In-game comments post: Syracuse

Had enough of family? This afternoon is your chance to sneak away and enjoy some BC football. Leave your comments below throughout the game.

You can also join the conversation on the Eagle Insider message boards.

I will also be on twitter periodically during the game.

  1. Go Eagles! Will miss Montel but hoping the boys can suck it up and find a way to win. Went to every home game this year and good to see BC riding a 4 game win streak and get a national TV game. I hope they let Rettig loose.

  2. Looking forward to getting a little revenge on 'Cuse in this game as well as being able to watch on actual TV. Also, LOLBOISE. Gosh was it satisfying to see them go down.

  3. This is somewhat similar to '04. Final game of the season. We lost our best player, Paul Peterson, in '04 forcing us to start redshirt freshman Matt Ryan. He was alright that day, but not good enough to overcome the defense that allowed Syracuse to run all over them. This year, our best player, Montel, is out. The difference: our defense is way, way better than the '04 bunch. We just need to get about 17 points out of our offense and I think BC wins this game.

  4. Like that we are going to tight ends early.

    ReplyDelete
  5. This is a good drive, we are playing tough and making the plays we need.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I liked the 3rd-down play-call there. Chase just threw the ball a beat late. Good drive over-all. Disappointed both by settling for three and the insistence on running it on first-down. Still, Andre and Chase both looked good on that drive.

  7. Ouch. the defense is having another horribly start.

And as I say that, Ramsey gets in the backfield for a big loss.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Stopped 'em! How much you wanna bet we run on first down? Right up the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  9. amidon looks great. dre williams and montel are going to be potent next year. love the young talent on this squad.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The play-calling on this second drive has been atrocious. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  11. If we win, it will be in spite of our OC.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yea, as much as our players improved throughout the year, (and Rettig was clearly the starting QB for this time as well, which set the team back a few wins) the offensive strategy is still embarassing. Tranquill has got to either retire (again) at the end of the year or be replaced with someone who has a few more tricks up their sleeve.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It is so time for the OC to go!

    ReplyDelete
  14. If we do win these next 2 games, I hope it isn't a life raft for Tranquil. I'm with you guys, he needs to be shown the door. Do we have anyone in-house that should be promoted or should we look outside for a new hire?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Herzlich is looking quicker today. Nice to see him flying around

    ReplyDelete
  16. Spaz calling for the review there was completely idiotic. Who up in the booth told him to challenge that? It was not even a close call. Now we have lost a timeout that we may need for an end of the half drive and we cannot challenge any plays the rest of the game.

    ReplyDelete
  17. What was that call on the punt?

Let's go BC - Let's not allow the Orange to hang around.

A nice drive for a touchdown would be nice.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I guess I'm missing something here but I don't think Tranq is near as bad as he was earlier in the year. He has gone down-field several times, he has thrown on first down and he is finally utilizing the tight ends.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Great run by Andre. Loved how he spun off that tackle

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wow, Harris and Williams next year could be a crushing 1-2 punch!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Great call by Tranq with the wide receiver pass. But, God, these receivers are killing BC today!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Can't blame the coach for that one.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Luke has been quiet today. I've noticed they have been running away from him and really trying to block him.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Glad to see Spaz use his final timeout there to give the ball back to the offense before halftime. These guys coach well when there is nothing major on the line.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Love where we're going, no doubt. Andre is a scary good--like a "little bus" with major moves. Just can't figure out why we can't catch the football today. Rettig makes some great throws, the reverse pass was so not like Tranq, and we drop the ball. Let's Go Eagles! Execute! (Great D too, huh? Yes we do.) Does Tim Brown not like BC...yes he don't.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Drops Must be something to with lighting in carrier dome.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Pantale just needs to let the drop go. He's been racking up yards today, and we need to stay clutch. Overall, hasn't been the most exciting of games.
I have to say, Tranq's play calling hasn't been uninspired.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Two things are certain, we have tons of talented young people on this team, and need to be much more aggressive and varied in our O play calling. Andre is a great back--speed, pop and toughness--Rettig can throw, has cojones and smarts--our WR's are running routes at times that look like they don't know the playbook.

