In-game comments post: Syracuse

This season has gone by fast. That tends to happen when things are going well. But Heismans and better bowls won't happen if we don't beat Syracuse. Let's hope the guys are ready! Leave your thoughts and comments below.

On bus from Suds Factory to Dome. We've had a good time thus far. Syracuse folks are welcoming but all the sit staff remark on the Clemson fans ( no surprise)

  2. I'm becoming resigned to the fact that the Heisman hopes are dashed. The play of others is going to keep him out of contention. I believe he deserves it, but the national pundits are just not warming to him for some reason. The best we can hope for now is an NYC invite.

Now, we can focus on what I'm betting Williams agrees is most important - getting the 8th win. Let's get revenge on Syracuse and keep them out of bowl eligibility!

    ReplyDelete
  3. I hope the team is more geared up and focused than the many fans who somehow think this is going to be a relatively easy game.

    Go BC - beat Syracuse.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I can't imagine anyone in their right mind would think this is going to be an easy game. The teams are evenly matched, Syracuse is fighting for bowl eligibility, and it's on the road. We have our hands full today!

    ReplyDelete
  5. wow - Duke pulled it off.

Congratulations and nothing to lose next week.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Are we pumped up yet? I'm a bundle of anticipation and nerves.

We really need this after enduring the Two Stooges!

And Diamond Ferri for 9 years.

Let's take their will in their own building! Led by Matt Patchan.

  8. Syracuse is playing with a lot more energy so far. That punt by Freese must have been shanked.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I hate that low punt. If it doesn't hit the ground, you get a 25 yard return.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Team looks flat - travel-itis?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ouch, defense giving up major chunk plays early. Let's hope we can hold them to a field goal.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Inside of Syracuse Dome looks depressing

    ReplyDelete
  13. If we win, at 8-4, do we have bowl priority over UNC 6-6 (BC rule)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree, Mod. Why don't they turn a few lights on? I hate dome football.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Dodged a bullet there,

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well, it looks like Rettig still sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Dudek was wide open and Chase overthrew and too high.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Rettig is absolutely awful. How many wide open receivers has he already missed today? And Andre will be lucky to get 100 today. Syracuse has 9 in the box and can actually tackle.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I know it is early, not getting good vibe -yet.

    Big Mo must change

    ReplyDelete
  20. meant to say and too strong (hard).

    ReplyDelete
  21. Man, we look like MAC team today.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This has all the makings of a heart breaker.

Come on BC coaches - get these guys tuned in.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why is Freese punting so poorly? Isn't it easier to punt in a dome?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Don Brown needs to put on a hat - he looks more menacing that way. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Let's go Ryan Day.

They've got everybody in the box just about.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Andre is struggling, but let's not forget what's important here. We need a win. We can sacrifice Andre's Heisman for a victory. They are stacking the box so the play action is working, so long as Rettig can hit the wide open receivers.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Good adjustment... They are locked on AW.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That's right = open it up for Andre.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Why am I singing "Andre, Andre, Andre" to the tune of the soccer chant, "Ole, Ole, Ole.....Ole..Ole!"

    ReplyDelete
  30. That quick snap gets us a big play every game.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Man,the BC defense is giving up a ton of yards. Put a spy on Hunt.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's interesting: it looked like Andre had a 32 yard TD run...but he was only credited with a 24 yarder.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It just may be that BC is a slow starting team. They almost don't get going until the 4th quarter.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Get a spy on Hunt. Please!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Syracuse games can be brutal...My memory of 'Cuse games is filled with horror shows and heartbreaks--yeah, we've beaten 'em a bunch, but they really get up for BC games at their place. It's friggen Halloween and Christmas all at once--and they NEED this game to go bowlin' ... we need to be "tough tough tough tough tough tough tough" ( to steal a line from The Stones). Can't let them score in here.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I pretty much believed Andre's Heisman chances were over before the game even began. Now you can write the obituary and it is the defense's fault. They are going to be on the field all day and Wiliams is just not going to get enough touches. Further, the 'Cuse defense is coming out well-rested every series. He may get 100 to 150, but that is not even close to what he needs for Heisman consideration.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If Rettig can throw a few sweet accurate passes in this game, then Andre will have a beauty day... A Big If that. I want to believe...

    ReplyDelete
  38. ok guys. toughen up - especially on D.

    we miss Ramsey and Abdesmad.

    ReplyDelete
  39. We're getting a taste of our won medicine. Why does Syracuse always ruin our hopes? ALways! So friken frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We are officially in big trouble, just like I knew we would be.

