In-game comments post: Virginia Tech

Some of the best and worst moments of this blog have come during Virginia Tech games. I hope today's game adds to the best memories! You can commemorate this game with brilliant in-game comments below!

My colleague Dan Silver will be chatting live from the BC press box during the game from the Eagle Insider Chat Room (you enter from the Eagle Insider message boards). He'll have updates on injuries and tell us if he sees any NFL scouts or BC recruits. Dan is still having some issues from his knee surgery, so he will be online but not from the press box.

You can also join discussions on the Eagle Insider Message Boards.

I will be tweeting periodically through the game.

  1. I didn't see any coverage on this game in the Globe Online this morning - unreal.

I'm heading over there to take in the atmosphere.

    Go BC.

  2. Conner O'Neal suspended for violation of team rules for the VT game.

  3. Glad to see the Globe managed to produce something for the suspension. Assclowns...

Hopefully the O-Line is hungry today, literally:

"Shinskie’s so confident in his line’s ability, in fact, he’s willing to put his money where his mouth is.

'I’ll put this on the record: If I don’t get sacked, I’ll take them all to dinner,' he said."

  4. O'Neal is not a huge loss. He's been pretty good but Scafe -- even at less than 100% -- is probably an upgrade.

  5. The Mohawk is back!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Sweet Jesus you could see that coming from a mile away.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Shinskie strikes again...

  8. Bravesbill, shouldn't you be out fighting the homosexual agenda of al skinner supporting muslims?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Come back at me when you make sense harrow.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Only listening on WEEI - how bad was Uncle Dave's INT?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I thought you were a minuteman and had to be on the border today from 12-6.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It was sad. Double coverage. Thrown right to the defender who slipped underneath.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Do you have anything better to do with your life? Glad to see that BC produces human scum like yourself harrow.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Jesus ladies, settle down.

Shinskie stared the receiver down too long. Least his stat line is already ebtter than last year.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Just can't believe you have so much hate and anger in your heart. Whether it is politics or BC sports. You must have really hated BC when you were there and just lived in your room with your observer friends. Ok I got my kicks or getting you wound up, off to the Union League Club for lunch.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You know, I'm a pretty liberal guy, but this is hardly the place.

    GoEagles?

    ReplyDelete
  17. On a sad note did you see a BC Senior got stabbed in the mods last night, very sad.

    ReplyDelete
  18. WOW that toss to Coleman was the ballsy play of tranquill's BC career i think.

    ReplyDelete
  19. At least 6 points have been left on the field now. They have to punch it into the endzone in the second half or they have no chance.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Keuchly Destroy!!

  21. Okay, Im following this game at an internet center down in Mexico. Without undue and trademark Bravesbill anger, can anyone explain to me what happened at the end of the last drive?

Was Lee the featured receiver for a 4 yard pass on 3d and 10, or should I blame Shinskie for that? Additionally, was Freeses FG close? I know hes shown a strong leg this year, but man that kills in the field position battle. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And what in the name of God is happening on 3d and long where Taylor has seemingly completed 5 20+ yard passes.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lee was a checkdown. DB was right on him on a crossing route and tackled him right as he dragged across the middle. Freese wasn't that close. Looked like about the max of his range, too.

    Is Amidou...um, a scholarship player?

Shinskie blew a TD pass on that last drive when he lead the WR out of bounds on the long completion. A little more consistency would be nice, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Need to cash in here!

    ReplyDelete
  25. It looked like Freese had enough distance just pushed it way left. And on third down, BC has been playing that zone coverage we all love and the Tech WRs and TEs have been exploiting the openings.

    ReplyDelete
  26. too bad we can't score on a defensive penalty...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Game has unfolded pretty much how we needed it to, I think...good run game, lots of play-action, not a lot of pressure on Shinskie...defense has been pretty good...

    ReplyDelete
  28. We need a fastball to Swigert.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Now that is a monumentally dumb move by Shinskie...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Unbelievably stupid play. 9 points and counting, 6 of which are due to idiotic mistakes by Shinskie.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Im blaming Dave for ten points.

    ReplyDelete
  32. ... Or at least six. He just isn't doing it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Did anybody see last year's game? He's 10/22 for 125 in one half. All things considered that's quite an improvment.

The INT definitely hurt. BUT if his arm is a half inch longer everyone would be on here talking about what a great play that was.

NEWS FLASH: Matt Ryan is not coming back!!!

Shinskie is the starter and this is a BC board. Crticism is one thing, but hating is completely different. Let's give the guy some support.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Both were terrible decisions Dan. On the INT he tried throwing it into double coverage. And let's not mention that run. That was the worst situational awareness I've ever seen since that Cal-Oregon game a few years ago. I think Pop Warner QBs know to throw the ball away to stop the clock.

    ReplyDelete
  35. And if he broke the goal line you'd say?

Or rather, not you, I think i know what you'd say. What do you think most other people would say?