Oh, and yeah-if we do go bowlin' to SF we won't be playing another talented inefficient team like 'Cuse. If it's Nevada or Boise, Ouch. Gotta execute on every possession against good football teams. Gotta score TD's in the red zone. Gotta have coaches who don't throw the red flag when they don't have good intell...Gotta play to win on every play. We have all the tools to be a great team someday, and today would be a great time to start rollin' like one in the 2nd half. C'mon Eagles! Let it all out and rock these 'Cusers!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, this could be 10 to 0 or even 14 to 0. The OC has done better today.

Fact is we have to suck it up and hold the Orange for 30 more minutes.

I think we can score a touchdown in the 2nd half. I would like us to win convincingly, but we'll take anything we can get in the way of victory.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm looking for a big half from Kuechly. Though, I'll take the clock eating from our offense too.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 'Cuse will go wide on the ground now cause they know we're not quick out there. It's all about taking it to our slower guys outside and our "soft cushion" in the middle. (Does anybody think Tim Brown is a 'Cuse Lover yet?)
"Now 'm a happy man," he says. Domers...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Darn, these redzone dropped passes are going to come back to haunt us.

Hopefully, the BC offense made adjustments to match the great adjustments the Syracuse offense made at half.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bad D. that whole drive. No defense stops off tackle.

    Get Newman out of there

    ReplyDelete
  34. Now we'll see what the team and the coaching staff is made of.

We are not going to back into a bowl. Let's get going, guys. This is ACC versus the Big East.

This is Syracuse, the team that denied us a BCS Bowl in 2004.

    Let's go BC.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ugh, that's what BC gets for leaving so many points on the field. The inability to put the ball in the end zone will end up killing BC today. Now that Syracuse is ahead, let's hope it doesn't snowball like it did for the bball team yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, they figured out what we can't do very well--and went at us. Unlike Tranq, they won't keep pounding the middle. If our LB's and cover corners don't step up now we could be in for a long day--especially since we don't like to score TD's in the redzone this season.
    C'mon Eagles! Smash some Mouth!

    ReplyDelete
  37. We miss Holloway - put in Williams at DE - I agree, get Newman out of there.

Put in Quinn at DE or Momah, if not Williams.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow! Was Pantale OPEN or what? Lets get a TD.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey Tim Brown..."I'm a happy man, now." Touchdown Boston College! AT LAST...Go Eagles!

    ReplyDelete
  40. What was the reason we didn't start Rettig in Game 1 again?

    Tranquill dodged a bullet there.

Come on McGovern - tighten these guys up.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Time to get into a rhythm, and put Cuse away.

    ReplyDelete
  42. andre williams baby. fighting for the TD. 25 carries for 115 yards and a TD and there are still 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nice answer by the Talons of Fury!!

We have the Orangemen on their heels. This smashmouth football is going to wear them out.

Wow! What a play by Luke on the kickoff!

    ReplyDelete
  44. South Florida is shutting out Miami - let's go BC/ACC.

    Come on McGovern.

    ReplyDelete
  45. WTF!!! This defense is pissing me off. C'mon guys, you have been very good all year. Let's don't blow it now.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Tackle People! Scafe!!!! Beauty move!

    ReplyDelete
  47. scafe just owned that 'cuse lineman.

D is playing well. i don't understand the complaints, obviously they are going to get some completions and first downs.

lets close this game out and get W # 7.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Why wasn't Williams used earlier in the season? It would have made more sense to run him 10 times a game and keep Montel down around 22 carriers. This kid is good!

    ReplyDelete
  49. eagleboston, echoing those comments, the fact that rettig didn't start until ND and that williams wasn't feature prominently under harris was completely run into the ground isnt a good sign for the coaching staff. not sure who to pin it on but clearly this guy should've been getting more touches.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Alas, the complaints will always be with us...or words to that effect.
(Maybe it's soft cushion pass protect, the fear of losing to 'Cuse, the wacky season--the disbelief that we are actually making plays...and so it goes.)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Good point El Miz. We're so used to the D keeping opponents out of the endzone the past few weeks that we have lost touch with reality. Most D's are going to give up 2-3 TDs per game.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Andre is hurting people out there...The Dude is pummeling the 'Cuse.

