In-game comments post: UNC

Can we finally win at Chapel Hill? Does this start a strong second half of the season? Or do we come back down to Earth? It should be interesting. Leave your thoughts and comments below.

  1. This game will be a great indication of how our team is improving and progressing.

We were the superior team in 2005 but TOB coached us to a loss.

    Go BC.

If your school's game is on TV and in your local area, make sure your students can see it. BC cable doesn't carry NESN+ which means 7,000+ students will be forced to listen. That's no way to build school pride or interest in the program.

  3. Good stop on D. The fumble was a costly hiccup. I'd like to see the O come and just move the ball at will.

  4. That formation penalty was foolish. Definitely needed to avoid. And arrggh! Need to get that tip.

  5. The offense just seems out of sync since the fumble, AW's fumble aside.

The unc player lowered his head; BS

  7. This offensive play calling is atrocious. Throw the ball down the damn field. These 3 yard passes on third and medium aren't getting it done. Same old vanilla conservative crap from the Clemson and FSU games

    ReplyDelete
  8. Does this game surprise any of the older fans? The younger fans thought this game was a lock because UNC is 1 and 5 and lousy against the run.

    We are too one-dimensional period.

We have witnessed this too many times before.

I have only seen some of this game, but the QB missed a wide open receiver at the 10 yard line on the previous possession. We can't do that.

Let's see what we can do in the second half, but we have no momentum at all. The cards are against us and we have Williams to try to grind it out. 21 to 20? It's possible.

  9. Rettig just isn't that good. takes too much time, and then misses. Won't throw it away either.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I just got home and looked at the halftime stats. What jumped out was 6 completions by Rettig with 5 of the 6 going to Amidon for minuscule yardage. Naples had 1 for 15.

  11. Need to open up the offense in the second half.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That is the most somber I've seen Daz at a half.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I thought Daz was more controlled. He didn't seem overwhelmed, just not he usual rah-rah self.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Need points on this drive. And we need Rettig to get rid of it quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I guess we're burning #54 Marquis Little's redshirt today?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Let's run Williams up the middle on 1st down,

    2nd down too.
    .

    Gary Tranquill.

  17. I agree that BC needs to open things up. Spread the ball around, get some touches for Willis, run some play action.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Don't you just love how we keep the defense off balance?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I understand why we are running. It is all that works. But then it allows them to t off on Rettig on obvious passing downs.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I dont know that the last sack was Rettig's fault but he never just throws the ball away. I'm also concerned that BC has struggled all season long on 3rd down. Is it time to see what Bordner can do? This offense needs a spark and we must convert 3rd downs for a change.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ya Rettig needs to throw the damn ball away and just get rid of it a while lot quicker in general.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I know I always complain about the refs but they have been terrible today.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The entire UNC team is in the box! This has led to BC holds the last 2 possessions. For the love of God, open up the playbook!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Even the damn passing plays are the same. Ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Make the change, Addazio. Rettig is losing to a 1-5 team. He is not the answer and is not getting it done.

  27. That was another sack on Rettig. He is gun shy now.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Throw the ball Rettig! Throw the damn ball! I haven't been this pissed since the Spaz days. This is a game straight out of that era.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If I don't see Rettig play another snap this season , I will not be disappointed. Time to move on for next season.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The d is doing their part.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Refs not calling holding on UNC

    ReplyDelete
  32. They're giving up now.

Change that to they gave up.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't know if we can score three more TDs.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is a first class whupping. I'm getting concerned that we may not find 3 more wins this season. To play this poorly after a bye? Very disconcerting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Let's run Williams up the middle after the kickoff.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't know if they can get 3 more first downs

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes. Down 3 touchdowns with 1 quarter left and they are still running. Genius!

    ReplyDelete
  38. BJK, running Williams up the middle is the only thing that's working. Rettig and the passing is what's killing us.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm holding up four fingers here on my couch. Dont know if it going to help.

    ReplyDelete
  40. let's run him up the middle on 2nd down as well.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is painful to watch.

    Rettig is a mess mentally.

Time to bring in a new QB.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Why are we running the ball? Are the BC coaches trying to run out the clock? They are down 3 scores for God's sake.

  47. Glad he went for it. Was feeling like a Spaz game until then.

  49. Rettig is a joke at this point. Can't pull the trigger. Time for a replacement for the rest of the season. He is going to kill BC going forward.

    ReplyDelete
  50. BC offense needs a spark. Rettig can't get first downs. The backup may be worse, but isn't it worth a shot to see what he can do? What have you got to lose? You are already down 3 scores and you have struggled on 3rd down the entire season.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Don't like to see Duke beating the Hokies. The last thing we need right now is a Beamer team with their backs against the wall.

    ReplyDelete
  52. What happened to the roll out and throw to FB? This is horrendous play calling

    ReplyDelete
  53. It is time

    Down 4 scores

  54. Getting pasted by a 1-5 team. Utter embarassment.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Possibility fir Bowl eligibility now must be rethought

    ReplyDelete
  56. Bordner has shown no ability to throw. He is not the answer. Need to get Rettig back to his old self.

    ReplyDelete
  57. more frustrating than our loss to UNC in 2005. what the hell is this.

get rettig out of there. looks lost, holds on to the ball, not moving the chains. he is not the answer. at least give us a second rushing option, put a runner in at qb!

    ReplyDelete
  58. This is bad but we still have a lot to play for. Cannot throw Rettig under the bus now.

