In-game comments post: Virginia Tech

Are you ready? We have big things ahead but we need to take it one step at a time. Tonight is a huge step. WE ARE BC!!

Since the game is on TV, I will not be online during the broadcast. Leave your comments and thoughts below.

  1. I think the term "beamer-ball" actually refers to the football that somehow lodged itself into the side of frank beamer's neck/face. what the hell is that thing?

    ReplyDelete
  2. He was burned as a child or young adult.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I didn't like the way Brooks waived off Coach Jags after he spoke to the young man following his stupid penalty.

Sit him down for the game, as far as I'm concerned.

    ReplyDelete
  4. BC needs to blitz at least 6 guys. They are giving Glennon way too much time to pass. They need to rattle him and hope for some turnovers.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I said yesterday that Ayers needs to have big time game for BC and he has responded. Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  6. OK guys, Va Tech has studied the film. Abandon the screen play.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Any idea what we ca do offensively? This rain is killing our passing game.

    ReplyDelete
  8. This zone defense is terrible. For the love of God Spaz, put some pressure on Glennon and make him make mistakes like last year!

    ReplyDelete
  9. That was way too much time to throw for Glennon on 3rd and 7. Right now, Glennon is playing better than Ryan, but it is early and BC always starts slow.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Is everyone stumped on my offense question? I gotta admit, I'm glad I am not the O Coordinator. It seems like the tight end pass has worked and that is about it. I can tell right now, we'll be lucky to get out of here alive. Bill needs to get his whale pants on and we need to conjure up the ghost of Matt Ryan vs. Wake Forest circa 2005.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Another 3 man rush=another first down. Can Spaz really be this clueless?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Another stupid, undisciplined penalty. This does not look good for BC at all.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Tough penalty - stupid. Why can't players just be satisfied with a good play?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Make your plays and shut the f*&^ up. I hate players that have to showboat. Now Va tech is going to score and the way our offense is playing, we may never catch up. God, I despise showboaters!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I disagree. That call boggles the mind. Let the kid have some fun after a great defensive play. What is this the No Fun League?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Offensive pass interference

    ReplyDelete
  17. Not only off. pass int. But also beautiful hometown homer calls.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well, we just got screwed. No way was that a touchdown. It's time for the offense to wake up. I know we were way over-ranked, but we should be playing better than this.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Okay boys - let's face down this adversity.

Screw VT - we can win this.

Shitty call - if the ref waived off the td - that would have been upheld as well.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This game has been bought and paid for by VT, from the UNsportsmanlike call to all the no-calls and now that abyssmal TD where the ref who was right in front of it had to talk to a guy who could not see the play and the replay was conlcusive. These refs disgust me, and VT is going to get a sullied win.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Another 3 man rush on third down=a touchdown. Spaz is a damned idiot. God I absolutely hate him. And that call was disgracefully terrible. How in the world can anyone watching that replay confirm that call? It boggles the mind.

    ReplyDelete
  22. We aren't overrated, we are the better team.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Look what the blitz can do against a Heisman contender. Why the hell is Spaz not doing that against an absolute joke that is Sean Glennon? That fool is the Achilles Heel of the BC team.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm starting to agree that Cherilus is way overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thankfully we are a second half team...let's keep this close and Jags will adjust during halftime and Matty Ice will prove he belongs as a Heisman winner

    ReplyDelete
  26. dougbushbc: I hope you are right. But right now, their offense is moving the ball and our offense looks atrocious. Although we totally got screwed on that TD call.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Get Loyte out of this game. He's not ready for prime time.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'd rather have Loyte on my team than Spaz. That man cannot make a game-to-game adjustment or an in-game adjustment to save his life.

    ReplyDelete
  29. C'mon guys. We need to score here!

    ReplyDelete
  30. That a-way defense!

    Now let's score offense!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Another terrible, undisciplined penalty wipes out yet another drive. Matt Ryan looks awful today. This is his worst game maybe ever.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Seriously, does our offensive line know there is a game going on?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm disappointed but not giving up.

I must admit - this is not good.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Nice to see Apon cost BC more points because of his inability to kick.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wow - what a disappointing half.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You can't really blame sid viscious, we needed to recruit a new kicker, and billy bennett failed miserably.

    ReplyDelete
  37. This game should be 3-3. It is only 7-0. We can do this. Go BC

    ReplyDelete
  38. Maybe Smith will give us a good runback to start the 2nd half.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Not looking good, but not giving up. However, we need a LEVEL field to pull this one off. VT's defense looks good. That, the rain and our O-line seem to be doing us in. Matt Ryan is going to have to earn it in the second half. Please god, make the rain stop, and give the head referee some type of violent illness.