    ReplyDelete
  53. My God, he pushes the pile back 4 yards after getting hit. Love this Williams kid!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. andre williams baby!!! making tranq look good haha. 3rd and 7...handoff for a first down. later a 3rd and 8...handoff for another first down. cuse D has gotta be exhausted.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 12 carries on that drive for andre, over 60 yards on the ground. 16-7 with 6:43 to play LETS GO

    ReplyDelete
  56. Tranq still sucks...Are we really unable to score a TD after all that work? I'm sorry, but this is why Gary has to go...Is Tranquil's middle name Inertia?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Smashmouth!!!!! I love it. Let everyone else run the spread. We will keep recruiting pocket passers, massive linemen and great running backs. Defenses today are not designed to stop smashmouth football.

Now the D cannot let them score quickly here. Make them earn it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Observations:

    - Andre Williams and our o-line are decimating Syracuse. The 16-7 score is not indicative of how BC has outplayed the Cuse today.

    - How is UCONN in position to get to a BCS bowl game (if they win today and against USF next week)? That is a joke.

    - I do not want to play Boise State or Nevada in a bowl game. Either one of thoes teams would beat BC by 30 points. Those guys are the real deal. Nevada runs that pistol offense like a machine. And BSU is a top-3 team in the country, I know they lost last night, but those guys are nasty.

    - Huge props to Spaz and his staff for recruiting freshmen like Rettig, Amidon, and Williams. Don't forget that Spaz had a definite hand in recruiting Kuechly.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The way BC is running the ball, I think I would have gone for it on the 4th and 2. They may not get the ball back. Maybe he is banking on a turnover.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Eagle LA--True, true, true, and True.
The staff got some great talent for this very promising BC football team.
But this is also a case of "No Country for Old Men" and our guys need to score more than one TD per game against a 'Cuse. Our staff needs to open up the game with these kids...It's like we have to put the guys in a position to gamble every now and then. It's kinda fun to score TD's when you're smashin' some moputh out there.

    ReplyDelete
  61. You have to get the FG there, make it 2 possessions. God this is maybe the most painful 60 minutes of football ever.

    ReplyDelete
  62. That was a "put the game away" 3rd and 1 - and Tranquill couldn't figure it out.

He couldn't figure it out on the drive that ended in a field goal either.

    This guy drives me crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Luke was below 10 tackles before this drive, but he already has 2. Can he do it?

Guess not. Herzy just got another INT!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. HERZLICH!

I'm good with the victory formation - I love it and we're classy.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thank you Sterlin Phiffer.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Well, there's lots to celebrate today. Our kids went up against a Big Least team and dominated the second half, we discovered Andre's greatness, and our coaches still can still spell sucksess with a weak finish at the end of stanzas. Lower case w's are not as fun to watch as strong wins--But Herzy gets an INT at the end to do what he has always done: Finish with Class. Go Eagles! Love these guys. They deserve alot of respect for coming back from a tough place.
On to the Bowl! A Bright Future Awaits...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Luke did it! 21 straight games with 10 or more. He better win the Butkus Award.

  69. 2004 revenge, baby!!! It took 6 years but I'm guessing somewhere in the ATL, Matty Ice has a smile on his face.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I actually enjoyed spaz/ tranq diabolical and arch conservative 4Q ground control game. OL and Andre made it great to watch.

Plain vanilla this year. A few sprinkles and a cherry next year

    ReplyDelete
  71. This game should have been 24 or 28 to 7 with a different OC. I'm okay with conservative, smash mouth, etc.

But you have to get those 2 and 1 and 3rd and 1s. We'll get them next year.

I'm very happy for this team, and very happy that they got the victory - 5 in a row.

    Great going.

    ReplyDelete
  72. That was the closest ass whipping I've ever seen. BC should have won by 3 scores.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I didn't help our offensive scheme that our receivers were dropping td passes left and right. Overall, good solid win. Aside from Cuse's one td drive, BC dominated both sides of the ball. Great job to the o-line for being bruisers, Williams for being the heir apparent to Harris, and to Rettig for managing a solid game.
That was a great way to finish off Herzlich's regular season career with the INT.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Teej, We did win by three score. - 3FGs!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Very well information you write it very clean. I'm very lucky to get this info from you and I was just wondering on your comment about In-game comments post: Syracuse.
