In-game comments post: Wake Forest

Wake games often bring out some nail biting moments. I hope today is different. We need the offense to step up and I think they can and will.

  1. Hard to believe we are at the half-way mark of the season and we are already talking about must-wins. But this is a must win if BC has any hopes for a bowl game.

  2. Any crowd updates?

    ReplyDelete
  3. "The Nation's #1 defense." Love the sound of that.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Crowd is horrible. Local alumni suck.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Nice run by Walker. I don't like the all maroon uniforms.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Another drive-killing penalty. Cannot have receivers false starting.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Terrible start. This is in part because of the QB nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  8. As fun as the defense is to watch, it is that much painful to watch the offense.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Can't run on these Eagles!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Good start for the D...of course Alston made the return interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  11. #58 got whipped on that Rouse run.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I hope Smith comes in next. Even with a few first downs, the D is not respecting Flutie and it cripples the run game.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wow, Texas just beat OU.

    ReplyDelete
  14. That was Alston's best return this year.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Outlow has got to hit the holes faster.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Darn, if Smith could throw, that would have been a TD.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Great job by Callinan for adjusting.

    ReplyDelete
  18. What a wasted drive. Smith played well.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Kicking game is going to give me a coronary. It's cost us 6 games over the past 2 years.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Smith moved the ball, but that horrible throw cost us a TD.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jesus. 4 down territory in the red zone now. Never again.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Uh oh. Kudos to Wake for that call. Salt in the wound.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think the BC defense is very, very vulnerable to the deep ball. I'm surprised more teams don't pass on this defense. You can't run on them so I don't know why teams insist on trying.

    ReplyDelete
  24. How is that receiver that wide open? They need to start blitzing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. This is an ugly game.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is an ugly game.

    ReplyDelete
  27. At least the Wake kicker looks as bad as BCs.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like this Gowins kid.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Gowins looks good so far.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Alston is killing BC this year. That INT is all on him.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That wasn't Smith's fault. That's on Alston.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Comically bad. Smith has actually looked decent passing. Too bad his receivers are awful.

    ReplyDelete
  33. What a great defensive play. Johnson and Strachan.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why couldn't have Smith tried that pass? This is just stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm not sure about having Howell kick with a quad injury. Field position may decide this game.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Let the QB carousel continue.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I can't tell if the BC defense is very good, or if the offenses we have faced are plain atrocious.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Our offensive line just can't do it. By far our biggest problem. Makes everybody else look worse than they probably are.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think Wake only has 1 yard rushing so far.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I want to see Smith on this drive.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Correction, 4 yards. That's insane!

    ReplyDelete
  42. ATL, I don't know how you can say one QB is better than the other. They both can't move the offense.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Gowins looking like Andre Williams

    ReplyDelete
  44. O-line has got to give BC a fighting chance.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Flutie held it too long.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Don't like the feel of this game. We need the defense to score. Any bowl chance disolves if we lose this game.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sacked on a 4 man rush. Just sad.

    ReplyDelete
  48. ATL, Flutie had no time to get set. #74 whiffed his block. You'll see it on the 2nd viewing.

    ReplyDelete
  49. We better not sit on it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Guaranteed BC will.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Clawson knows how to use the clock and timeouts.

    ReplyDelete
  52. If they were planning to do that, why bother taking a timeout?

    ReplyDelete
  53. No QB could move this offense with this offensive line.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Gonna give Wake good field position with decent time left now.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Just 89 total yards for the Wake offense. Only 11 on the ground. If I were Wake, I would pass nearly every down. I really think BC is vulnerable to the pass.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Heh Daz promised even more base football. Be on the look for A bunch of R-R-R-P this half. Wake should do the quick 5 yard passes like Duke did. They hit a few quick slants in the first half.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm impressed with Gowins for not losing the ball on some of those hits. True freshman facing 9 defenders in the box.

I don't know if we have ever had an offense this limited, and I have been a fan for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Addazio highly critical of the missed blocks at the halftime interview with St. Pierre.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Big Jack, the BC offense under Shinskie was pretty bad.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Addazio has to pick one of these guys to be the quarterback and go with it. The unit is confused and cannot get any consistency. I don't know who he goes with as they both are very bad, but just pick one and ride them.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Not sure where the anti-Flutie bias on the part of ATL comes from. Did Flutie's uncle cost him a bet years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Good first defensive stand.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Wow - you have to question Addazio on this.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Game over. First team that scores wins. Might be the only team that scores. Bullshit for the defense.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Now we ask the D to save us again.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Well that's the game.

