National Media mocking BC

They say that there is no such thing as bad publicity. BC is testing that theory this year. College Gameday took time on their show Saturday to highlight BC's potential embarrassing path. This is why BC's game against Wake is so important. The Deacons are not good and are shorthanded. They remain favored, but BC can win this game. Even if you don't care for Christian or Bates, hope for a win just to avoid more nonsense like this.

  1. BC has earned all of it. Between the facilities, game day experience, the teams we schedule, the ridiculous extensions we give our coaches who haven't achieved anything and whatever else I can't think of, the program currently sucks. The administration doesn't care. The AD obviously isn't accountable since he has no pressure on him. The coaches get afforded every excuse. The whole thing is a joke. We all deserve better. We're going on 10 years of ineptitude. Seriously, who's worse than us?

    1. Leahy is the issue. He's not a sports guy. Marquette alumni were ecstatic when the prior president and Leahy left. The basketball program immediately fixed itself (and oh yeah, they have a good scholarship men's lax program too). And can BC puh-lease stop going to the MAC for ADs and coaches?

  4. That clip is really sad. Boston College is a national laughingstock because of sports. It makes your blood boil.

  5. This is something that even BC Alumni that don't care about athletics need to see and get angry about. We're not just the laughing stock of our conference, we're the laughing stock of ESPN... of a internationally syndicated program based out of a backyard that, if used properly, should be a boon to our school. This is the opposite. This is the opposite of "ever to excel."

Like it our not, our Athletics reputation affects our academic reputation. It affects the students we'll attract. It affects the student experience. In the end, it affects future donors to the school.

All Alumni need to care about the demise of our Athletic program and start speaking up.

Father Leahy either needs to take a stand or get out of the way. Same with the Board of Directors. The direction they are leading Athletics in is not acceptable and they need to realize that and be held accountable.

  7. I welcome the publicity, perhaps this level of embarrassment will prompt someone to act. We have been expressing our thoughts for years, no one listened. A possible win at Wake tonight means nothing to me. Would I like to see it, of course, but that just shows how low we have fallen, we shouldn't be competing with Wake. We are on our 10th year of "rebuilding." Enough already.

  9. Two words: Flutie effect. Research actually shows that success in college athletics brings about good PR which attracts applicants. But maybe BC doesn't want any more applicants (they did add an essay to the application process to winnow out those more interested in BC as a backup school than as their first choice, in an effort to enhance "yield" and at the expense of overall applications.) Maybe they are perfectly happy to rest on their laurels, i.e., backsides.

There's no way at all that crappy major sports does anything good for a school.

  10. Who cares what these clowns, and other people like them think. I have always loved BC and always will. It comes from what I know in my heart, and will never change because of what some clueless idiots think. My answer to them is simple. Go F yourself.

  11. Hoib - how are they clowns or clueless? They're 100 percent right - this is completely unacceptable and loving BC doesn't change that

  12. Is Hoib saying that having love for your school, doesn't allow you to be critical? That's like saying being critical of our government makes you un-American. Hoib, get over yourself. We're not being unfair. We're not being mean. It's not that we don't love our school. The athletic department (save hockey) is a shit show. Hoib, show your love and acknowledge it

  13. What I'm saying is I'm not embarrassed. I don't care what these people think. I think we can fix our problems w/ in the BC family and shouldn't grovel to the outside world. If you don't feel as I do I'm sorry for you.

    1. I'm not embarrassed either. None of us should be embarrassed. The folks in charge in Chestnut Hill should absolutely be embarrassed however.

I just want to see improvement. How long will it take to see demonstrable improvement?

    2. If they are not embarrassed, they are basically stealing their salaries. Robbing the school of its money. Truly a crime

  14. it is currently 23-2 wake forest with 8 minutes to play in the 1st half. this is truly a disgrace.

  15. this BBall team is an all-time embarrassment. just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.

does Christian get fired immediately after this game ends?

  16. Hoib - you said we can fix our problems within the BC family. That's great - please let me know what you believe is going to happen and whether that will be enough. Because right now I don't see anything happening at any level. Part of the problem is that there is little to no pressure on entrenched individuals. And there is no outside or campus media with any interest (or guts) to confront these people and ask them some tough questions. So maybe a little public humiliation on a national sports show is a good thing to get people in higher places to start asking those questions.

  17. 30-4 Wake, with just under 5 to go in the first half.

  18. Major sports are a joke. No published plan to update facilities. What is going on over there. Yet they had the balls to charge 60 bucks a seat last weekend for the 'cuse game. They have no grasp on reality and will no longer get to grasp my wallet until changes are made.

  19. Hoib, someone should certainly be embarrassed that two major sports programs have fallen apart to this astonishing degree. When you love something, you want the best for it. We are not getting that, by a long shot, and it does a serious disservice to the athletes, other students, alums and the entire BC community. Perhaps this negative national attention might hold the feet of those in charge to the fire a bit; I certainly hope so. This level of ineptitude has repercussions and it can't be allowed to continue.

I'm at the point of feeling that if the basketball team remains winless in ACC play (and I see very little chance that they won't) Brad Bates should take full responsibility for his crappy hires and resign.

  20. They need to sign some northeast/Midwest inner city youth. These southern, pre-school and west coast players are pussies.

    Sorry you feel that way.

  22. Hoib doing his best trolling today. BC was losing 37-4 to Wake with 3:33 left in the first half. Let that sink in. They scored 4 points in 16 minutes and 27 seconds against a team that had one conference win all year and had an 11 game conference losing streak. I'm frankly embarrassed that I'm associated with this shit show. I had no intention of watching this game and never did, although part of me wishes I had so I could see some history. It's like watching a 55 car pileup during morning commute.

Sorry I have every reason to.

Wasn't my intention but judging from your reaction and others, I guess I'm troll for a day. I'll crawl back under my bridge now.
