In-game comments post: Maryland

It is our last game of the year and a chance to finish with a winning record. It is also BC's chance to end the bowl losing streak. Let's do this!

  1. Let's go, BC - beat Maryland. You can do it, in spite of your head coach's ultra conservative offensive play philosophy.

We are 12 and 9 during my experience with Bowl games, losing the last 5 after winning 8 in a row. We are streaky, to say the least.

Since Spazadufus took over for the fired Jagodzinski for the Music City Bowl in 2008 (9 and 4 BC losing to 6 and 6 Vanderbilt, a team that hadn't been to a bowl in many years)we have averaged under 18 points a game in 5 loses. Our 30 points against Penn State was an anomaly.

We have reason to believe that nothing will change today. As Phil Steele said BC wants this game in a phone booth, keep it close and (try to)win it late.

We lost our first game in Dublin 17 to 14 and we won our last game in Winston Salem 17 to 14. That might well be the score today as well. That's our average in Bowl games since DeFildicko ruined the program. As Mod would say - DeFilippo - one L for Loser and two Ps for Piss Poor.

First play of the game for BC - #32 up the middle. How will Maryland possibly prepare for that? :-)

And so, Go BC Players - you are capable of beating Maryland and we know you are and we are rooting for you. Let's get the job done today. We'll take 17 to 14 and we'll be very happy with it. But we know you are capable of scoring 35 points today, excepting that you have one hand tied behind your backs.

  2. In contrast, we averaged 30+ points in our 8 straight victories.

    Duh!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Maryland's helmets are an embarrassment.

    ReplyDelete
  4. BC playing tempo and of course screw up the formation.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Callinan has to grab that.

    ReplyDelete
  6. 83 - step it up or take a seat.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Never need an excuse for day drinking. But watching Callinan try to catch the oblong orb speeds the consumption rate.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Nice defensive series for BC.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Let's try Borgersen, Glines, Thaddeus Smith, someone who might catch a pass from the WR position.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Multiple assistants are signaling plays and all wearing different neon shirts. New way to get plays in.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Subterfuge is critical with this dynamic offense.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That was a really nice drive. Tempo and OLine really made the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  13. OL looks a lot better so far.

    ReplyDelete
  14. JUST IN: sources close to Daz say he is being considered for UCONN opening. Says it's his "dream job."

TC for AD & HC in 2017

    ReplyDelete
  15. #32 looks like his old self.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Glad to see the special teams unit clicking after a month of rest.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Missing the PAT is frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Consider that the missing 49th point later on. Mercy miss.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hopefully that block won't come back to haunt us. The guy was almost unblocked coming in.

    ReplyDelete
  20. We look pretty good so far, with some breaks by MD miscues.

    Go BC.

    ReplyDelete
  21. We look like Oregon without the talent or production.

    ReplyDelete
  22. That was an ugly BC drive.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Didn't take advantage of field position there. We have to score.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mike Mamula time!

    ReplyDelete
  25. The refs are quick with the whistle.

    ReplyDelete
  26. OK - let's pick up the defense, BC and use what they have given us.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Somebody played the 1994 Aloha Bowl game in bowl prep meetings.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Called a T.O. for that?

    ReplyDelete
  29. JUST IN: Maryland appears to be as good at playing football as Daz is coaching it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I bet Tommy Sweeney's favorite movie is The Departed.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Towles should run more. He's agile for a big fella.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Love to see a score here.

    ReplyDelete
  33. MD missed a long TD already. On that missed crossing. They missed an INT. They missed another big gain on a similar crossing pattern. I do believe we finally found another P5 team with inferior talent.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That was another great drive.

    ReplyDelete
  35. MD didn't study film. :-)

    Great play, BC.

    ReplyDelete
  36. CT - I agree that MD has made some big mistakes so far. Let's hope they keep it up. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Let's get another TD here and not settle for a FG.

MD is bound to wake up at some point, no?