    ReplyDelete
  67. This is a horrible head coaching job. Why would we burn Gowins' redshirt? Does he really believe Outlow and Rouse are the issue?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Smith...Flutie...I don't care. Just score some points.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I can't believe we are going to lose 2 games in a row with the opponent not getting in the endzone. Amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  70. NESN just went dark here in roughly central Mass. (Comcast country). Mercy rule, perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Now that was on Smith. Stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think I'm going to watch the defense and then switch channels when the offense takes the field.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Someone please tell Daz that Smith is not Murphy. If he thinks the kid can run (he can't, lacks vision), then make him a RB and let the QB be someone who can throw the GD ball.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I can't believe that BC was a 9.5 point favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Wake is setting us up for the deep ball.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Go for a punt block now.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Taking late hits might be our best offense.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Willis is not 100%. Still recovering from mono.

    ReplyDelete
  79. #74 is having a terrible game.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Christ, put Knoll back in. We almost have to go for it on 4th downs now.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Fail. Fail. Fail.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Why are they kicking a fg?! And if you're going to kick you should have centered the damn ball on third down. This guy clearly can't kick from the hash.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Again, that drive was killed by Bowen's false start. The O-line needs to be more disciplined.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Am I crazy to think we are still going to win?

    ReplyDelete
  85. With a whole lot of luck:

    Quick Lane Bowl
ACC/Notre Dame vs. Big Ten Ford Field
    Detroit, MI Mon., Dec. 28
    5:00pm ET

    ReplyDelete
  86. You are definitely crazy. First team that scores always wins in this series.

    ReplyDelete
  87. ATL, only way we win is with a Pick 6. Offense has only scored 1 touchdown in 8 quarters.

Another false start kills a drive. Execution by the O-line is horrible. They need to apologize to the defense.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Wake's punter is the MVP of this game.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Wake up to 7 yards rushing. Gowins' mistake may be the difference in this contest.

    ReplyDelete
  90. There is the "veteran" QB...changing the play with no time.

    ReplyDelete
  91. And in goes Flutie again. Why? Just why?

    ReplyDelete
  92. As with last week, that timeout is going to cost BC. You absolutely must not burn timeouts in close games. You just cannot do it.

    ReplyDelete
  93. And there goes a TO. Smooth move.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Yeah, Flutie needs to realize the game situation and not change plays inside 10 seconds.

    ReplyDelete
  95. The refs are making up for last week.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Do we go for it on 4th down if we don't convert here?

Just 1 touchdown in the last 8 quarters.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Wake is just going to keep killing clock.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Desperately need a Pick 6 but I don't know that Clawson will put the ball in the air.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Should have gone for it. Might not have that good of field position again.

    ReplyDelete
  100. The refs are killing Wake.

    ReplyDelete
  101. This should be a four down territory.

    ReplyDelete
  102. We now need Kuechly super man leap for a safety.

    ReplyDelete
  103. So much time wasted away. Had to use a timeout there.

    ReplyDelete
  104. We need this to go our way.

    ReplyDelete
  105. That was definitely a catch. Unbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Maybe not. Definite bobble.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Good one Flutie. What a fucking joke. Why the hell is he back in?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  108. This might be one of the worst coached BC games I've every seen.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Worst offensive performance in BC history. Getting shut out by FSU is one thing. But Wake Forest? 4 turnovers against a defense that hadn't generated a turnover this season. Pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Why put Flutie in to run that play? That was total over thinking. We were running on them.

    ReplyDelete
  111. QB sneak with the running QB out of game. Nice Daz.

    ReplyDelete
  112. That burned timeout with Flutie bit them in the ass as well.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Could have handed it off but let a TO prone QB handle the ball instead.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Losing to Wake at home. Never acceptable. Even with HS QBs playing.

    ReplyDelete
  115. They better run this in, cuz I don't think I can handle it coming down to a FG to tie.....

    ReplyDelete
  116. Daz, bring Flutie back in to let him redeem himself.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Are you fucking serious?!

    ReplyDelete
  118. What the fuck clock management was that?!?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  119. I can not believe the last five minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Worst coaching I have ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Unbelievable. That was pathetic. This loss was on coaching staff more than anything.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I'm just barfing. There is barf everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I'm fully onboard the "Fire Daz" bandwagon
    Now.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Anyone still think a-spazio is the answer?

    ReplyDelete
  125. I had a number of Florida fans laugh at our hire of daz. Now I know what was so funny.