    ReplyDelete
  41. A turn-over...a Rettig pass INT...and we can't stop these guys...C'mon Eagles!! Get TUFF!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  43. Boy oh boy, is this tough to watch.

Can't underestimate that we do not play well on road -- add a dome to that

    ReplyDelete
  44. This is not good. Forget trophies. We won't win this game if the defense doesn't improve.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous4:45 PM

That's going to leave a mark. OT question is meth addiction a big problem in upstate NY?

    ReplyDelete
  46. btw - i told my wife we would not travel o a bowl unless we win today.

that's how strongly i feel about it and effing syracuse.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Why can't freese punt today? wTF?

    ReplyDelete
  48. These turkeys ate too much turkey this Turkey weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  49. another shitty punt after another 3 and out.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Syracuse is doing what everyone else has. It is just other than the Naples pass, we are not doing anything to exploit their fronts.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Someone help me.
Drowning in a dee of drunken Orange here in the dome.
    Absolutely brutal in every facet.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Someone help me.
Drowning in a dee of drunken Orange here in the dome.
    Absolutely brutal in every facet.

    ReplyDelete
  53. We can't go down 21 to 7.

These guys had better wake up.

They are playing and looking like deer in the headlights.

Andre has had more runs for losses than probably all year.

    ReplyDelete
  54. This has 2004 written all over it and I blame the coaches, and the whole BC (we'll roll with Andre) community.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I agree ATL. Forget trophies. We just need something positive right now. You can officially retire #andre44heisman. We are going to get so far behind that we will be forced to abandon the run.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Chink play, after chunk play, after chunk play. This reminds me of the BC defense of the mid 90's.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Our Defense has turned a crap QB into an All-ACC player.

    Hard to watch

    ReplyDelete
  58. Too add, I hate the color commentary guy too.

    One of those days

    ReplyDelete
  59. I wasn't kidding about Don Brown wearing a hat.

He looks as lost as his players.

But really, Ryan Day should have been able - and still should be able to exploit the Syracuse defense.

We've got to get our D some time on the bench. I think they have 3 times as much time on the field as we do offensively.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Time to give Rettig the hook. BC has no chance of getting back into the game with him at the helm.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Alright, maybe I should keep saying that more.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Mr Day has a good imagination this drive!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Every time we open things up, good thing happen! Destroy the trophy! He was never going to get it anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  64. That was not how our former coach would have ended the half.

    ReplyDelete
  65. We pulled that TD play off against someone else earlier in the year.

Rettig showed some grit on the long pass to Amidon.

Okay boys - we have life.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Whew. Lucky to be down just 7

    ReplyDelete
  67. Good end to a rough half.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Why the surprise? This is how we rolled every time we lost this season...If we could game plan for BC this is what anyone would do...I'm going for a walk in the sun before I think about this too much. In the last 25 meetings vs. Syracuse, we have won 9 and lost 16. I just had a 1966 flashback when they beat us 30-0. SU is 28-18 all time against BC. These guys cried when we left the Big East...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Syracuse calls our TD drives Junk and baloney plays

    Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Did the coach just say that?!???? Lol I hope that someone relays that message to the locker room

    ReplyDelete
  71. That is Syracuse head coach doug marrone (is that his name?)

    ReplyDelete
  72. No scot shafer.

    Oops

    ReplyDelete
  73. Schafer clearly didn't watch enough tape. That "junk stuff" is our offense.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Well, I feel a little better but I am very concerned about the performance of the defense. However,to be fair, they were constantly defending short fields thanks to the offense sputtering and Freese punting horribly.

We need to forget the trophy and abandon the run, at least until they loosen up and take men out of the box. All season when we have opened it up, good things have happened. Take what they will give you and right now, they are not giving the run.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Dig Deep, guys. Boston College needs you to win today.

    Let's do it.

Dig deeper than you ever have before. We have enough time and you can do this.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Oh Boy - shoulder is acting up.

    ReplyDelete
  77. If he can't come back in there goes the hiesman chance

    ReplyDelete
  78. Please don't fumble, Mr. Willis. True freshman

    ReplyDelete
  79. Chase is playing heads up today.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Rettig has never done that, has he?

    ReplyDelete
  81. He's giving the ball to the kid from nearby Syracuse.

    Rouse.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Nice!!! Now let's go defense!

    ReplyDelete
  83. TD Sinkovek - brilliant drive.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Rettig's best work ofte year.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Williams heading to the locker room.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Lmao.....Was that junk jack@ss

    ReplyDelete
  87. It's quite evidence that Willis is better able to exploit the Syracuse run D by attacking the edges than Andre. Nice drive.