    ReplyDelete
  38. 2nd string TE would be a good option out of the TO.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think that long snap was the highlight of our season.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 7 would have been nice there. Let's go Defense.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Their Center MVP'd that play

    ReplyDelete
  42. Damn that Maryland RB smoked the BC defense.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Even when we play well, we give up big plays.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Let's get a first down here, punt, flip the field, put our best unit back out there to win this game. 16 is more than they have a right to ask for.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Let's answer here. Otherwise we lose all momentum.

I think we can score on these guys, as long as we don't shoot ourselves in the foot.

With out type of offense, we can't afford to make any mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Wow that was a nice play with good execution. Shocking!

    ReplyDelete
  47. College football - check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Great answer. Now let's get back to shutting them down.

    ReplyDelete
  49. OK Defense, shut these guys down on this drive.

Congratulations BC, for deciding to play college football by mixing it up.

We have talent - let's keep using it!!!!

Go Scot Loeffler - break out of the phone booth mentality.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Chronically under-used Myles Willis. Proud of the Marist kid! Coach Chadwick must be proud. Probably only got hit 800 times on Friday nights with that triple option.

    ReplyDelete
  51. BC needs to get better on kick-off coverage.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Let's get a stop or turnover.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Harold Landry just got owned on that TD run.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Smoked the defense again. Yeesh.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Wow. We will have to keep scoring.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Johnson may single-handedly win this game for Maryland. BC defense better wake up.

    ReplyDelete
  57. What surprised me was the way the announcers praised our defense in the pregame analysis. Did they watch the blow-outs by every quality team we played?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh boy - here we go. Let's hope I'm wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  59. These guys need to regroup.

    ReplyDelete
  60. MD is saying Landry won't beat us today. So far, so good.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Take announcer's comments with a grain of salt. They are mouth pieces for coaches in these games. Same goof ball said things are looking up at BC, that BC has a stud freshman QB waiting in wings, and that their recruiting is going great.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ha. Their QB. Hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Come on - take advantage.

    ReplyDelete
  64. too long for a field goal and a punt does not gain you much.

    ReplyDelete
  65. No WRs and no QB=bad combo.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Turned it over on downs and stopped the clock for MD. Wow.

I like playing to win, but let's not be stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Kinda sad a 48ydr is out of range.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Looked like a catch

    ReplyDelete
  69. What idiot runs in front of the punt returner? Special teams needs to get things cleaned up.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Is Daz coaching ST too?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Some scary moments in the last five minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ha, cool that McClarey's dad co-wrote Brick House.

    ReplyDelete
  73. That's too funny. Great play calling.

Daz decided to let his guys play.

    ReplyDelete
  74. See Addazio, when you attack, attack, attack, great things happen. Loved that he did not take a knee there.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Nice pass and catch. Towles has been pretty sharp throwing today.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Oh Jesus. We're back to this crap again.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I hope those 2 points don't come back to haunt us.

    ReplyDelete
  78. For the love of God, let's get a kicker for next year!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Read option inside the 10? MD cheerleader coach!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Fantastic defense and turnover and TD. Merritt has made some big plays today.

I'm not sure who recovered that, but it looked like Finance Kavalec.

    Go BC.

    ReplyDelete
  81. This has been a pretty fun game!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Harris looked like he pulled a muscle.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Meanwhile #55 is holding Landry on the play - it was blatant.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Lord. This pass def is less than good. Man to man up 23?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Their qb is not good. Make him use a 2nd or 3rd option.

    ReplyDelete
  86. We'll have to keep scoring for sure.

Maryland hasn't done much - except for 3 big plays.

We have to prevent these big plays somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I hope that's not an indication that Addazio has gone to the RRPP already.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Now momentum has swung to the Terps. Need to stop them now.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Now that was the Daz we know and dislike. Why ask an unathletic oline to block on roll-outs?

    ReplyDelete
  90. This is un-fricken-believable. Turn around to the ball!!

    ReplyDelete
  91. This pass defense is awful.

    ReplyDelete
  92. What the hell is the secondary doing? Where's the pressure on the QB?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Wow. Play some zone or something.

    ReplyDelete
  94. How can our DBs be do embarrassingly inept. It's like they are paralyzed.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Well, we have all seen this story before. BC has momentum and then completely gives it away. Why do we put ourselves through this misery time and time again?

