HD's getting on the BC bandwagon early

Maybe the media is coming around to BC. Hedging that we might actually be good again, HD ranked BC 5th in her power rankings. I think it seems about right. We have the tools to be 5-3 or better in conference again. She also seems to have a good grasp on our needs and questions. Now let's hope that the respect we have earned doesn't cause some sort of reverse jinx.

  1. Is 5th really jumping on the bandwagon. We gotta hold ourselves to a higher standard than that. I know we're perennially rated in the bottom half before surprising, but for me the bandwagon has to start top three. Ya, we have a shaky QB situation and some graduating lineman, but other than that we don't lose much. Let's not let last year lower our expectations so much that we are happy to be predicted 5th. A move up from the slums to a decent apartment isn't what we want. We want that pretty white mansion in Newton.

  2. We want the ACCCG in Charlotte - that's what we want - and we want to win it against UNC, VT, Miami, GT - we don't care who!!!!!.

As fans, we have to be willing to do whatever it takes to get people to the stadium - fill the place up for these guys.

  3. Good year to be missing 3, 4, and 6 (UNC, Miami, Georgia Tech). We still get our mandatory game with VT, but drawing UVA and Duke is about as easy as it will ever get in the ACC.

I continue to believe that if we can get at least Dilfer-like production out of our QB next year that 2010 will be very special.

  4. OH!

And in a related story, Andre Ware is now predicting a 13th place finish for BC in the ACC.

  5. I agree - I don't think 5th is really hopping on any bandwagon, especially after last year? Is she really going to put us behind Duke, UVA, Maryland, NC State, etc?

Also, I don't get her (or the media generally) love affair with FSU. They had a great offense and an awful defense last year and I don't see Jimbo Fisher changing that. They got some big recruits but that is true every year. I expect them to be in the 7-5/8-4 range again this year.

  6. Well played BCMike. Andre Ware, what a hack.

Any word on the ACC's new TV deal (planning, negotiation, etc.)? With the Pac-10 talking expansion as their television contract also is on the cusp of expiration, any chance we combine for a joint TV deal, or perhaps even a fledgling TV network a la the Big 10?

  7. I don't think this is jumping on the bandwagon at all!!!! I think it's the same old BS!!! We are going to be way better than 5th in the conference! Look at our D! Give me a break! She is a hack.

5-3 would be terrible next year. I would consider it a failure!

  8. I am surprised HD dropped Clemson to 7. If you take these ranking seriously, we should go 6-2 in conference play. If FSU is hype. which i think it is, we could go 7-1. Hell, with our chump OOC schedule, we could be a top 10 team.

Of course this is all hogwash at this point in the year. But fun to think about.

  9. I appreciate the enthusiasm of people on this blog but, taking off the fan title and looking at it realistically and analytically, HD is probably spot on. However, I think any predictions before August are meaningless.

In college football, you cannot hide your quarterback and BC is either going to start a mediocre sophomore QB or a true freshman. Neither scenario is good for BC.

BC still has major problems on the defensive line (and they failed to recruit help this year). We don't have any tackles or ends that can pressure the quarterback placing way too much pressure on our talented linebackers and defensive backs.

I think 5th is right where BC should be, behind Ga Tech, Va Tech, Clemson, and Florida State. The BC schedule is favorable. I will preface this by saying a realistic picture cannot be projected until August (and even then it is still too early), but I see BC going 9-3 overall and 5-3 in conference. Not bad, and anyone that considers this a disappointment probably does not understand the big picture of today's college football environment.

  10. Eagleboston, we are predicted to finish ahead of GTech and Clemson, not behind them.

  11. BC send 4 to the 2010 Olympics

This is great BC news. I hope they bring home the gold for BC and USA!

  13. Right, Gorgias, those were HD's predictions. I am predicting that Ga Tech and Clemson will be ahead of BC.

At any rate, none of this matters. No one can see into the future and the only reason we do this is becuase the first kick-off is 7 long months away.

I'm just hoping for a normal off-season this year with very little drama.

  14. This ranking seems fair. I think its high enough to recognize that we are better than people usually give us credit for but low enough that we can enter the season still running relatively under the radar.

If Shinskie or Rettig light it up in Spring/Summer ball I think we move up 1 spot. If Herzlich, Quinn and the new LBs look good maybe we get 2 spots.

  15. Anybody able to read the McGovern piece on EagleAction? The Tranquill one was free and got me excited about Coleman and Lee in the receiving game. Curious to hear what McG had to say about the redshirt defenders.

  16. If Shinskie lights it up in spring/summer ball..... ok you lost me right there

  17. First word was IF. Just pointing out that a reason HD put us at 5 was cloudiness at QB. In my opinion, IF that cloudiness were to be removed, we would probably move up some.