    Hockey season is here!

    ReplyDelete
  126. If you Google "kick in the nuts" it would show video of the last 5 minutes of this game. Daz better get some frozen peas on the way home.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Bright side: the kicking game is no longer our biggest problem.

    ReplyDelete
  128. #Dazaster

    1. 5th grade football teams have better offenses
    2. I am sure Jim Harbaugh will have a hard time in his 3rd year completing a pass, kicking a FG or making a first down
    3. There is now 4.5 years of head coaching tape on Daz. What a joke. ESPN3 here you come.
    4. Hire Doug Flutie as coach or this guy

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/sports/wp/2015/08/13/the-highly-successful-high-school-coach-who-never-punts-has-another-radical-idea/
    5. I feel sorry for current students & season tix holders
    6. Thanks Brad Bates

    ReplyDelete
  129. I still like him, but he, the offensive coaches and the special teams coaches need to apologize to the defense.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Technically we've been in position to win every game so far. I'm chalking this up to growing pains.

Now I'm gonna go barf some more.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Worst game I have ever been to. This team is pathetic. There was no Division 1 talent in the field.

10 year season ticket holder. There won't be an 11th. This is just a waste of time.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Growing pains? Seriously?! Fucking up a game that much in the last 5 minutes is growing pains?! It's 100% coaching. Daz seriously F'd up putting in Flutie on that QB sneak and he was gift-wrapped a second chance. And he screwed that up even more! Daz probably took the most bone-headed coaching move of all time from Carroll now.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I still like him, but he, the offensive coaches and the special teams coaches need to apologize to the defense.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Not sure if Daz watched the pinstripe bowl last year but I did and the biggest issue was kicking. How is this not addressed?

    ReplyDelete
  135. 7. That was a Top 3 most fascinating BC game I have ever watched. What a car wreck.
    8. TOB would have won last week and this week and I can't believe I actually complimented TOB.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Was it Daz's fault that we turned the ball over 4 times and missed 1-2 gimme field goals?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes. He is the head coach. It is his job to instill discipline in his players. It was also priority #1 to fix the kicking game after last year. I'm not on the "Fire Daz" bandwagon yet, but make no mistake, this loss is squarely on him.

      Delete
  137. It was Daz's fault that he put Flutie in for the sneak. It also his fault that they ran it with 20 seconds and no timeouts!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Winning or losing that game just doesn't change the bigger picture. It just doesn't.

    ReplyDelete
  139. He should have made a play to the middle of the field on Flutie's sneak. I know because of the fumble it didn't matter, but the point is that a kicker with shaky confidence was looking at a narrow sleeve because it was so close in.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  141. I'm starting to think that maybe football just doesn't work at BC. There is 0 talent on this team. There might be less on Wake Forest.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Yes. Daz needs a clinic. But offensively we are bereft of talent. On Daz too. I'm less angry about losing a relatively meaningless game and more upset about the lack of depth.

I remember Daz saying something like 60 of the 85 are underclassmen. You just can't fire somebody when u lose a couple of games-he deserves 4 yrs. Especially after Spaz.

Clearly time to get Coach Frye to return to O-Line duties. He should never again all plays for BC,or switch QBs either. My wife was stunned at their clock management.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Does he not get credit for the defense? Not being contrarian but holy schnizzle. He is the head coach. On both sides.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. True, but his specialty happens to be on the offensive side. He WAS Tim Tebow's OC after all....

      Delete
  145. Instead of passing on third and long before the 26 yard miss, they should have just centered the ball in the middle of the field too. The kicker already missed from the left hash.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Not sure if Daz watched the pinstripe bowl last year but I did and the biggest issue was kicking. How is this not addressed?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Long time season ticket holder and my perspective goes back to late 50's...no special order to these but just my thoughts:
    `
    - We have an inexperienced offensive line
    - 2 backup young quarterbacks handing off to
    - young, inexperienced backup running backs
    - a young inexperienced field goal kicker
    - unproven receivers
These factors determine the types of plays you can run and the offensive schemes you use.Venting and bashing does not change that. These are painful growing pains. You encourage;re-coach and re-evaluate.You work on team building and a "we are in this together mentality" and re-assure players that you value them and have confidence that they can get better. You develop positive leadership and root out
negative leaders. You remind them of past success; our rich football tradition and how good it will feel when they put it all together.

  149. Daz is that you? Quite heavy in the inexperience excuse. The coaching and overall game management though was stellar right?
