In-game comments post: Clemson

Death Valley has produced two of my favorite BC memories: our OT win in 2005 and clinching the Atlantic in 2007. It also was host to the lightning delayed Spaz-Tranq offensive disaster in 2009. Let's hope today adds to the fond memory category. I will be there in person rooting on the players and ready to boo Spaz. You can find me in Section V, so certainly stop by and introduce yourself. For those watching at home, please leave your thoughts and comments below.

  1. All my Clemson friends have asked me the same basic question - what in the world has happened to BC?

Who said this? It looks like a nightmare scenario for xxx, yet Offensive Coordinator YYY suggested his team was not panicking and is eager to see if the adversity could become a rallying point. "We know it's a formidable opponent, they are ranked ZZZ in the country, they've got a great defense, you're playing them on the road without your starting XYZ. Everyone knows that part of their responsibility with sos and so out is everyone on both sides of the ball and on special teams has to pick up some of the slack."

Charlie Weiss as his team prepares to play LSU with a freshman QB, as the Florida starter is out.

What does our Coach Boo Hoo say? Something to lower expectations, I'm sure instead of embracing the opportunity. He has sent many messages to this team that it cannot win - utterly disgraceful.

If our guys do not quit it will be a tremendous feather in their cap and a testament to their character.

Go BC - "We shall overcome".

  2. This is Clemson's Homecoming Game.

42 to 17 is about the best we can hope for today, unless we have some effective defensive adjustments - ha, a, ha, ha.

Let's hope that Andre Branch doesn't put Rettig into the hospital today.

Are we going to burn Abdesman's redshirt today at DE? Go Deuce Finch!

Go BC - show some pride in spite of the negative Head Coach.

I'm going to go play golf now.

  3. Abdesmad already played BJK. Anyway, I think we're winning today. Team rallies, Spaz has told us that we're close and far away, I'm betting on close and big win. Unfortunately, it helps our terrible coach, but the players are working hard and deserve it.

  4. From someone who has been to a soccer match at Death Valley, I can say that Clemson is another of those Southern "next to heaven" country experiences. The Jesuit urban mentality and mind set is quite a contrast. It's a lot like Henry David Thoreau "playing golf with Benjamin Netanyahu".

  5. Link to game online for those of us w/o espn3?

  6. clemson looks like a top 10 team.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Rob, could be on justin.tv.

    ReplyDelete
  8. And the 10 yard corner cushion fails yet again.

By the way, Spaz sounded utterly horrific in the pre-game radio show today.

    ReplyDelete
  9. LOL eagle boston what do you mean by "horrific." what did spaz say, can you elaborate?

i fully expect spaz to say sometime in the future "we don't even expect to win this game." gene will then defend this -- "its not spaz's fault, i had to fire jags three years ago!!"

rob, why would you even want to watch this? i am happy to be blacked out; somehow following on gamecast numbs the pain of the inept coaching staff.

  10. This is so much like watching BC in the mid-90's. We had no shot in any conference game we played. It was completely depressing. Never thought I would wish for TOB to be back. We got way too used to 8 or 9 wins, a perennial WTF and a bowl game every season. And we complained about that! I would go back to those days in a heartbeat.

  11. @aimclemson Clemson is making this look ridiculously easy. BC is just awful.

we are 11 minutes into the game and BC is down by 17.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Rob---Hahahahahahahaha. That's the funniest thing I've seen in a while. I want whatever good stuff you've been smoking.

    ReplyDelete
  13. With only 1 yard...Does BC get more yards or turnovers this game?

    ReplyDelete
  14. El Miz,

Spaz completely lacked energy and what drives me nuts is he says "you know" 5 times in the same sentence. He kept saying that BC has a long way to go and we know what needs to be fixed, but it's going to take a lot of work. He mentioned all of the penalties by experienced players.
It was just lifeless and depressing.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I feel really bad for the players. They don't deserve this humiliation. They can't be blamed for being trained so poorly.

    ReplyDelete
  16. El Miz,

I should have taken your advice. Masochist that I am, I endured TigerNet and the gloating Clemson fans to finally find a link, only to get the game running just as Rettig was mauled for a fumble.

2nd and 20, I'm guessing Spaz runs up the middle or maybe a draw and then a short outlet pass.

Can we just hire Chad Morris for our HC now?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well so far special teams looks okay. Two decent punts and some good kickoff returns.

    Everything else is awful.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You have to be kidding me. We can't get a little break?

    ReplyDelete
  19. "@travis_sawchik Boyd already has three completions of 20-plus yards ...Morris really attacking BC downfield and making it look easy"

i thought our ridiculous 10 yard cushion defensive scheme was supposed to prevent big downfield plays?

    even our D stinks.

    #fire spaz

  20. Oh my God there's a defensive stop!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Rob,

I'm not familiar with Chad Morris. What is his background?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Eagle Boston,

Chad Morris is the former Tulsa OC that Clemson hired this year. Was responsible for some very prolific Tulsa offenses (if you recall they beat Notre Dame last year) and has come into Clemson and worked wonders in one year. I think he's similar to the Auburn OC (can't recall his name, Malzahn?) who was a very innovative HS college coach not that long ago, brought into college program and success has continued.

Clemson offense is just light years better than they were before he got there. Considering the Spaz, Gene, Blauds company line that it takes 4-5 years to really develop your own guys, I can't even imagine how good this guy will be once he really puts his stamp on the program.

Who knows if he'd even consider us, but he'll be a hot commodity very shortly.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Rettig is holding on to the ball for entirely too long. It cost him a turnover already.