    ReplyDelete
  40. How can you say Billy Bennett failed when he has never been given a chance to placekick? Jags need to at least try him out on the FGs. In high school, the guy put 50+ yard field goals easily through the uprights.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'd like to see us win by 10 points, but I'll take 14 to 10 or 10 - 7 for all I care. No one will remeber the score - just the W.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, we just played the worst half of football this season and we are only down 7 so I still have hope. I think it is very clear right now that we are not the second best team in the land and we need to temper our expectations. We were never going to be a national title team but we can win the ACC. Thus, we need to come out in the 2nd half and score some points. You cannot blame our defense. They did their job. But, this offense needs to get in gear or the Ryan for Heisman site will be dismantled at 10:45 EDT.

    ReplyDelete
  43. BravesBill, you are right, he hasn't been given game chances, but I can only imagine if the staff doesn't have faith that apon can kick a 29 yard field goal, they would have tried bennett out, if they felt he could do it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I do not blame the defense, they are playing well with the plays and formations they are given. The blame falls squarely on Spaz who refuses to blitz Glennon. Spaz has utilized this defense all year and QBs have shredded the BC secondary every game, but yet it seems like Spaz is oblivious to all of this. Blitz Glennon and force him into making mistakes. When BC actually did send more than 3 rushers, Glennon failed to do anything.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I know we are all worked up right now, but you can't forget that it is raining. Yes VTech is responding to the rain better, but the rain is still the only reason we are losing this game. You can argue the TD call all you want, but think of it this way...if you were a VTech fan and they overturned that call you would be just as pissed. Yeah, it sucks that it was called a TD on the field, but it was certainly close enough that you can't blame a ref for making that call. I am not sure on the super slow replay what I would call it. If the rain dies down, or BC adjusts to it at all, we will win this game with a great second half.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Stephen - that was not a TD. Get serious dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Let's be up font here, if BC loses this game, Ryan's Heisman hopes are toast. Voters will look at his play in big time games, Wake Forest and Miami last year and Va Tech this year and say he laid an egg in every opportunity. If he comes out in the 2nd half and leads BC to victory, he is the front runner in my mind. I'm hoping for the best, but I also know BC fans have had nothing but disappointment when it comes to getting to the elite level. Maybe 9-3 and the crappycomputer.com bowl is the best we can do. Maybe TOB was right. No. No! I refuse to believe that. We're gonna win this game. We're gonna come back! Go BC!

    ReplyDelete
  48. What a wonderful start to the second half. ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It looks like he caught it. Gosh darn it and we were finally moving the ball. I think you are right Bravesbill, Spaz needs to start blitzing. They are blitzing our "Heisman" QB every down and we are completely flustered. The BC defense needs to copy Bud Foster.

    ReplyDelete
  50. We blitz then and we get the sack. That's the way to do it!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Haha. Look at that. Spaz rushes 5 and BC gets a sack. Now was it really that hard Spaz?

    ReplyDelete
  52. How do you not run to the sticks on 3rd down! I'm dumbfounded.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The pass protection does look a lot better.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Did I miss the memo that TOB was the guest coach this week?

    ReplyDelete
  55. At least he didn't bring Dana "Draw Play" Bible back for the game.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Is Ryan telegraphing his passes? Va Tech has been jumping his routes all game.

    ReplyDelete
  57. So shushing the crowd is unsportsmanlike, but waving them up isnt.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Gotta love the non-blitz defenses giving up huge plays AGAIN.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Dougbushbc: You still think we are the better team? A two-bit QB named Glennon is making Ryan look silly. We are a Top 15 team, no better.

    ReplyDelete
  60. We are better, we aren't utilizing the talent and ability we have. Spaz is blowing the defense and our oline is drunk.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Dougbushbc: I still think we are over-ranked. Do you honestly believe after watching this that BC is a legitimate #2? If I'm LSU, I'm lookng at this performance and wondering how BC is ranked ahead of me considering that LSU smoked these guys, and Va Tech was at full strength with their star linebackers.

    ReplyDelete
  62. <3 the refs. really really love the refs

    ReplyDelete
  63. That interference call was total BS! Come on for goodness sake! We gotta catch a break.

    ReplyDelete
  64. TD call...Bullshit.

    Pass Interference Call...Bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wow, BC is being screwed this game. Absolutely screwed. Va Tech should have 3 points at the most right now, not 10.

    ReplyDelete
  66. This game is far from over. We're remarkably still in this despite the futile effort from the offense. GO BC!

