In-game comments post: Clemson

Clemson is a great team, but they can be beat. We just need to play our best and play to win! Friday night at Alumni! Let's do this!

Leave your thoughts and comments below.

You can also follow me on Twitter.

P.S. After the game I am going to go on Periscope via Twitter. Send me any topics or questions you want me to discuss.

  1. I've got questions.

What is the nature of your relationship with the BC athletic department? How has it changed through different football/bball coaches? Athletic directors? To what extent, if any, do you have insight into the BoT's approach to competitive athletics? Why are you writing an e-book now and what unique insight will it have? Thanks.

As for the game, allow me to foreshadow...what do you think of Daz's post game comments re program- building, youth, and the inherent disadvantages BC has wrt recruiting?

Oh, and seeing as how you're an Atlanta transplant, did you hear Paul Johnson's comments this week wrt his disadvantaged program and its underwhelming commitment to excellence? Just as his new AD is coming on the job?

"You want to beat Clemson?" Johnson asked rhetorically after getting crushed. "Then invest in winning." I'm paraphrasing. Sounded to many as an excuse that locker rooms and pool tables determine one's fate. A shot across the bow for the new AD.

Tech is less hamstrung because of curriculum than it is the offensive playbook. But still, there seems to be a chasm widening between the haves and the lottery players.

  2. Good questions and observations, CT.

I'm just tuning into the game now and I'm afraid it will be a poor crowd for the #3 team in the nation.

On the other hand, perhaps this will be the loudest wake-up call so far for the BC Administration.

Stop digging, BC - please stop digging holes.

As far as the game goes, of course I hope I'm shocked and we play well. However, we don't have Tyler Murphy and a pretty good offensive line.

We put up 37 points against USC (I think) two years ago. We can't put up 37 against UMass or Buffalo. We surely won't do that against Clemson. We'll be lucky to get 10 points (I hope I'm wrong and we get more.)

I think it's more likely that Clemson will get 49 points or more than BC getting more than 10.

Therefore - Go BC - shut out Clemson. :-)

  3. No relationship with Bates and very little with current Athletic Department folks. Known many there over the years from being a student to blogging. Had varied relationships/communication with coaches and assistants over the years -- none that I would call close.

As for BOT stuff...all I get is gossip. My wife and I support BC so we get the occasional visits from Development folks and people involved in school initiatives. Rarely do they talk sports with us. We have been part of BC fundraising teams.

Why an e-book and why now? There are longer essay type things I've wanted to write that weren't really conducive to blogging. I've been looking for an outlet. I also answer more if/when I release it.

I did hear the Johnson stuff. I do think there needs to be a unified commitment at any school to have continued success. However, I think Johnson -- like many football coaches -- is way too thin skinned and whiney.

  4. How can anyone say we have a great defense when we gave up 7 touchdowns in Blacksburg? I guess the announcers have to say something in the pre-game.

They had better keep the cameras on the field, and not the stands.

Dabo talks about the short week and what a contrast with Addazio.

Look for some long bombs from Watson - hope he's off target.

    ReplyDelete
  5. From what I see/hear it's looking like a good crowd! Oh well, guess everyone will have to find something else to be negative and bitch about!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Cameras so far won't pan the stands.

This is my favorite comment and response - The game will be close early....... Response - Yes it will start 0 to 0 and therefore will be close early. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  7. Addazio wins the toss and defers. Oh boy!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Great defensive start.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Typical Daz. Something good happens and then he kills it going R-R-P.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Classic Addazio drive. Dive into the meat of the Clemson defense twice and then pass. 3 points is not going to do it against this team.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Run run pass. Brilliant!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Clemson's season is over!

    ReplyDelete
  13. the moral victory is now complete. we have shut out clemson for 1 drive and scored.

time to turtle for ret of game

    ReplyDelete
  14. We looked a gift horse in the mouth. Too bad - Towles almost had Calinan if he threw it earlier and low and away - but he threw it away.

I was really surprised that we ran it up the middle twice. NOT.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Brother at Alumni estimates 20,000 Clemson fans. Ouch!

