In a big upset, the BC women lost their first game since November and their first home loss since 2013. Northeastern built a 2-0 lead. BC fought back to cut it to 2-1 but never we able to get that second goal. The loss is disappointing, but the streak should be respected. It was a great run and this team will probably start another one soon.
The Men's team -- hoping to bounce back from the Beanpot -- lost 6-3 to Merrimack.
It seems that the rare times that you post about hockey, it's a report of negative news.
ReplyDeleteConsidering that the hockey program is the only consistent sport here at BC, perhaps reporting the good news would be more appropriate.
Otherwise, why bother reporting hockey at all?!
This is not the way you want to head into the postseason.

ReplyDeleteThe worst season in 20 years. Very young team. No Defense. Only 1 real NHL prospect.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe our hockey stars are essentially one-and-done Mercs. I always brag that at least our jocks graduate. Guess I can't say that anymore.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't one and done. They stay for 2-3 years now(recent trend) and used to stay for 3-4. Looking back before York some of the best players that went to BC didn't stay for more than 1-2 years . . . Brian Leetch, Roenick, Joe Mullen.
ReplyDeleteLets not be so dramatic.
Mullen played 4 years. Roenick was on campus for 2 days. Through 2000 most stayed 4 years. Graduating is a different story
DeleteAnd leetch?
DeleteWas it Kevin stevens then?
DeleteAn earlier blog indicated our best players from last season left after sophomore year. So it's two and done.
ReplyDeleteGE, the one or two year thing has become very common in college hockey in general. See how many defections BU has after this year. The Eagles will probably lose Colin White to Ottawa. Most of the players who leave after 3 years do come back and graduate, though it takes them 6 years instead of the 5 year maximum to count for the APR for the NCAA.
ReplyDeleteKnucklehead is right (OK, Roenick didn't belong in there since he did stay just 2 days) in that leaving early isn't a new thing. Cory Schneider left after 3 years, Brian Dumoulin after 2 years, I think. In general, our jocks do graduate within 5 years. Hockey is the exception to the rule through no fault of BC.
No fault of BC? Are you kidding me? What ever happened to the concept of the STUDENT-athlete. In effect, BC is now no better than Kentucky in basketball and FSU in football. I know. I know. I know! Winning is all that matters. Disgraceful!
ReplyDeleteBoyle, Krieder, the Hayes kids, Gaudreu, Panthers D guy all stayed longer than expected.
ReplyDeleteLonger than expected? Did they graduate? What about the rest, Knucklehead?
ReplyDeleteGeorgia York's recruits usually stay 3-4 years. Not 1-2. That is the point. Case by case I dont know. Going off memory. Don't have time to research it for you.
ReplyDeleteThe school has good graduation rate overall in athletics. Would be surprised if men's hockey is comparable to kentucky basketball.
ReplyDeleteDo you go to BC?
Or did you go to BC?
ReplyDeleteClass of 74. Don't you dare imply I'm a troll.
ReplyDeleteAny comparison between Boston College and Kentucky makes me question a person's perspective. Strange.
ReplyDeleteI'm comparing bringing in jock mercenaries for a couple of years. How can you be so obtuse?
ReplyDeleteWorst season in 20 years? 2008 we didn't qualify for the tourney and there was another one in early 2000's that was worse. We are missing that spark on offense, there isn't a go to guy when we need a goal, despite solid contributions from many. That makes it tough. Joe Wall going through some growing pains and the defense at times looks lost. But have faith in Jerry and the staff. Lets try to get into the tourney, get some experience even if we lose Round 1 and be back next year with the majority of the roster intact. We are a victim of our own success for kids leaving early, and if they are going to the NHL, they deserve to go and I wish them well. We will also have more than 1 NHLer on this current roster, we just need a little more time to gel. I also agree the money of the NHL will lead to many early defections from BU, so they better win it all this year. Anytime you get frustrated with BC Hockey, we are flat out spoiled, and thank your lucky stars that hockey has distracted you from football and basketball
ReplyDeleteBad day for hockey and a normal day for hoops (losing to GT)
ReplyDeleteTwo teams over the last 20 years are worse, maybe. Look up the rosters of those teams and in a rational manner compare the rosters to the current team. This team is the worst. Despite that they are trending toward making the tournament again.
ReplyDeleteGeorgia, you are making my point.
