It is going to be wet against Wake

Despite the Hurricane scares, I don't foresee ESPN or the ACC rescheduling the BC-Wake game. I think we can play in bad weather, but given our talent advantage, a slick sloppy night helps them more than it helps us.

Going forward with the game is irresponsible. The entire region is under a declared state of emergency, which restricts unnecessary travel. The coastal regions are under mandatory evacuation orders. A Category 4 hurricane packs winds in excess of 100mph.

Even though the site of the game is 200 miles inland, up to 20 inches of rain is predicted, which will cause flooding, including flash flooding. A college football game does not warrant the risk taking involved in the face of this potentially catastrophic storm.

Getting to the Wake Forest site by air is in question...getting back to Boston even more so.

The simplest solution would be to shift the venue to Alumni Stadium. Arrive at an equitable distribution of the revenues. If that won't do, then postpone the game to another week, later in the season.

Eagle in Atlanta has no freaking clue. This game is not going to be played on Thursday night. No way.

Playing the game - if they could even get there - would be nuts. Even minor hurricanes, and this one is a whopper, wreak havoc on the weather in a wide area. Wake Forest will almost certainly have severe weather as a result of Florence, if the path is anywhere near where it's projected to be. It's supposed to be at hurricane strength even after landfall. Crazy.

ATL, you're crazy. Even if the game is managed to be played, can you imagine how dangerous it will be for the fans (if there are any) to travel home as the storm intensifies? Playing this game is pure reckless folly.

This looks to be a very tough storm for the coast, but current forecast for W-S supports Bill's view. BC might need to use Charlotte airport, but they'll play if this local forecast holds.

Pffft. You play the game. ESPN has too much money invested in Thursday night football to go doing something irresponsible like canceling the game. That’s 3.5 hours of givebacks if you cancel.
People will be fine. Wake students can walk home. BC can hunker down in a hotel with generators and Skype into any classes they have to attend. ESPN can commandeer a C-130 for its people to head out after the game, in exchange for a couple of patriotism spots for the Army.

This game will be played, 100%. Money talks. No viable alternative to reschedule. You can’t just cancel a conference game

No way anything is going down in NC... no transportation for the team to return to Boston. State is shutting down.

No need to reschedule- just play the game at Alumni Stadium! As I posted on TOS, there is precedent for this- in 2005 ASU and LSU moved their game from Baton Rouge to Tempe due to Katrina. ASU donated a portion of the unexpected gate revenue to Katrina relief efforts.

That was a little different. That LSU-ASU game occurred on September 10. Katrina struck Louisiana on August 29. The game was moved because Death Valley was being used as a place of refuge. This situation would involve a team being stranded in Boston for several days while their loved ones are battling one of the worst natural disasters in US History. I bet the Wake players and coaches would forfeit before leaving their families during such a crisis.

BC needs to act in the best interests of its students and employees - their safety supersedes everything else regardless of what Wake or the ACC or anyone else decides. BC is travelling into this mess - Wake isn't. They should make a decision on this tonight.

This is very tough. The issue is that the storm is expected to make landfall on the coast of NC/SC in the late hours Thursday. Wake is 200 miles inland. However, this is a huge storm and so at the very least there will be rain and relatively high winds at kickoff. By the time the game finishes (around 11pm), it will have gotten worse. You then have to factor in people getting home from the game (could be ok, but dangerous none the less) and then getting the BC team out of there. Will all come down to timing, which is very hard to predict. The storm is moving slowly. I actually think the Saturday games are easier to predict - they will be cancelled. The BC/Wake game is difficult because its right on the front-end of the storm.

Only a school whose mascot is an oxymoron would wait until the last minute to decide whether or not mkae their opponent travel 700 miles into an on coming hurricane. They are idiots who think we are going to back out first. Fuck them.

Putting aside weather & safety for everyone and I'm not suggesting whether they should play or not -- for football reasons it would stink to cancel. For BC.

BC is matching up with Wake at the right time. They have injuries and a QB suspension. We are playing well, rested, and still healthy. If we reschedule later in the year Wake could be a much tougher team to match up with.

In addition, our starters really haven't played much. We still need to build some stamina and rhythm. Not a very good time for a bye week before Purdue. At least Purdue is a non-conference game, though.

Who makes the call ultimately? The host school? The ACC? The travelling school? All the above?

People are commenting that game is going to be moved to Noon kick. Makes total sense, game can be played and BC can be on charter plane out of N.C. by 5pm which is plenty of time. ESPN can air game at Noon and then reply on another station at 730

Wait until the lightening delays start. They will finish this game maybe by the following Thursday.
At least the boys will be hunkered down in a concrete stadium for a week or so. Bring your books boys and search lights to study.