    ReplyDelete
  88. ATL, didn't you say earlier in the year Rettig should run more?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Williams is done I think

    ReplyDelete
  90. At the game ... Dre Will just went into locker room

    ReplyDelete
  91. Well hopefully he still gets an invite

    ReplyDelete
  92. Now we need the defense to toughen up.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Syracuse is pushing us around.

We need a turnover - we look lost.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Marcel, I doubt he gets an invite now. The dream is done. Let's focus on 8 wins now.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Bad bad tackling.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Syracuse 10-14 on third down. BC can't tackle either. Yowzer.

    ReplyDelete
  97. We should have stopped that. We can't tackle today.

    ReplyDelete
  98. We are 0-4 on 3rd down and and Syracuse is 10-13. Defense just can't stop this offense. So reminiscent of '04.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Another 3rd down conversion. Just can't stop them.

    ReplyDelete
  100. 4 down territory and no problem for Syracuse probably.

    ReplyDelete
  101. 4 down territory and no problem for Syracuse probably.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Mihalek will pick one of those off hopefully.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Daniels is playing well.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Williams back in the field and in the o line huddle

    ReplyDelete
  105. loosen them up with Willis and Sinkovek, etc and then Williams - boom!

    ReplyDelete
  106. This jumbo offense will work next year.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Oh, oh. Every time the offense fails to score, we are in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Sorta of a fun preview of next year

    ReplyDelete
  109. Well, we need a stop or a turnover.

On the one hand I like giving Rouse a chance in his hometown, but it didn't work.

It shows the coach believes in his players, so let's finish this off, BC. Do it for yourselves!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Defense is DUE for a turn over!!

    ReplyDelete
  111. Does anyone trust our d right now?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Asprilla got away with ahold

    ReplyDelete
  113. I believe. (ok, only a litte)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Just can't stop them. Are we cursed against Syracuse?

I guess this game does not really matter. 8 wins versus 7 does not mean a whole lot, but for some reason, I want this win.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Not many players getting breaks on our Dline or LBs

    ReplyDelete
  116. If he's ready, get Andre back in.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Don't agree. This is huge for us and 8 is much better than 7 for our bowl chances.

Sh t City or something good.

But I don't care about bowls right now - we must beat Syracuse.

    ReplyDelete
  118. The great duck run!!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Would be ironic if Rettig became the first 100 yard rusher against Syracuse this season instead of Andre.

    ReplyDelete
  120. The flying duck

    Wow

    ReplyDelete
  121. That series showed exactly the kind of offense Addazio wants to run going forward -- if Rettig can rack up yards, imagine a more dynamic QB in this offense....gonna be exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Does the bowl game count as season stats

    ReplyDelete
  123. I love it - go Chase Rettig - "You the Man!"

    ReplyDelete
  124. Let's go D - let's go Don Brown.

    Let's stop them now.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I knew we'd (almost) pick one of those.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Story of the game. You have them pinned and then you give up a 27 chunk play. Ughhhh!

    ReplyDelete
  127. We need a turnover. Someone needs to step up.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Can any DB make a play?

    ReplyDelete
  129. This is tough to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Hold them this series.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Huge 2 plays coming up.

    ReplyDelete
  132. We can win this!

    ReplyDelete
  133. Please don't tell me BC stalls on offense, Syracuse gets the ball back and then Norton nails a 40 yard game winner. Please, God, don't let this happen.

    ReplyDelete
  134. That kick was close, but good. For a second I thought it would slide out, but it stayed the course and maybe even came back in a little.

Oh boy - this is where conditioning will come into play.

I hope it's on our side.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Well, Rettig did what he needed to do...& the D held em for 3...If we can grind it out and score, these Orangemen are back to the juice factory, pure pulp.
    Let's Go Eagles!!

    ReplyDelete
  136. Open things up. The play action is there.

    ReplyDelete
  137. God, do you not hear my prayers?

    ReplyDelete
  138. 3 and out. Really disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  139. That was the biggest damn disaster of a possession. They didn't even try to get any yards.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Freese has been pitiful punting today.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Ugh. Don't feel great right now. Someone on d needs to step up. Do it for Andre.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Might have to start calling timeouts to give our offense some time. All we need is 1:30.

    ReplyDelete
  143. They have had great field position all day because of the pitiful punting.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Well---This sux...Man,...more Torture. Is there no relief from this? It's a 'Cuse thing...C'mon BC! We need a turnover, boys! Kick some butt!

    ReplyDelete
  145. Yes! I AM psychic!

    ReplyDelete
  146. I've been calling for it all day - yes!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  147. Yes!!!! Game is not over though. They have all their timeouts and a field goal does not help us much. We need a TD.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Weird that Syracuse called a timeout with the clock stopped.