    ReplyDelete
  16. and this is guaranteed better than VT loss. improvement by young guys

    ReplyDelete
  17. fuck mack brown. southern homer a-hole

    ReplyDelete
  18. That was bad. Bad defensive effort. Bad tackling.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well we can officially say that the defense flat out sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Take heart - we're a great come from behind team - so many weapons and tricky plays, etc.

But, we still have to establish the run - run that rock, coach. Run that rock up the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  21. #74 with another false start - his signature move.

    ReplyDelete
  22. That was so telegraphed. BC got a really generous spot.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Penalties are killing them. Don't like the run cal on 1st and 15. Tendencies are way too predictable.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Holding on a 2 man rush. That's pretty impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Towles is way to quick to throw it away

    ReplyDelete
  26. Clemson rushed 2 and our OLine couldn't hold them.

    ReplyDelete
  27. We cannot beat Clemson on the edge. This year. Any year. Up the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like Dabo. He seems pretty classy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. quite an impressive pass and catch

    ReplyDelete
  30. could Mack brown be a bigger clemson fan??? omg

    ReplyDelete
  31. Mike Williams. Sunday man.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If you did your video homework, you knew that Watson was ready for a bomb in that situation.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeesh the CB had no chance.

    ReplyDelete
  34. CB not in right position

    ReplyDelete
  35. Unfortunately, they can do this all night.

Will BC keep playing as hard as they can? I hope so.

Go BC - "don't give up; don't ever give up!"

    ReplyDelete
  36. Keep running into that run blitz on first down.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jesus Christ. Another run, run, pass possession.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Towles throws when he should run and runs when he should throw.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Another broken play.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tough to play for Addazio. He really is a stiff.

Another nice 24 yard punt by Knoll.

    The players have officially quit.

    ReplyDelete
  41. might have to go to shortened quarters in 2nd half

    ReplyDelete
  42. Clemson is on course to reach 80. Watch Daz come out with another run, run, pass special.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Jims and joes. Not x's and o's. Not tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ok - bring on Wade to add some potential spark.

Or, let's run it slowly up the middle.

Addazio/Loeffler are worse than Spaziani/Tranquill - and they were the worst of all time, up until now.

Will Dabo go for the record tonight - 52 points by Penn State at Alumni in 1982?

    ReplyDelete
  45. UGA would be so good with Watson. Didn't even recruit him. A UGA fan 30 mins from campus! Ha.

Of course, Richt offered Cam Newton a TE position, so there's that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. 34 yard punt. I guess that's better than his last one.

    ReplyDelete
  47. But our punts are killing 'em

    ReplyDelete
  48. Scuba Steve loves dive plays!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Where's Glines? Borgersen? Guys who are actually receivers?

Another great major college punt of 34 yards.

If Clemson scores quickly, I think we have all we need to know about Addazio and staff.

Time to pull an LSU - fire the HC and OC - and it's looking like the DC as well.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It is the second quarter and Clemson is already killing clock.

    ReplyDelete
  51. no one should be surprised by the score. on clemson's schedule this is the equvalent to clemson vs wagner.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Like a hot knife going through butter. BJK has some humor about it all. I would be looking for the nearest bridge.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ok Offense. Show us what you've got!!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Are there any FBS teams as pitiful as BC? Painful to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jeff Smith showing fight!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm at a bar and the screen is far away. Did BC put in a different QB?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Obviously we need a TD. Give it to Jones!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Too bad we didn't get 7 on that fumble recovery early.

    Need 7 here.

OLine doing better with Cashman - maybe because they can only block straight ahead, instead of all these stunts? Sorry Baker is hurt, though.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Why is this even televised?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hahahahaha what the hell was that? Fumbled snap twice in a row!

    ReplyDelete
  61. 5 Attempts and no score? The entire offense needs to turn in their man cards. Pathetic!

    ReplyDelete
  62. That's on Addazio. Predictable and execution issue.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Towles scored on 3rd down.

But so much for the new center.

Should have changed the call anyway. QB sneak was expected.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Holy shit. That wasn't even a QBsneak.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Bravesbill, they have the backup center in. But, the 2nd guy in needs to be better prepared.

    ReplyDelete
  66. 3 inches away?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Literally the same play as the 4th down offsides play. Literally the same damn result.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Who Qb'd that last drive?

    ReplyDelete
  69. They were pitching it from 3 inches out!