    ReplyDelete
  24. why would he volunteer to come to our crap-tastic situation with greasy gene calling the shots? we are toast until GDF steps down.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm selling BC Football Commemorative 2011 Season Doormats online, and maybe even an Apple App, too, that each time it's downloaded it shuts down everything in your home on Saturdays that used to work efficiently...Any takers?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow Clemson has some balls and is going for points right before halftime. What a novel thought.

I'm thrilled we just scored a touchdown. It beats getting bagel'd.

If they score before halftime then that is a disgrace.

    ReplyDelete
  27. squib before half, will come back to haunt us.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Spaz LOVES the squib, even after last week. As Spaz would say, "well you try to teach old dogs, but learning stuff is a different trick."

    ReplyDelete
  29. That squib was so defeatist. C'mon Super Mario Mustache!

    ReplyDelete
  30. It appears to be the end for me. For the first time in 31 years, not only did I not watch any of the game I havent even listen. Just put it on in the car to gfet the halftime score and shut it right off. I think I said 56-13 Don't even care.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Odds of Clemson retaliating and knocking Rettig unconscious on one of their unblocked runs at him? 2-1? 1-2?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Welcome to the club. The only game I've watched was the Northwestern game. There's better football to watch every Saturday than BC. Plus, I'd like to keep my blood pressure down at normal levels.

    ReplyDelete
  33. They're trying their best!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Looking forward to the make up holding call for that bad roughing the passer penalty. But I love the "that's the first flag on Clemson" comment

    ReplyDelete
  35. at some point this season, im sensing....

a WTF win which keeps spaz for next year.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, I'm a BC sucker. I can remember years in the Big Least where I was only able to see 2-3 games per year. I'll watch BC any time they are on and I don't have something else going on. Even if they are 1-11, I will always watch my Eagles.

By the way, we lead the 2nd half 7-3.

    ReplyDelete
  37. At least they are showing some heart now for the first time all season.

    ReplyDelete
  38. KPL, you gotta make that play! It was right in your hands!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Imagine if we had a healthy Momah and a healthy Harris this season?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm really getting tired of the dumb mental mistake penalties by BC. Dumb, dumb, dumb!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Our defense is horrible!!!!!

    Horrible!!

This was all set up by that dumb ass penalty that put the offense inside the 15. Killed us on field position.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, let me take that comment back. Only 2 more TDs to get to 50.

    ReplyDelete
  43. BC is down by 22 points and they are running the football!!

    Great clock management Spaz!

    ReplyDelete
  44. One positive note today: I'm enjoying watching Sean Sylvia out there today at safety. He's been consistently agressive and chippy, particularly for a freshman. We need that attitude out of our guys.

    ReplyDelete
  45. My BC doormats are flyin' out the door. Spaz has agreed to autograph a limited number of 'em, too. They come with a Bag o' Bumb Penalties, and a free Squib Kick for those with lower back pain...come'n get'em!

    ReplyDelete
  46. The Wake loss is not looking so bad. They took it to the Seminoles today.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow, EagleB, I applaud your optimism--musta been a Philosophy Major, right?

    ReplyDelete
  48. We have talent. Just not talented coaches.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Got to love Spaz not allowing Shinski to throw a pass, god forbid he actually look decent (which would be better than Rettig) and have to think about his QB situation.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Mmason,

History major. We tend to look back on the good old days and hope they return.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well, I'm heading to the neighborhood Oktoberfest party. A couple beers will help numb the pain.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Maybe next game I'll peddle "Memories of Forgotten Victory Days" illustrated embossed Beer mugs...Call it The Look On the Bright Side Collection and dedicate the first series to EagleB & old TOB fans...Have a great weekend,BC Nation.
    Hope lives eternal...Go Eagles!
...or how about Spaz Mustache Nose Glasses (Tinted only)?

    ReplyDelete
  53. I thought BC looked pretty good today and they've lifted up my hopes that we'll get another three or four wins this year. You may laugh but I think we have an outside chance of sweeping the rest of the games. If we do we'll be 7 and 5 and we'll continue our bowl run.

Now back to reality. The offense did well running but didn't start doing this until they were done by two touchdowns. But it seemed each first down run gave us six plus yards. It all tells me we have the talent to play with a top ten team (except perhaps for the QB spot - too erratic) which we've had all season so being one and five with this talent makes no sense other than we need a young sparky coach.

I get the feeling Spaz is missing what's happening on the field most of the time. Fortunately I didn't have to watch him going for a field goal with the team down 17 - 0.

A week off - time to get it together - hopefully BC will start thinking of a young coach and give Spaz his walking papers but that's a dream considering the AD thinks so highly of him.

  54. Two scenes from today's game:

    1. GDF sends out a tweet at the start of the game about how nice it was to see all 80,000 Clemson fans in their seats before kickoff.

One can only hope that somebody was spoofing GDF's Twitter account, rather confirm that GDF would be critical of BC fans for being late to a home game with all of the restrictions he has agreed to on tailgating at Shea--up to and including intrusive and obnoxious police.

    2. BC is out of the game and Spaz sends in Shinskie for mop-up duty with 3:30 left in the game. Spaz on the sidelines is shown on camera making some type of comment to an assistant/aide and laughing. Coach, unless you didn't notice here was nothing funny about today's game.

Both of these gentlemen should move on now. GDF is out of touch with reality and Spaz is ROAD ("Retired On Active Duty").

    ReplyDelete
  55. I happened to be on campus at LSU today (SIL is on faculty.) I wouldn't give 2 cents for the thugs on that team, but I'd kill for even 1% of the game day spirit. Just mind-boggling.

Sounds like the guys played hard today. I am so sick of Spaz and his loser mentality.