    ReplyDelete
  36. How do you not at all cover a receiver 40 yards downfield? The safety was nowhere him and Coale wasn't even running hard. Terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  37. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  38. That's not the point Dan. You cannot make stupid decisions like that and expect to win. Even if he did score, that still does not negate how stupid a decision that was. If you're not 1000% sure you are going to score, you cannot take a chance in that situation.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Also, these AACN announcers are terrible? Scafe is not filling in for anyone. It's like they didn't do any research at all.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You can't say "if"... Great players know limitations. Running like that in a defensive battle is a poor decision. BC finally has a trustworthy kicker... Let him kick and get you what he can.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh Herzy man! Oh so close!

    ReplyDelete
  42. The announcers are pretty bad esp. the analyst. He has misidentified a BC player on virtually every play.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Can't get any further down and abandon the run...Shinskie will kill us.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Was it the best decision?

    No

Will it be on the Sportscenter "Not Top 10" this week?

    Probably

My only main point is despite the score, BC is playing a lot better than last year and is still in it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Fuck.

Ok I take full responsibility for that jinx.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm not saying he's playing worse than he did last year. That's pretty impossible. He has played better but his two huge mistakes killed BC. And now the fumble....

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh lord. Bad Shinskie again. Really not happy with his body language out there. He looks like he doesn't want to be there. He completed that pass to Montel while getting creamed. It was actually a very nice play to get that pass off. When Dave stood up, he didn't celebrate at all. He just had that hang-dog look, like he was disappointed that the team gained yards. Sometimes I'm curious as to what's going on in that head of his.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Shinskie, nice.

BC should be playing better. You can't get any more beaten down than we were last yr in Blacksburg. What a standard. Playing better. At home. A year later.

Playing VTech will never be easier.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Shinskie is not as terrible as people think, but he has the uncanny ability to make very bad plays and decisions (fumble). His throwing is consistently behind receivers, which causes plays that could be TDs to be 15 yarders, and others to be INTs.

He's just not quite bad enough to be replaced, but he is the worst QB BC has had since before Glen Foley.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Great stand by the D to hold VT to three. Albright is having a very nice day, as is Scafe. Now just need the offense to remember how to score points.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Jesus, Shinskie is really pathetic now. 2 passes in a row. Time for the hook.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ok, I retract my earlier statements.

    Maybe Kuechly can score.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow. So that happened. I thought Shinskie looked the best I'd seen him a couple weeks ago. This looks like early last season. Does Shinskie give this team the opportunity to win against a talented defense? I don't know. What I do know is that this offense is self-destructing and number 15 is at the center of a lot of it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Okay, it's time to pull him. Just one of those days where he cannot do anything right. If you want a chance to win this dog show, Uncle Dave is going to fold under the pressure.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I got it...

Last year tech stuffed the run and got out in front early. They knew we had to pass, hence dave's terrible numbers.

Today? Montel runs well. They respect the run game... Dave looks better. Now BC's down and needs to throw and Shinskie logs like he did last year.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Unless Marscovetra saves the season, this is going to be a wasted opportunity in a down year for a weak conference.

    Poor defense.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Are these anouncers watching the right game?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Excellent game by defense but O putting them in bad spots. QB cant compete at this level. Time to move on. Beating MAC teams is the best QB can do.

    ReplyDelete
  59. No, Dan, the announcers are not watching the game. Some of the worst announcers I've ever seen.

Let's see if Marsco can hold this offense together. Shinskie shouldn't see the field the rest of the game. And a nice run there by Montel! Great blocking by the line.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Just got back from my son's game. It sounds like out long Chowderhead nightmare continues.

I don't think we can make up 16 points against this team. It took Ryan a miracle to make up 10 points.

    ReplyDelete
  61. No, Dan, the announcers are not watching the game. Some of the worst announcers I've ever seen.

Let's see if Marsco can hold this offense together. Shinskie shouldn't see the field the rest of the game. And a nice run there by Montel! Great blocking by the line.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Well it's been fun watching another meltdown. Have a good day all.

    ReplyDelete
  63. This is a tough situation, Shinskie's best is definitely better than Marsco's best. But once Shinskie hits a rough patch he goes way off the rails.

"Ethan Albright"???? is this guy freaking drunk???

    ReplyDelete
  64. They just are not good, period. We all wear rose colored glasses. We don't have a qb and everything else is avg or above avg at best. Spaz's comments at the half were sad too.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Mark Herzlich is a man-beast! Love it! This defense is really, really good.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Holy Christ a break!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Herzy with the INT!!! Is there still life with this team???

    ReplyDelete
  68. That'll teach Herzy not to return it for a TD!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Harrow, the BC offense is very, very bad. But, the defense appears to be very, very good. What seperates mediocre teams from great teams is that the great teams have consistency from both sides of the ball.