    ReplyDelete
  70. EB, the snap was fumbled twice in a row. No excuses.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ha. Daz. Ur a funny guy.

    ReplyDelete
  72. No snap issue if u sneak.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Bravesbill, I agree. Was Towles the QB?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Don't mind the Towles pass back. Let Smith throw it more.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Cashman has never been listed as the back-up Center - never.

    It has been Joel Rich.

Why put a guy in as center who has never played the position?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Mack Brown just gave some good insight into the second fumbled snap. Play is designed so QB goes one way and the center goes the other - with a backup center.

    Terrible play call.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yeah Towles was there for all 3 attempted sneaks.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I think Cashman was the starting center last year. He got hurt in the game Wade got hurt.

    I think that was him

    ReplyDelete
  79. Thr 4th down play was not going to be a sneak!

    ReplyDelete
  80. He was pulling away.

    ReplyDelete
  81. It wasn't a sneak it was a sweep.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Bring back mighty Wagner!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Clemson is quite capable of going down field and scoring with less than 2 minutes.

Come on, guys - hold em.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Another good defensive series.

    ReplyDelete
  85. 3 inches away. A sweep. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  86. We have not quit - so this is a credit to all involved in that sense.

    ReplyDelete
  87. This team has zero football IQ. Why not fair catch that punt? It would have given them 20 more yards.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Jones needs to touch the ball 15-20 times a game.

    ReplyDelete
  89. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Clemson is a bunch of stupid fucking rock rubbers.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Targeting for sure, but personal foul will stand.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Towles got hit in the neck.

    Targeting. White Trash.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Wow. This is the shit that got us going at Clemson when they targeted a sophomore Matt Ryan. That was a bad hit on a QB, and so was this.

Eff them in the second half.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Meh that wasn't targeting. Looked bad but it clearly wasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Steve kept his cool there. That was a missed call for the home team. Head snapped back.

This game could get chippy which is good for BC. This program needs to come together and find itself.

    ReplyDelete
  96. They just showed the 50 yards td run by Clemson again. HOLDING.

    ReplyDelete
  97. aside from the score and 3 monster plays, better O play and better play calling and better D than i expected.

    ReplyDelete
  98. It wasn't targeting. Towles clearly was not a defenseless player. There was no leading with the helmet or launching either.

    ReplyDelete
  99. still.. not good

    ReplyDelete
  100. Why did his head snap back?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Doesn't matter. If it's not helmet to helmet, the offensive player needs to be defenseless. Clearly he wasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Rooting for penalties! Go blog!

    ReplyDelete
  103. But an elbow to the throat of your QB is a dirty play and deserves retaliation in the form of eff you, Clemson. Hear we come, and you'd better get ready because you never know when we will deliver our own "hard tackle" on your QB, or WR, or TE, or RB.

    Eff all y'all!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Jeyhsus, I can't believe this game is only 1/2 over.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Come on. That isn't the difference. We are just not good.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Head snapped back because he was running upright and a great strong athlete Gave him a forearm shiver to the shoulder that her certainly wasn't prepared for. Clean hit on a runner...no question.

    ReplyDelete
  107. So a closeline is a "legal" hit in college football. Good to know.

    ReplyDelete
  108. CT...not good is an understatement...we are terrible.I only watch now to see if they actually disappoint to the downside...and they always do! They have to can this clown.

    ReplyDelete
  109. A clothesline on a runner is a legit hit. Correct.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Knuckle he clearly hit him in the shoulder. He's just a big puss who shouldn't be running upright.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Wish we had an OLine like we did back in 2005. I don't want us to play dirty, but I want BC to stuff it down their throat like we did in 05.

That's the retaliation. Get pissed off and rock these guys!!!

And as hard as you hit them in the 3rd quarter, you haven't seen shit and just wait until the 4th quarter. BC football of old.

But if you don't have the personnel, some finesse is okay, coach.

Go BC - rock these guys. Keep trying and get the ball into the end zone.

This is a 21 to 14 game, really. Towles scored on 3rd down and we could have/should have gotten 7 early, and Clemson was holding on their long run.

We're really not getting killed, so let's play all out.