    ReplyDelete
  96. I think #55 is holding Landry. But we have to get some pressure on their QB for sure.

Also, Landry is not quite ready to go pro if they can hold him off like that.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Hilliman finds holes like Geraldo Rivera finds treasure.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I know this is a meaningless game, but BC has not won a bowl game since 2007 and it would be nice to end the year with a win.

    ReplyDelete
  99. This is a critical drive. Need to stop them.

    ReplyDelete
  100. That penalty on Lowery killed momentum and the drive.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I am getting worried.

    ReplyDelete
  102. unreal - was that false start on Lowery again?

    ReplyDelete
  103. That's 2 today, which is about his average.

    ReplyDelete
  104. blatant holding on Landry.

    ReplyDelete
  105. BC definitely playing not to lose on both sides this half. Great coaching Daz.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Okay, let's play to win.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Dazoshit has gone conservative. Look familiar? What a horrible coach.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Maryland is lining up 10 in the box. Time for some play-action. Please, Daz, do not turtle-up yet again.

    ReplyDelete
  109. That would be refreshing.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Why doesn't Willis get more carries?

    ReplyDelete
  111. The kicker is going to blow this game for BC. Just like the kicker did 2 years ago. For shame.

    ReplyDelete
  112. bad snap? how can we be so bad on place kicking?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Missed field goal. Deja-vu.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I could see that coming a mile away. First, they need to start running routes beyond the first down marker. 2nd, don't kick a field goal in that situation. It was barely in Knoll's range. 3rd, stop with these 2 yards and a cloud of dust runs to Hilliman. Run Willis.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I agree about Willis too. Get him the ball.

    Come on, guys.

    ReplyDelete
  116. What the flying f was that? Nice tackling jokes.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Landry was completely held on that big run.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I was predicting a 44-29 loss at half. Might not be too far off.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Our defense looks like a Chinese fire drill.

    ReplyDelete
  120. This is getting scary.

    ReplyDelete
  121. good stop and good call and good luck on the bad snap.

    Let's make good on this.

    ReplyDelete
  122. The O-line is getting a little lazy on the blocking. C'mon guys, you have all offseason to rest.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Towles has looked bad in the second half.

    ReplyDelete
  124. The o-lineman needs to hit that defender as he is going in the air. He just stood there looking at him. Lazy!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Towles hasn't really had a chance this half. Conservative play calling will put you in a ton of third and longs. That's the reason Maryland has 4 sacks this half. BC has become hilariously bad at this point now.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Please hold them to a FG here or a turnover.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Interesting call here. Taking the hold will back them up, but do you want to give them another shot?

    ReplyDelete
  128. Finally - they called a hold on Landry.

    ReplyDelete
  129. What a freaking stupid penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  130. That was almost a good play. Oh boy.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I think BC should have declined that holding penalty. Too many bad things can happen when you give a team another shot.

    ReplyDelete
  132. More piss poor tackling.

    ReplyDelete
  133. We've got our 2nd best unit on the field to win the game.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Dumb Addazio. He just does not get game situations. You decline the holding and make them attempt a field goal. Now, they are going to score a TD. Such a flipping idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Makes sense, Eagleboston.

Oh boy - this is being set up for a 1 point loss due to missed XPs and FG.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Disagree. 3rd and forever. He didn't facemask.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I won't fault him for taking the second hold. Odds were pretty minuscule they'd get a td or convert a first down. Taking the penalty out then out of fg range for the most part. Still up 2 possessions. Yeah

    ReplyDelete
  138. Scratch that, I'm glad they took the penalty :)

Now the BC offense must get a couple first downs.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Please don't do anything dumb here.

    ReplyDelete
  140. MD did it. Gotta believe in incompetence!

    ReplyDelete
  141. I revert to my 5:47 post. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  142. Bravesbill, remember the Georgia Tech game? You can never go with odds with a BC football team. Tech converted a 4th and 18.

    ReplyDelete
  143. It seems the best offense for BC is to leave the defense on the field to kill the clock.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Good call Big Jack.