    ReplyDelete
  67. 10 pts. that shouldn't be on the board.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Can we come back from 10 down? We were down 14 to Wake, but Va Tech is much, much better than Wake

Oh well, if we can hold off Wake, we might get another shot at Va Tech on December 1st.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Seriously, we need some bubble screens and draw plays. We need a sustained drive right now.

    ReplyDelete

  71. What is jags/logan doing trying to leave castanza single against ellis, and also, WHAT THE FUCK are we doing with discipline.

    ReplyDelete
  72. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Im sorry did we trade Oline with Indiana Catholic?

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'm conceding defeat. This is just not our night. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Back to mediocrity city.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Wow is VT's defense this good or are we THAT overrated? Very disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Gooooood bye Heisman, Good bye top QB, love you matty ice, but you have sucked it up tonite

    ReplyDelete
  77. Ridiculous roughing the kicker call.
Kid must be a theatre arts major.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I believe we are that overrated. Spaz can take a lesson from Va Tech's defensive coordinator and blitz every damned play.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Ryan is not even close to hitting his receivers. These are passes that even Sean Glennon should complete.

    ReplyDelete
  80. What did I get sucked in again by BC? Dreamer, such a silly dreamer!

    ReplyDelete
  81. I've got a feeling that everyone is holding their breath-- on both sides. It's still reasonably close, but any BIG play from either side could unleash some major momentum.

    ReplyDelete
  82. This game is over. Good night all. Even the vaunted rush defense failed to show up tonight. That rush defense is so great statistically because teams do not even bother to run against us, seeing as how the pass defense gives up about 300 yards a game.

    ReplyDelete
  83. You can't blame our defense. They are getting tired.

    ReplyDelete
  84. They are getting tired because they haven't made the big play all game, they let up every play VaTech wants.

    ReplyDelete
  85. It's been nice but deep down I think I always knew this would end in this manner. We've all seen BC lay an egg when it really matters. I just wish we could lose respectably and give them a hard fought game. I hate listening to the ESPN announcers confirm what most the the country feels, that BC is a paper tiger. I so very much wanted this to be our dream season.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Geez, the refs did not call late hit on that play?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Oh my god. A complete pass.

    ReplyDelete
  88. He completed a pass!!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. OK, I know I conceded defeat, but I am a neurotic mess. We are only down 10. There is plenty of time left. Our defense, despite being on the field all game, has only given up 10 points. I think we still have a shot.

    ReplyDelete
  90. This is just getting hilarious. Yet another penalty to kill a drive. This is ridiculous. Anyone with eyes could see this performance coming if they watched the ND game.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Cherilus strikes again! Has Henry Hill gotten to him?

23 penalties in 2 games. Ouch!

    ReplyDelete
  92. All week it's been "can't turn the ball over." Well, no turnovers, but stupid penalties are killing BC.

This O line is killing us tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Sheesh....Ryan looks awful. Has anyone ever seen him look this bad?

    ReplyDelete
  94. For the love of God, at least let the Rockies win tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'm going to go glass half full here. Jags said he likes to be the hunter and not the hunted. A loss here drops us back to about 12 or 15. The team gets a little mad and we start to get on a roll. We beat FSU at home and then somehow come out unscathed on the road against Clemson and Maryland. Miami has our number so we know they beat us again. That leaves us 10-2. I'm betting Wake loses one more game. If we tie, we go to the championship game. Va Tech wins the Coastal and we have a rematch in J-ville on a neutral field. I think we win the rematch.

By the way, I blame this loss on the fact that New England is 25 years behind the time and all of the karma is with the Red Sox and not with the Eagles when the rest of the country knows college football is the sport of the 21st century.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Pleeeeze... don't let us get blanked when we're ranked #2 on national television. I mean there are dozens of potential recruits watching this game. No one will take us seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  97. njeagle: Yes, Ryan looked this bad against NC State, Wake and Miami last year. Now, against Va Tech, he lays another egg. He's not a big game player.

    ReplyDelete
  98. The rush defense is severely overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  99. To be fair, New England has had a pretty fair shake of things to start this century.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Ryan for Heisman website....time of death... 9:45 CDT.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Nice throw Matt Ryan. The Ryan for Heisman website officially closes at 10:42 pm. Way to look down your receiver the entire play.

    ReplyDelete
  102. The curse of the #2 ranking lives on. Oh well, in pre-season, I thought we would have 2 losses by now and we only have 1 so we're better than I thought we would be. At least the pressure is off now and we can focus on winning the Atlantic division. The scary thing is we could lose all 4 of our remaining games and then we are back to Boise! But, I'm going to predict we only lose one more game and finish 10-2.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Screw New England. Most bizarre lack of college sports support anywhere in the country.