    ReplyDelete
  112. What were the defenders arms doing up at his neck and facemask? Looked like the White trash thought the big puss wasn't going to go down and the white trash wanted to make sure the big puss went down.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Knuckle, it's a legal hit. Don't know what you're looking for.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I just took a screenshot of it...can text it to you...his forearm hit the ball (knocked it loose) and then rode up into his shoulder.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Love that Daz got the excuses in with McGrath at half.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Ha thought the same thing, ATL

    ReplyDelete
  117. I want Wade put in.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Does Daz survive another o-fer-ACC season? Our offense looks as lame as last year, almost

    ReplyDelete
  119. I agree with ALT - it's time to move on from Towles. Probably a great guy, but we need to prepare for the future now. We need new direction, new blood, new enthusiasm, a new approach, etc.

    Do it now.

BTW - another terrible major college football punt.

    ReplyDelete
  120. that looked like a push off. not that it matters.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Bring on Wade, please. Show the fans that you are not afraid to make a decision.

If you go RRPP again, or PRRP, or PRPP with no imagination to get the ball past the line of scrimmage, I'll yell at the TV and go watch political pundits - which I hate to do.

But if we stick with the same old - it's insanity. And very sad.

    ReplyDelete
  122. addazio looks defeated.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Addazio is defeated. He is a horrible coach and recruiter.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Wade, Wade, Wade, Wade, Wade.....................

    ReplyDelete
  125. He should the team he is responsible for is not good.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Towles is just waiting too long.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Can you believe how bad his - emphasis his - OLine is?

    ReplyDelete
  128. They take out goalies in hockey. Give Towles a break if for no other reason.

Hey Coach - get in the game. We're tired of the "Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley" routine.

What you have no answers? No idea how to try something different to maybe add a little spark? No idea when it's appropriate to give a QB a break? How about no idea when to make the decision for the future.

Promote Towles to Graduate Assistant Coach.

    ReplyDelete
  129. McLaery getting killed tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  130. mcclary has looked absolutely terrible

    ReplyDelete
  131. pooch kick... asshole move

    ReplyDelete
  132. When Clemson gets to 35, it's time to make that change, Coach. There is really no risk to you - only if you don't.

Well, they just did with ease.

Let's go, Coach. Make a decision, like Jack Bicknell.

I'm sure the stands are emptying out fast. How do you like that, Brad? You're gone in a couple of months anyway. You're a ghost. Sasquatch - nobody ever sees you.

Thanks for coming to Boston. We'll be better next year, Brad - that's what you said in Dublin.

    You're a sorry individual, IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  133. BC is just a scrimmage now for CU...

    ReplyDelete
  134. Dabo going Lou Holtz on the Eagles with the "onside kick"

    ReplyDelete
  135. Can't understand what is happening. TV announces said we had two of the best coaches in America in Addazio and his pisan Pasqualoni. Now they sat it is just one of those days for BC. Score now 35 to 3. Addazio announces after game team is improving. Lots of young players. Did not get shut out. Announces have nothing but praise for Titles.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Wow - 8 blockers in the Power Package.

    ReplyDelete
  137. They should keep pulling the guard at Boulware. He needs to be flattened.

    ReplyDelete
  138. No reason to continue to okay Towles unless Wade is just that much worse. If that's the case - just kill me now. In the words of Matt Damon in the Departed: "just fucking kill me".

    ReplyDelete
  139. Why give it to Hilliman?

    ReplyDelete
  140. Wolford in the flat.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Knuckle - Josh Beekman would have taken care of #10 Boulware. No matter the play.

    ReplyDelete
  142. How bad must Wade be if he can't even get into the game?

    ReplyDelete
  143. This is unbelievably sad. Just a few years ago, we were defeating Clemson to go to the ACC Championship game. Then, DeFillipo made the devastating decision to put an unproven assistant as the head coach. Spazoo destroyed the BC program and I despise him for ruining what TOB and Jags built. Gene should be stripped of the BC HOF recognition. Then, Bates comes in and hires a guy who could not win at Temple. We are now 0-11 in ACC conference games. We are a laughing-stock in the ACC. So sad.