    ReplyDelete
  149. That int was Chamberlin like.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Great time for a penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Dammit. Drive killing penalty. You can't make those mistakes in close games.

    ReplyDelete
  152. We might also need to use our timeouts to help our D.

Syracuse just burned their last TO.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I guess you can run a play, take the penalty and then kick the field goal from 5 yards back.

I really wanted the TD here.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I'm going to shut up until this is over.

    ReplyDelete
  155. WTF? Why pass to the sidelines and let them preserve clock?

    ReplyDelete
  156. You got to stay in bounds there.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Dumb dumb dumb....I still have a bad feeling. All it takes is a TD. Wouldn't be surprised to see BC play some sort of zone/prevent D.

    ReplyDelete
  158. They should have kept the play inbounds, run the clock down, take the delay of game or call a TO and then kick the field goal. That preserved about 30 seconds for them.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Syracuse just marching down the field at will.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Bad, bad, bad feeling about this.

    ReplyDelete
  161. More bad tackling.

    ReplyDelete
  162. We needed that touchdown. I knew that would haunt us.

    ReplyDelete
  163. The fell for the fake spike!

    ReplyDelete
  164. This is terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  165. BC not paying attention...AGAIN...just like last week.

    ReplyDelete
  166. I'm going to puke.

    ReplyDelete
  167. This is a bad, bad, bad loss. Lose to a 5-6 team! Pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Such a fucking stupid defense...They deserve to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  169. We blew this one...

    ReplyDelete
  170. Clearly, this program has a long way to go. We have to get to a point where we don't lose to North Carolina or Syracuse.

    ReplyDelete
  171. ugh....re: settling for FG on our last drive...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tIl4Y8HMUU

    ReplyDelete
  172. Prevent defense prevents another win. Horrible game management the last 8 minutes or so.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Bottom line is you have to score touchdown and if you can't do that, you have to manage the clock. Running a pass play out of bounds was idiotic.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Spaz-fucking-tastic

    ReplyDelete
  175. One lesson I always forget after watching 30 years of BC football. They will always, always disappoint. Since Flutie, we have never won a conference title, never played in a BCS game and never won a Heisman. They tease you, bring you ever so close, and then crush you. It never fails.

    ReplyDelete
  176. So, just so I am clear. No Heisman, Williams hurt, no 8th win, and still on the bowl bubble? Nice work boys, nice.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Again, I guess it does not really matter, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. 8 wins versus 7 is meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

I really worry about next year when we will not have the best kicker, running back and receiver in school history. Plus we will need to break in a new QB and somehow fix this horrible defense. Could be a tough season, but long term, Addazio will turn it around.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Well all I can say is hats off to Syracuse.

I thought we should have used our timeouts better.

I don't want to comment on the failure to score a TD or our failure to hold them to 74 yards or less with no timeouts.

That was like WVU in 93.

I am very disappointed, but our guys had a helluva season. We are better than Syracuse, just didn't appreciate how tough it is to win one of these games.

    Eagleboston didn't care - 7 and 5 or 8 and 4, but I did.

    Shrevesport here we come.

    ReplyDelete
  179. If you think about it, the loss makes Andre look even better. BC can't win when Andre doesn't play. Still no chance at a Heisman, no chance at a decent bowl....another disappointment.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I think if we had 8 wins, we could not be bypassed by a 6-6 team. Now, I believe, with ony 7 wins we can be bypassed in favor of any other ACC team for any bowl.

So. This was a bad loss

    Will we get a bowl?

    ReplyDelete
  181. It matters a little. With the 8th win, the hated 'Cuse would have been out and now they stand to steal a bowl slot. We would have been 5-3 in the ACC which would have prevented 2 teams from jumping us per the "BC Rule". So this win had some technical meaning aside from it just sucking that we're not 8-4.
You could say that unless you're 12-0, it does not matter, but that would be giving away most of the meaning for most fans.

    ReplyDelete
  182. They couldn't have denied us too badly at 8 and 4, but they sure can at 7 and 5.

Hell, we were 9 and 3 in 2005, and they sent us to Boise.

What's the crappiest bowl in our lineup? Here we come, but this game didn't mean anything.

I want to get in a fist fight right now.

    ReplyDelete
  183. The "BC Rule" only kicks in for ACC wins and losses, not overall wins and losses, I believe.

So a win today doesn't change that, except for that Syracuse is now bowl eligible and it wasn't before. But really that's not so bad for us, since the ACC shares bowl revenue amongst all its members.
