Is EA Sports already using our new look?

EO poster Onyx Blackman had a nice find today with his screen caps of our uniforms in EA Sports. I am still waiting on confirmation from BC if all these looks will be used on the field. The big changes are the return of maroon pants and the gold home jersey. I welcome both additions. Other thoughts:

-- It looks like the "all white" era is over. I will always associate it with Jags's time at BC, so we might as well drop it.
-- A gold home jersey may be a reality. It is not as dramatic a departure as I was hoping for, but the gold jersey is perfect for a one-time event. I predict it will debut in our Thursday night game against Florida State.
-- It looks like we will have the stained glass numbers we saw in basketball. I don't know if anyone other than die-hard BC fans notice, but it is a nice touch.
-- This will be the first time BC plays in maroon pants with stripes. The maroon pants of the TOB era were solid.
-- The helmet stays the same.

Please share your thoughts. I will update as I get new information.

  2. Borrringgg, no black jerseys, no change in overall design...another portion of BC football that has no buzz

  3. EA's trademark license guarantees that it has accurate representations of the uniforms, logos, mascots, and stadiums used by the schools, conferences and bowl games. So if it's in the game, then that's what BC will be using.

The only thing the EA/NCAA license does not convey (and in fact expressly excludes) are rights to use the players' names or photos.

  4. Everyone knows that Nike is by far the best and comes out with the best uni's. Get rid of UA and make the switch! BC Pro Combats?

  5. was kind of hoping for black jerseys for special events (ie. FSU game would be perfect blackout). And a change in the helmet design would be nice.

  6. Flutie wore a gold helmet. The red stripe copies the Giants. That was Coughlin's idea. The solid gold helmet is more expressive. The striped helmet connotes predictability.

  7. Bob B: Black is not a school color. It should not be the primary color of any of our athletics uniforms.

  8. the guys on EO are hilarious.

its all about team speed: bring back the all-whites.

  9. I was hoping for the white with gold pants (I think they wore them for the '10 Bowl Game vs. USC) for away games...49ers style

  10. all whites foreva, maroon or gold pants on the road nevah!

  11. Thanks DL for reminding us that the school colors are maroon and gold---not black.

Where does this fascination with black unis come from? Even the Celtics committed sacrilege and had black on their jerseys.

If you are the Oakland raiders or Pittsburgh Steelers--great! Black is your color.

I know I'm getting old as dirt, so what am I missing with the black?

  13. I like that the subtle black stripe has been removed from the pants. The only black left now is in the small logos on the left hip.

  14. I'm fine with this sort of mild tinkering. The day I blow up is when BC throws a logo on the side of our helmets. THAT would be unacceptable to me. (and no pro combat bullshit, BC is traditional football)

  15. Love the gold tops. My least favorite of the three is the white tops with maroon pants.

I was hoping for one "blackout" game, but a "gold out" will do.

  16. The "gold" jersey on my browser looks very yellow. Looks like GTech. The "maroon" looks kinda reddish

  17. Chicagofire: Just because BC football is traditional, doesnt mean we cant create some buzz with some Pro Combats. Alabama is way more traditional than BC and they got Pro Combat jerseys and even the old school fans liked them. Recruits want cool uni's, not plain ones.

And maroon pants are disgusting, go back to the all-whites, way fresher...

  18. Wikipedia states that the "color maroon" is "dark brown to purple red. It shows an example. The uniform pictures shown are not maroon but red.

  19. How are these unis enhancing the BC brand when the only mention of BC on jersey helmet and pants is asmall - tatto like - eagle on the upper front hip. ???? So small and hidden

BC 's unis should be selling BC not some generic uni. Geez, this is marketing 101. Look at Texas as an example of how to do it.

  20. 34, take a look at the uni's worn by Penn State, OSU, Alabama and, horribile dicut, Notre Dame. Very plain, traiditional, with no extra branding and no school logos that are large an visible. These plain(er) unis are not a terrible road to go down.

  21. BCMurt. True, many school of great repute go the non logo approach. Looks nice, but I'd at least like to see an eagle or "BC" on the helmet - ala UNC, USC, Clemson, MD and many many others

But in the end, the unis are fine: Play Ball

  22. Nobody cares, but I would like dark pants and gold shirts, and gold pant and white shirts - in addition to the traditional home uniform.

Let's disallow shirts out and short pants! :-)

    You're right - play ball.

  23. I cannot believe this subject garners over 20 comments! Do you guys secretly watch Ready to Wear?

They could wear leapard skin pants for all I care just so they win. I would like to return to the Flutie era solid gold helmets though.

  24. Eagleboston, it's okay for fans to get excited about uniforms. Personally, I think this is a great direction for the uniform. I don't like gimmicky uniforms with useless logos.

Mod34, I think these uniforms can sell BC. Who says logos are necessary to sell a school? If we can get a silhouette along the lines of Texas, I'd be down, but overall I'm happy.

Except... I can't believe it, but I agree with JBQ that the red has to be changed. Our color is maroon not red.

  25. Maroon tops at home w/ gold pants. Gold tops with maroon pants on the road. Boston College written above the numbers. Ever to Excel below the numbers. Eagle logos on the top of the shoulder pads. Eagle beaks on the side of the helmets. Wings on the sleeves, tailfeathers on the butt of the pants. All fans will have their noses panted maroon, just like local alumni from the 1950s. Whiskers and giants ears for the cheerleaders. Simply marvelous. Oh, I'm getting hot flashes.
