I'm able to see the game on Mediacom. BC is doing a great job mixing the run and the pass. Ryan is off today, but he has plenty of time to get back on track.
Defense looks great. UMASS is a very capable opponent, so we are being challenged today. I think this kind of game will help us going back into conference play
I had a weird thought that maybe BC should have taken a safety on the punt. I still think it was right to punt away, but UMASS scored fast and we now have a ball game.
The o-line has to improve... we ought to be able to smash the ball down their throat. Every time I see "incomplete pass down the middle" I worry that the offense is getting predictable and reliant on the spread sets that cannot finish games.
I would like to see them at least play one series like the way they finished off GaTech.
Nice response by AC. As for the illegal formation, something is clearly off with the refs. The guys usually check with the refs and the refs are not giving them the checks. Very weird.
Still it is hard to gauge how good this team is. Are they a legitimate Top 10 team? To struggle against a 1-AA team cannot look good nationally. On the other hand, perhaps UMASS is a team that could give a lot of D-1 teams fits. And, this is a rivalry game for UMASS so they are always going to bring their A game against BC.
I personally feel this is a good team, but not a great team. I think they are definitely Top 15, but there are at least 10 teams better than BC and we are a step slower than the elite teams.
Meanwhile, DO NOT look past Bowling Green. MAC teams have given us problems over the years and they are currently leading their division. What do others think? Is BC a Top 10 team?
So many top 10 teams are falling (WV, Oklahoma, with Cal, Rutgers, Texas on the ropes) I think we are a de-facto top 10 program, though our quality of play leaves me uneasy with this distinction.
I hate to say it, but I really think this game was a product of BC playing down to their opponent juxtaposed with UMass playing with a chip on their shoulder. Today's performance does not befit a top 10 team, but I can't judge the Eagles on this alone. They've risen to the occasion thus far in big games, and until they fail to do so (ie VT , Clemson), they are a consummate top 10 in my mind.
espn and comcast sucks.....
ReplyDeleteThis is awful. I cannot get in either. The ACC really needs to put pressure on ESPN360 to expand access. This is more limiting than ACC Select.
ReplyDeleteconsider yourself lucky....i'm in Hong Kong listening in to WEEI AM....wish I could get ESPN 360
ReplyDeleteBill, I have to say Cronin and Meter are doing a decent job on WEEI.
ReplyDeleteyes, they do a very nice job....much better than the two guys last week on ESPNU
ReplyDeleteThe defense sounds like it is playing well.
ReplyDeleteNice to see Thompson back in the action.
ReplyDeleteHa! Bill, I thought I was the only yahoo alum staying half the night listening to the Eagles.
ReplyDeleteI'm over here in Manila. Listening in on EEI & have the ESPN Gamecast (although it's always slow in updating)
Finally some pressure from the front seven.

Just as I say Ryan is off, he all of a sudden gets hot. I don't think he has missed a pass on this drive.
ReplyDeleteA thing of beauty: the drive, the playcalling mix, the TD pass. BC is finally playing up to the standards everyone knows at which it can play.
ReplyDeleteHey, Tribble finally returns one.

ReplyDeleteCherilus has got to stop with the penalties.
ReplyDeleteTime to get a little nervous now.
ReplyDeleteBC got a huge break. There is no question Purvis caught the ball and then fumbled. The ESPN 360 guys were shocked that the call was reversed.
ReplyDeleteI can remember years where we did not get the calls but it seems like we are getting them this year.
Credit UMASS for making great adjustments at half as they have forced BC to punt 3 times.
ReplyDeleteThese refs are clueless.
ReplyDeleteProbably a good thing I'm not watching.
ReplyDeleteLogan needs to go back to the underneath passing that worked so well against Army.
ReplyDeleteI'm not nrevous yet but I would like to see one more score.
OK, now I'm nervous
ReplyDelete17-14. I think I am going to be sick.
ReplyDeleteYikes..I just got a text saying it was 17-14...WEEI isn't letting me in...this blows
ReplyDeleteHow hard is it to get 7 men on the line of scrimmage? That is 4th time they have been called on this!

ReplyDelete5.1 yards per attempt is also unacceptable. Even for Thaddeus Lewis and Duke.
ReplyDeleteWhew....a little breathing room.
ReplyDeleteI can see why these guys are ranked #2 in their division. I don't think we will see Chris Crane today.
Let's hold 'em defense!
What is it with BC's defense and backup QBs?
ReplyDeleteFor those of you not getting audio or 360, UMASS just missed a long field goal after a very impressive drive. Score is 24-14. Under 8 minutes to play.
ReplyDeleteBC goes to 5-0 for the first time since 1954!

well said, eagle in Brighton.
ReplyDeleteGo eagles!