Most Massholes go out of their way to spit on BC - even though they didn't go to another Division 1 school.

I guess they're burning all their fandom on that vaunted Bates Women's fencing team.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Come on fellas!!! SCORE!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Well, at least we are not shut out. But we have to get the onside kick.

They better count this TD. This is more certain than the Va Tech TD

    ReplyDelete
  106. I bet anyone money that the TD gets reversed.

    ReplyDelete
  107. On side kick? I would. You got nothing to lose

    ReplyDelete
  108. BC should be winning this game 7-3. Nice job refs.

    ReplyDelete
  109. The entire game was balanced atop the apex of a pyramid. Any big play will set this off. That TD drive could be the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Jags and Company got out-coached in this game. Why do you leave Costanzo one-on-one vs. Ellis?

However, in my book, the score is 7-3 as that Va Tech TD was bullshit.

We need to onside kick it here. I disagree with the announcers

    ReplyDelete
  111. Do I know how to call a game or what?

    ReplyDelete
  112. oh my god. Pleeze....Pleeeze....Pleeeze

    ReplyDelete
  113. Sloppy play on behalf of VT could do them in.

    ReplyDelete
  114. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Another damned hold! What the hell is Ryan doing?! Stay in the pocket!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Well, I'll be damned.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Ryan for Heisman site....resusitated 10:10 CST

    ReplyDelete
  118. I take back everything I said! Holy Shit!!! Ryan is right back in the Heisman Race!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  119. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  120. What's the over/under on "you've got to play 60 minutes of football" cliches?

    ReplyDelete
  121. Ryan puking on national television! Beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  122. The dream continues...

    ReplyDelete
  123. Anonymous11:14 PM

Okay we can stop showing The Flutie Pass, Matty Ryan is the real deal.

    EagleBoston what can we say?

    ReplyDelete
  124. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  126. OWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOOWOWOWOWOWOW JESUS LOVES US MORE

    ReplyDelete
  127. HEISMAN IS ALIVE AND WELL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  128. I just woke up my wife with all my yelling...sleeping in the doghouse is worth tonight's win!!

    ReplyDelete
  129. I don't know if the Heisman is necessarily alive, but the fact that it is not dead after tonight should be good enough. Whew, what a game.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Police just stopped by for a noise complaint. Who cares? I'll pay them as much as they want.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Graduated BC last year. Working in Hong Kong now. Its Friday morning here and I just scared everyone in my office by screaming my head off and beating my desk as I watched the SI website that updates once every thirty frickin seconds. GOD BLESS BC!!!

    ReplyDelete
  132. ALEX I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE BC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  133. Well, I was wrong about Matty Ice. But, I am so delighted to be wrong!!!!!! Those last 4 minutes were Heisman minutes. That sealed it in my mind. It took a miracle, but, to quote another crappy 70'song, "I believe in miracles, you sexy thing you!"

By the way, we won 14-3. The Va Tech touchdown was BS.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight. I'm too charged up. That has to rank as one of the Top 5 victories in school history. Most of the nation turned off the TV and went to bed assuming BC lost 10-0. When they find out BC won, they are going to be amazed.

Va Tech had 2 linebackers plus Tyrod Taylor out and we may have to play them again. But, on a neutral site, without rain, I think we can beat Va Tech again if we have to.

However, we still have to take care of business. All 4 of our remaining games are going to be tough. I'm most worried about Clemson on the road and Miami at home. We have not beaten Miami in 23 years! Can this be the year? Still, this was by far on paper the toughest game left and we somehow stole a victory in Blacksburg, so we have a very good shot at winning out. Every championship team has to face adversity and win a game they probably had no shot at winning. This was BC's test, and they passed.

Although Ryan was sensational late, you have to credit the defense for this win. They were on the field the entire game and limited Va Tech to 10 points. I thought they were unbelieveable tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I let my 11-year-old stay up to watch the game.
He was crying early in the fourth quarter.
I dressed him down (tough love), sat him down next to me, and told him it's not over until the final whistle.
Our boys helped me teach an important lesson.

    God, I love this team.
Sure, we might lose one (or more, God forbid) of the last 4 games. But this game ranks among BC's greatest victories. Great season. Keep it going.

    GO EAGLES!!

    ReplyDelete
  136. eagleboston, bravesbill...

God, you guys suck. Just the worst.

    ReplyDelete
  137. @ Darius +1

Their negativity is egregious (and I don't want to hear any of their "we're realists" bullsh*t defenses either)
