Another honor for Kuechly and other links

The Football Writers Association of America named Luke Kuechly to their All America team. It is Luke's second nation team honor and a good indicator that he will make the AP's team.

I don't know if it is good ol' BC luck or if he is just off to a good start, but Danny Rubin's play has been much better than expected. What's crazy is that Donahue was slow playing him at Cornell and Rubin was ready to walk on at Colgate. Now he is burying jumpers for an ACC team.

BJ Raji made huge strides this season.

  1. This is Kuechly's third All-America team this year: AFCA, Walter Camp, FWAA.

Here are all the players in BC history who have been named to all three of those AA teams:

    QB Doug Flutie (1984)
    DL Mike Ruth (1985)
    LB Luke Kuechly (2010)

  2. He also made the ESPN All American team, which was announced yesterday afternoon. During the broadcast there was also a small segment dedicated to Herzlich, even though he didn't make the team.

  3. ATL,
I love the blog and have been an avid reader for four years. How about a little more bball coverage though? We have a big ACC game in a few hours. Thanks.

  4. BC women's hoops extended its record to 10-0 -- the best start in program history -- with a 84-75 win over Rutgers today in front of more than 1,000 fans at Conte. Rutgers is a decent team; they knocked off #11 Georgetown last week.

  6. will discuss the game separately, just need to talk about how the maryland band has played both the legend of zelda and teenage mutant ninja turtles theme songs

  8. Great day for BC basketball. Women's team goes 10-0 and men's team earns The Don his first ACC victory.

  9. what a game by the basketball team. lot of fun to watch. raji looks like a different person out there. kudos to biko and his shooting tonight. reggie is the stud. a lot of fun to watch these guys. keep it up coach don.

  10. First game I got to see all year. The guys looked good, for the most part.. except Elmore and Trapani looked pretty awful for most of the game. The pace was great, the timeouts were great. The Don is pretty much the opposite of AL..

  11. Temple's Al Golden to Miami

    Former b.c. Lb coach.

Not really the big Name I thought Miami would reel in.

    Salary $2M per year

Guess we r stuck with Spaz for a few more years

  12. So now BC has beaten teams from the Big Ten, Pac 10, Big XII, Big East, and ACC. Not to mention the once great Atlantic 10. If we take care of business against South Carolina, we’ll add the SEC to the mix and have a pretty cool distinction of beating someone from all six “BCS” leagues. This has been one of our better non-conference schedules in recent memory.

  13. Sorry to say, but this blog is no longer "current" with BC sports news. No comments on a big basketball win? No follow up from last football game. etc, etc.

What other BC blogs do people like.

For me, the only other decent BC blog is BCI. Eagle outsider seems too chaotic. eagle insider... who wants another bill to pay.

    any suggestions out there?

  14. soaring to glory is worth a look.

in ATL's defense, he does have an infant at home to worry about and I am sure that takes up a lot of his time.

  15. Why not take a few minutes and simply say that "I don't have the time anymore", instead of ignoring the questions that have been asked

  16. Holy cow people, cool the jets. So Bill has had a busy couple of weeks and doesn't have the time to work on a free blog that has been providing free BC content for over five years. I highlight the free content. And it's not like that Bill has been out of commission for weeks and hasn't given notice. It's probably the same people calling for Spaz to be fired...

  17. What a start for BC basketball - men and women.

I liken the improvement in mens basketball (new coach - no more flex) to the improvement we're going to make in football when Spaz gets a new OC.

Until then, we will never reach our true offensive potential under Tranquill.

  18. Seriously.

Who benefits from the repeated complaints about lack of updates? Are you going to guilt him into updating more frequently? Football news is pretty quiet right now and bball has plenty of time in the season.

So excited for the basketball team, but I'm still worried about Trapani.

  19. Benjamin -- who cares if it is free. Content is king. If ATL wants to keep the blog going -- and I hope he does -- he can't keep blowing off his readers. This has been going on all season.

Maybe it's the seven-year itch or something else (the infant excuse is lame, though), but the blog and dialog have not been then same for many months. And that is a shame. This used to be a great blog. It is just a good blog now. Ever to Excel??? C'mon ATL, get motivated.

Maybe ATL can bring in BCMike to co-blog for a while or even BJK (he'd be a great blogger substitute!). Put a little new life into the blog!

And before I hear all the complaints: Yes ATL is a great guy, yes he has done a great job, yes he has done it for free, yes he is credit to the BC communirty, yes, yes, yes...

  20. I think the reason we are seeing these complaints is because Bill provides some of the best coverage from the BC perspective. I like a lot of the other BC blogs, but this is where I go first. Interesting analysis and good info.

Let's cut him some slack though, the infant excuse is very valid.

  21. Bill deserves the benefit of the doubt here. The holiday period is the busiest time of year for a lot of people and it's oftentimes hard to find the spare time to keep up with hobbies. I'm sure Bill has commitments that are more important than blogging.

We should also take into account that Bill isn't responsible for covering all aspects of BC sports. Like anyone else, I'm sure he has his favorite sports and may only feel like blogging about those particular sports. If the blog is found to be lacking in some respect, there are alternatives available.

  22. Bill has done a great job. Bill is busy with his other work. Bill does have an infant. Bill does find time to do some blogging. All true. But, all I suggested is that he might find less than a minute to say, I'm over my head for a while. Don't say that you'll do something, and then don't do it, and then don't even take just a few seconds to explain. No problem with slack, just asking for a wee bit of courtesy.

  23. Bickering aside, interesting to see the basketball team @ #14
    in CBS's RPI:

  24. If it's so easy, why doesn't everyone complaining start their own BC Athletics Blog with all the content they want? You can update it 15 times a day with coverage on all the right sports at the exact right time. You'll get millions of readers and no one will ever complain because you'll be doing a perfect job.

Or, you can stop reading if it's so terrible...

Bill, you're doing just fine, thanks!

  25. Bill/ATL -- great blog, but I do think reader interest is fading because your efforts seem to be slackening over the past several months. That is not meant to criticize you, just a statement of events or perceptions.

You have built such a great forum, I too hate to see it fading, if ever so slightly.

  26. He can do whatever he wants.

His blog. His time. His life.

    The presumptuousness is surprising.

Give me, give me, give me.

    It's free.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks for the shout out, Dustbowl. However, one must have sources within the athletic department and so forth to be a great blogger like Bill has been over the years - and I don't have those.

I'll try to help out by posting comments that I think are relevant. I notice that some of Bill's posts come late at night, for what that's worth.

  28. Erik:

I'm going to the South Carolina game - so I hope we rack up a win against the SEC as well.

I will also watch Coach Donahue closely in relation to Coach Horn, who thinks he's one of the most heady coaches around.

    Go BC

  29. Is there any reason Bill can't get some help from some of the "regulars"?

If Bill were to choose a couple of "moderators" who could post new topics, then everybody else could use the comments to fill in content as they have been doing.