We currently have the NFL MVP candidate in Ryan and the NFL defensive player of the year in Kuechley. We are a proud program that is now at the depths of depression. Addazio is not the answer. We need a proven winner. P.J. Fleck is the answer. Row the boat!!!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Programs are in deep shit when 5th yr transfer beats out...

    ReplyDelete
  145. Yeah or Chris Snee the all time best pulling guard in Giants/BC Eagles history.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Any idea what the attendance is?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Wow, it's amazing what a little imagination will do, eh, Coach?

Well we got the 10 points I predicted. Hope we get more.

They shut me up sticking with Towles.

Our students don't look anything like my classmates when I was at BC. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  148. Landry still playing hard.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I agree with EagleBoston - GDF should be stripped of his HOF recognition. He put himself in there anyway.

Let's start a petition. What a pitiful and sorry individual.

Many BC players still playing hard - and Landry is a tough guy for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Jesus, when I was a kid I wanted to go to Yale and play lacrosse. Failed at both but tried. That little shit is doing rap moves and dreaming of getting into Clemson

    Society is pretty much fucked.

    ReplyDelete
  151. 4 and 2. No FG.

I hope Watson tears his ACL.

    ReplyDelete
  152. The other thing that frustrates me is we are one of only 2 Power 5 Catholic colleges and we let Catholic players go elsewhere. My alma mater has won 3 state championships and BC has not even sniffed at their players. One former player is now the star wide receiver for Michigan. BC did not even send him a letter. It does not even require that much effort to recruit the best Catholic players at the best Catholic high schools. Just pure laziness.

    ReplyDelete
  153. they are on track for the 49 to 10 victory. Just need one more to match VT and with a little effort can break Penn State's 52 points.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Addazio will remember this like Tom Coughlin did.

He'll get his revenge next year. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  155. This is not as bad as VT. A shutout is pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I.......despise.....Addazio.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Penn State's 52 points at Alumni in 1982.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Getting up at 6am and running is too draining for Addazio. He had jetlag for three weeks after Ireland - it is a 6 hour trip.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I think the players need to revolt and tell these coaches to take a seat.

    ReplyDelete
  160. RRPP- here comes another 30 yard punt.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Any BC guys in the coaching ranks? We need to develop our own talent stream. Guys like the Hasselbacks, Paul Peterson, Herzlich, some of the former NFL linemen from BC. We need BC guys to go into coaching and give us a future talent pool.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Hey, we have a bye week coming up, so we can tear Syracuse a new one. They won't know how to prepare for and defend this potent offense.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Guys try hard but so what. Guys don't quit but so what. Best hearted guys in America but so what. What counts is wins.

    ReplyDelete
  164. They need to revolt and fight Clemson.

Onside kicks and going for it on 4th down up by 25? Disrespectful as it gets. Schwab hits Watson there on the goaline on the last TD and then apologizes. That is fucking pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I'll be at the last game in Winston Salem.

Chances we will still be looking for an ACC win?

    ReplyDelete
  166. At this point, I'm interested to watch Clemson's second string run it and short pass it vanilla style to another TD.

    Run it up, Dabo.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I think Dabo is running it up. Don't know why. Clemson fans say he never does it.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Give Wade a chance, for crying out loud.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Another noncompetitive performance against a conference foe. I didn't think Daz would win another conference game as BC's HC after Dublin and still don't. Not getting better and softening the schedule just softens the players. Shameful/embarrassing.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I don't think Boulware would pass a background check. He is trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  171. At least Wade tried there.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Addazio - you are a sorry excuse for a Head Coach and a sorry excuse for a leader.

When you give a guy like Wade a chance, let him try to make some plays.

    RRPP - pitiful.

Was that a 40 yard punt? Wow! First one in 3 weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Dabo running it up?!?!?!?
He could hardly go easier if he tried.
This could be sooooo much uglier if he wanted it to be.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Towles didn't try at all. What is the infatuation with Wade. He cannot see over the line, cannot run and I have never seen him throw a pass longer than 10 yards.

I don't see the potential there.

The line sucks. It doesn't matter who plays QB.

Doug Flutie or Mike Vick would suck with this line.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Clemson is piling it on in garbage time. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  176. James D. is probably right, unfortunately.

    Could we possibly go 0 - 16?

Thanks Fr. Leahy - this one's on you!!!!