Realistically, though, looking at what BC lost from last year's so-so team and what they brought in, you really could not expect much better than 7-8 wins and some BC fans were crazy with their national title predictions.

    ReplyDelete
  70. the defense is pretty good, i feel bad for them

    ReplyDelete
  71. Don't look now but The Hen's team is letting Ga Tech right back into the game.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm gonna go ahead and put most of this on the O-Line, outside of a a few big holes for Montel. The QBs have not had good protection and we know when Shinskie has time he's good but when he gets hit it goes downhill quick.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Bud Foster is having his dream game. Up 16, he can let the dogs loose and blitz on every play.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Time to burn Rettig's redshirt. Let him play the rest of the year. Let him develop so BC can be decent next year. The future obviously does not include Shinskie anymore. Might as well make this decision now rather than the end of the season so next year is not a total loss either.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Vtech defense got lit up by James madison and east carolina. BC Oline and Harris are better than what those teams have. Problem is Dave is Div. IAA QB. Mars needs full week of practice and to start before you can say he is a bust.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Now that the collective unconscious dream state is finally over, can we start seeing that nothing has changed since Weber State? Our kids had two weeks to prep for a Beamer coached VT team that has our number. Looks like we've been outcoached and outprepped for this game, and our offense still lacks passion & pop. Passing sets up the run ALWAYS--and our kids are not making that happen. Yeah, Shinskie has big problems with checkdowns and he telegraphs his passes, but this all just looks like a predictable, flat, uninspired, whitebread offense from coach to scheme to execution. If not for our D we'd look like we did when Penn State would come in and beat us by 50 every year.

I'm an old guy and have been watching BC play for more than 40 years, and we look like a 2nd or 3rd tier offense in the early '70's. Nice guys back then, too...but where's the ferocity and
fire in this team when we have the ball?

    ReplyDelete
  77. I wish Tate Forcier would transfer to BC

    ReplyDelete
  78. The QB's haven't had time in the second half. Dave had lots of time in the first half.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Where is Mmason today? I could use one of those "drown in my sorrows" margarita.

Well, let's hope we can bounce back and win the Holy War next week. That will make me forget this game in a hurry.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Found my margarita.

Its got a kick return TD, onside recover followed by quick strike TD and a fumble recover TD in it.

    ...and a lot of tequila.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Apparantly N's make an R sound

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well, let's put this in perspective. Both times when Va Tech won the ACCCG, they lost to us in the regular season. I think we can lose 3 ACC games and still potentially make the ACCCG. We have a decent defense. The question is how do we get this offense up to speed so that they can get 5 ACC wins. We can't lose to Fl State, Clemson AND NC State. Must win one of those to have a shot.

By the way, who is "Amadour." Doesn't he mean "Amidon."

    ReplyDelete
  83. As much as I hate the Hokies, we need them to beat NC State next week. The Hen picked up a huge victory this week and he wants nothing more than to beat BC. And it looks like this season, they just might.

    ReplyDelete
  84. With this offense, every game is going to be competitive. We don't have the ability to have a gimme. Please. Counting up wins. Either Marscovetra morphs into something he's not right now, or we'll be teetering on the edge of bowl eligibility at the end of the season. It's the same story for three yrs now.

Shinskie = great arm/bad football brain.

Only took Tranquill a year to throw it to Harris as an outlet. Are there TEs on this roster?

    Onward and upward...

    ReplyDelete
  85. Torture...I'd just like to see a game against a quality opponent where we played like a quality opponent. You know, 4 touchdown drives that actually had a gameplan feel to 'em, and some solid execution, good pass protection, down field blocking, receivers running smart routes and TE's tearing it up inside. I don't see 5 wins in the ACC, do you? I see ND's worst team in history being able to come in here look better than they are, 'cuz that's what we do now.

    ReplyDelete
  86. So much for "O-line U".
What has happened to our guys up front?

That said, Shin has got to go. Get Marsco reps, and burn Rettig's shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Onward and...(Choose one)
    a. awkward
    b. onward
    c. what?
    d. huh?
    e. all of the above
    f. Go Eagles! Beat ND!

    ReplyDelete
  88. The first half was played well enough. The interception in the end zone was a great read and play by the VT defensive back.

I can't fault Shinskie's effort in trying for the TD. He came up inches short. It happens.

The second half was the same old story against VT. Foster made ADJUSTMENTS and shut down our offense.

I suspect Shinskie may have been injured more than was reported.

The late hit after the whistle when VT called time really laid him out. The play or two before the second interception, he was hit and looked groggy.

Shinskie needed to come out for his own safety.

Marsco was a deer in the headlights with Foster's blitzs and made one good throw.

I don't know what the answer could be? Bring back the bazooka/wildcat? Run a full back? Get the ball to Coleman. We were only able to throw to him twice today?

It looks like a long season ahead and no answers in sight; but thats what the coaches get paid for.