    ReplyDelete
  59. how can people criticize Day? rettig is terrible, as are the WRs other than Amidon. he has one option - run.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Very disappointing to say the least. I have seen 3 games live this year, including the Clemson game, and the D has not been so summarily beaten in every aspect of their game as they have today...and UNC is not particularly athletic, so it's not like we are completely outclassed as with FSU and Clemson.

Rettig is not displaying ANY positive characteristics and he pretty much has been bad in each game I have seen, save a few nice plays per game. There is absolutely NO REASON not to start looking at Bordner or any of the other QBs - NONE.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Rettig is not the answer either atl. And day had a horrible gameplan the first half.

    ReplyDelete
  62. El Miz, it's simple Days sucks as an OC. Have you been watching?

    ReplyDelete
  63. what would a good offensive coordinator do with bad players? thats my question.

    ReplyDelete
  64. down 27 against a previously 1-5 team.

    im done with this game.

after 3+ season with rettig leading us, we know what we have at qb. i doubt we make a bowl game.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Even the screens were bad on that drive.

    ReplyDelete
  66. if you're gonna punt with 7 min to go down 34-7, you might as well put in Bordner. this game is over, let's see if someone else can do more. Rettig has been the same QB since day one of his freshman year, he's not getting any better.

    ReplyDelete
  67. This game was bad but I am still on the Ryan Day bandwagon.

    ReplyDelete
  68. aTL. I am not surprised :)

  69. 1st Hand off up the middle

2nd Hand off up the middle

3rd pass. Scramble. 1st down. Border!!!

    1st. Hand off up middle

    2d

  70. ATL, we have given Rettig 4 years to prove himself. I was very impressed with his play as a freshman, but I assumed he was going to get better and better. He has completely stalled out and the BC offense has been anemic for 3 years now. The team needs a spark and needs someone that can win the must-win games. UNC, a 1-5 team, was a must win. Rettig cannot move this team. A change is needed or BC will be sitting at home yet again in December.

And I am starting to question Day too. How many touches does Willis have? How many great plays has he had this year? Then why are you not getting him the rock? Put the ball in the hands of the guys that can make plays.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Don't know why you would be. Daz is fine (for now) but Day has got to go.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don't mind going with the second teamers on that drive.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Day, Schemes. Yes. Down a lot and he goes for a FG

    ReplyDelete
  74. to the people who don't like Ryan day - what do you recommend a coach do with the talent this offense has? i'm curious as to what could be improved. yes, playcalling is predictable. but with a good RB and a good WR and nothing else, going "5 wide" as some want makes me laugh out loud. amidon and 4 posters from the message board?

    ReplyDelete
  75. new mexico state & NC state stink.

syracuse, maryland, va tech are beatable.

i still think this team can go bowling. this was piss poor today. we gotta win a road game this year, its getting ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Can BC go .500 vs

    VT, MD, NCSU and Cuse?

    ReplyDelete
  77. That was a rough one.

    ReplyDelete
  78. thank god thats over.

BC scored 34 on FSU. combined, their 6 other opponents have scored 50.

a bad weak, and this group of players does not do road games. hopefully we can beat New Mexico LOL

    ReplyDelete
  79. Miz, if you want to run the ball, you don't need to run the same play up the middle over and over. Hell dink and dunk passes would work if you can stretch the defense to the sidelines. There's a ton of stuff Day can do if he isn't confident with Rettig. He has done none of it but run the same plays up the middle over and over and over again.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I watched the second half. "Inept" comes to mind. The offense was offensive. Rettig is a good quarterback with absolutely no coaching. Addazio is a good coach and inspiration. The offensive coordinator needs to be replaced right now. There are two plays. Run Williams and then throw to Amidon. Even a pet giraffe could figure that one out.

    ReplyDelete
  81. LOL. we ran 38 times for 202 yards. even taking out Williams' 56 yarder he carried 25 times for 116 yards (over 4 yards per carry). that is pretty effective running.

rettig DOES dink and dunk. he averaged less than 3 yards per completion! that is pathetic. fact: Rettig is not a good quarterback.

    2nd half drives:
--Williams for 3, Williams for no gain, Rettig to Amidon for 1st down. Williams for 6, holding, Williams for 9, Rettig takes a sack. punt.

--holding, Williams for 4, Rettig incomplete, Rettig takes a sack. punt.

--Rettig incomplete, Williams for 4, Rettig incomplete. punt.

--Williams for 5, Rettig to Naples for 5, Williams for 5, Williams for 4, Williams for 5, Williams no gain, Rettig takes a sack on 4th down.

--Rettig to Amidon for no gain, Rettig scramble for 25, Rettig incomplete, Rettig to Amidon for a yard, Rettig incomplete, punt.

from there the game was over.

we run the ball effectively. yes, when losing its frustrating to watch us run, but how else can we move the ball?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Rettig is not a good QB is right, I know he has been dealt a tough hand with 4 OCs in 4 years but he has no instincts and does not see the field or the rush well. I know Bordner is not a great throwing QB, but he is pretty mobile, we used to have a running package for him. Is he not the kind of QB we are now looking for? Ryan Day is a disaster, I am sorry ATL, I agree with you most of the time, but you are way off on him. Someone made the point in another post, that is he is so great how come Kelly and or his tree has never come calling for him. He is literally making a living on his connection to Kelly, he should be sending him a huge Xmas present ever year. It was a bad loss, but I am still on board with coach Daz, I do like his fire and his recruiting!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Miz, once UNC started putting 8 in the box, BC did nothing to adapt. It was still the same running plays which didn't get many yards in the second half, and which resulted in some pretty dumb penalties. And if you read correctly, I said BC could dink and dunk if they spread the defense which they don't do. Calling different dink and dunk plays and involving more receivers would help as well.