Offense has been non-existent this half. The BC D has got to be getting tired. BC needs to get a first down to help them out.

    ReplyDelete
  145. This is going to be the longest 3:19 of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Run it. Make them burn a TO. Kick it.

    ReplyDelete
  147. We have been held in check the entire second half - thank goodness for that fumble recovery in the endzone.

How many first downs do we have this half?

    ReplyDelete
  148. This is utterly laughable.

    ReplyDelete
  149. His insistence to play Hilliman over Willis is insane.

    ReplyDelete
  150. You can't make this sh^@ up.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Hilliman just cost himself money. Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  152. Addazio is playing right into their hands.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Literally the worst football ever.

    ReplyDelete
  154. How this dipshit can keep his job after this second half disaster is beyond belief.

    ReplyDelete
  155. This is what you get when you have a coach playing not to lose vs. playing to win.......

    ReplyDelete
  156. Run up the gut.
    Run up the gut.
    Run up the gut. Fumble.
    Genius.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Maryland knew that it would be #32 up the middle 3 times. That's Addazio's history, especially in the 4th quarter with a slight lead.

    ReplyDelete
  158. This is Div 2 ball

    ReplyDelete
  159. Really surprised Ty Johnson did not get a touch. That makes zero sense.

    ReplyDelete
  160. BC will run it up the middle 3 times here. Maryland will get the ball back with around 2 mins left. BC will then go into a prevent defense and will lose.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Now the extra points become huge.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Oh the missed kicks are going to haunt us

    ReplyDelete
  163. Okay - bring on the "Hands" Team.

If we recove the on side kick, we can take a knee; time out MD; take a knee: time out MD; take a knee, let the clock run down to 1:30 seconds; punt and hold on.

    Daz-Ball. Catch the excitement.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Daz is Latin for imagination

    ReplyDelete
  165. One first down ends it. Dazeroo?

    ReplyDelete
  166. They need to pass for the first down. Can't let them get the ball back as a TD wins it for Maryland.

    ReplyDelete
  167. One first down would win this game, but here comes #32 up the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  168. There's the three runs up the middle. Maryland will get the ball with about 1:50 left.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Holy shit. A boot?

    ReplyDelete
  170. Why does Addazio think this will work? It has not worked all season. I fricken hate tis clown head.

    ReplyDelete
  171. A run pass option would have worked better than another run up the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Wow. That is AMAZING! With those TOs and sacks...

    ReplyDelete
  173. Addazio really sucks. Excuse my language.

Bravesbill was correct about the time. I was off by 30 seconds.

If Maryland scores to win the game, Addazio should be fired before he arrives back in Boston.

Take the CT job, Addazio. Go home.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Watch the deep ball down the seam. He's tried it 4 times

    ReplyDelete
  175. Even with talent, Daz wouldn't know what to do. He is Les Miles Light.

    ReplyDelete
  176. turtled georgia tech; turtled maryland. bookend season

    ReplyDelete
  177. Hope they win but understand who they are playing. Maryland lost to both Ohio State and Michigan by more than 55 points. Much like BC getting crushed by all the good teams they played

    ReplyDelete
  178. Addazio is a genius.

    Landry was held all night.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Defense bails BC out. Offense only scored 7 points all half. How many first downs did they get?

    ReplyDelete
  180. First bowl win in nearly a decade!

    ReplyDelete
  181. Correction EB. The offense scored 0 points in the second half. That was a defensive td.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Agree with 6:18 post. But if one maintains hope, gotta crawl first. This is an avg team. Good defense in spurts. Bad in others. Daz has one yr left. This changed nothing. Except why Willis didn't play more. The coaches suck.

    ReplyDelete
  183. I am anxious to see our offensive stats for the second half.

Congratulations players for winning - thank you.

I'm glad we won, of course - but I am very unhappy with sitting on the lead for the entire second half. That's what it seemed like. Especially the 4th quarter.

    Thank you, seniors.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Willis doesn't play more why?

The coaches are not D1 ready.

Towles should've run more. Hilliman less. Smith more. Callinan is not good. It's scary that our wr position is so bad.
