Herzy's final home game and other links

This week is the senior class's final home game and the last chance for Mark Herzlich to play at the Heights. Herzy's season has been part triumph and part frustration but I agree with his own assessment that he is getting better each week. I won't be there but I hope people get a good youtube clips of the Herzlich family in the Senior Day ceremonies as it will be a special moment for them and us.

BC's other star linebacker is a finalist for the Nagurski award.

BC finally released the bios of Steve Donahue's first full recruiting class. This means they all officially signed.

Rich Lapham is back practicing while a few teammates are still on the mend.

Here are the latest commitments from the division.

  1. BC seems to be doing OK with recruiting compared to Maryland, Wake, NCSU, and even Clemson (who has also a bunch of 2* recruits)

But one Wake recruit really caught my eye. Although just a 2*, his name is nuts:

    GOD'S POWER OFFOR

I thought it was a spoof. It is not. Guy has a rivals page and all.

What the hell was wrong with that kid's parents. I wonder what his nickname is?

  2. How big is this game? I know storming is pathetic, but if we clinch a bowl game after the disaster we went through this year, after herzy's last game, after chase's breakthrough season, I say no doubt we storm.

  3. I agree completely Teej...that would be incredibly pathetic.

  4. If we storm the field for this game, I will never attend a BC football game again. Have some pride.

  5. Also, God's Power Offor won Deadspin's Name of the Year contest.

  6. Storming the field for a 6th win against a lowly opponent would be the most depressing thing I ever saw as a BC fan. Not only does 6 wins not guarantee a bowl game, but its a 6th win in 11 tries. Storming the field as an unranked team who just beat the #1 team is one thing. Storming the field as an unranked team who just got their 6th win against another unranked team would be despicable.

  7. Why do people think our students will storm the field?

  8. JoeyMethod - I think it's going to be in response to Tranquil announcing his retirement at a halftime ceremony. He'll be carried off the field carrying the bronzed bottle of Nyquil GDf will present

  10. Call our student fan base what you will but I don't think they are THAT out of touch with the accepted norms for field/court storming (perhaps I should not comment as I was part of the court storming after we beat Syracuse in 2005...I will however argue that we were in the right).

Blist - if Tranquil announces his retirement I will storm the bar where I am watching the game.

  11. Blist - it's going to be quite windy on Saturday, I guess. I'm sure Tranquill will have some tricks up his sleeve - like running Harris up the middle on first, second and third down.

I'll be there and getting my loud yell ready if needed - Coach Gary Tranquill - RETIRE - Give me an R, Give me an E................

Let's go BC - beat Virginia and put youselves into the right frame of mind to invade Syracuse and score a huge renewed rivalry victory.

  12. When was the last time fans stormed the field at Alumni?

  13. I don't care much about the Bowl possibilities - but 7 and 5 (5 game winning streak) going back to SF (the timing of that bowl is great this year) or Our Nation's Capitol would be real good for our seniors especially - many of whom have received significant injuries during their careers. They deserve this and will have achieved this milestone in spite of Gary Nyquil.

Coach Spaz will have earned his right to continue as BC's football coach, and to attract and recruit his players, etc.

But if he does not replace his OC, his reputation will have been greatly diminished and our chances for getting back on top of the ACC severely hampered. Loyalty should not be the overriding factor here.
