. Ouch!
ReplyDeleteShut up and drink.
ReplyDeletewell, actually not all that much blitzing.. just bad D
ReplyDeleteUSC is going to put up 60 easily esp. with that no huddle offense they've just installed. I wouldn't even count NCST or Wake as gimmes. This could be a 2 win year.
ReplyDeleteYou can complain about the defense, but I doubt many ACC defenses will have success against Pitt. A 6'2" 252 pound back? Are you kidding me? That guy is sick.
ReplyDeleteAnd Murphy's complete inability to pass the ball is keeping the defense on the field. He flat out cannot throw the ball.
Also, it is frustrating that since Murphy is not a passer, they have to settle for 2-5 yard throws which do not advance the ball.
ReplyDeleteSee. If the D did anything, this could still be a game.
ReplyDeleteIt's about damn time Day opened the playbook up.
ReplyDelete"He flat out cannot throw the ball."
ReplyDeleteahem
The D also looked quite shaky against UMass eagle. What's the excuse there?
ReplyDeleteI'm yanking the foot out of my mouth.
ReplyDeleteThose last two throws looked really good especially the first one on the run. Too bad it took over 40 mins for him to get in a groove.
ReplyDeleteKeep ballin whiskey. Trust me. I know what I'm talking about. This is how you win football games.
ReplyDeleteYou guys should be grateful when I go extreme on the criticism. Look back over the past 7 years of comments and every time I go negative, BC scores.
ReplyDeleteReverse karma works!
Big stop. Now we need to answer.
ReplyDeleteLet's go Ryan Day - give us a chance.
ReplyDeleteYou win football games by going down 20? Big possession here.
ReplyDeleteEagleBoston "Go" negative?... think you start there :-)
ReplyDeleteJust trying to be too cute. Just run some simple plays.
ReplyDeleteOh Jesus. He can't even hit that pass.
ReplyDeleteWas cute but would have been a big play if executed properly.
ReplyDeleteMy brother who is not a BC guy and has no dog in this hunt just called me and said "Can't this guy make a simple pass? He is killing your defense! He's the reason they are on the field so much."
ReplyDeleteTe bad news is Bordner might have run for the 1st down.
ReplyDeleteMurphy not quite used to dealing with pressure. he needs to call Chase and get some advise.
ReplyDeletewhy is our OL so bad?
Need another 3rd down stop right here.
ReplyDeleteNope.
ReplyDeleteHow come we don't have any sophomore or junior quarterbacks on our roster?
ReplyDeleteGod, Spaz just completely screwed us. I despise that man.
If it is any consolation, someone told me Herbstreit picked Pitt to win the Coastal.
ReplyDeleteConner is good.
ReplyDeleteThe Coastal Division is probably worse than the Big East. Wow are those teams bad.
ReplyDeleteAnother head scratcher by Daz.
ReplyDeleteI am not expecting a comeback, but I want to see BC put up a fight in the last 10 minutes.
ReplyDeleteAccept the penalty!
ReplyDeleteI can see everyone left the Stadium and went over to Shea to party.
ReplyDeleteexcepting Murphy's 51 yard run, BC averaging 1.7 yards per carry
ReplyDeleteGo OL
Gutless. Awful.
ReplyDeleteWe don't need "energy" from Murphy. We need better passing.
ReplyDeletepassing is off. he had time that last drive and missed, missed, missed.....but still not "way" off....i retain a glimmer of hope for the season (not the game)
ReplyDeleteThis game's over. Let's take Murphy out and see what the other quarterbacks can do. If one provides a spark, now the whole team has some hope. If they stink, you are not out anything and you know Murphy is the guy going forward.
ReplyDeleteWhy not just play the young QBs and groom them for the future. Murphy obviously isn't the answer and this season is as good as dead.
ReplyDeleteKind of weird. I'm not feeling anything right now. I'm not sure if I am stunned or if I came in with such low expectations that I'm just not surprised about this dismantling.

ReplyDeleteThe thought of playing USC horrifies me.
ReplyDeleteWell, I was gonna leave a party early next week to see the USC game, but it might make more sense to DVR it and watch later. We are clearly not going to hang close to USC and the Trojans may put up 60 on the Eagles.
ReplyDeleteWhy risk injury to Murphy in a game way out of hand? You have already blown Wade's redshirt, why not put him in?
ReplyDeleteI don't feel great about the USC game now. Also worried about going bowling.
ReplyDeleteHow come BC fans don't watch the whole game from the stands. It's funny..I graduated from BC. ReplyDeleteI don't care about most of the ACC shitty bowls.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in being in the hunt for the Atlantic Division (and the ACCCG).
Perk - I agree.
ReplyDeleteBig Jack,
ReplyDeleteWith conference expansion, getting to the ACCCG is going to be extremely challenging. Also, I would argue the Atlantic is tougher than the Coastal. Florida State, Clemson, and now Louisville. Ouch!
That looked like he touched it early.
ReplyDeleteVery disappointing display. Murphy can run but he can't pass. His mechanics are terrible. It will be a long year.
ReplyDeleteShiz. I look at Alumni and think how great a Fri night would be there now. I have a career and a family now...plus I live in WI.
