Baseball gets much needed sweep

For the first time in two years, BC Baseball swept n ACC series. The final win came on a complete game shutout from Brian Rapp. BC improved to 6-15 in ACC play. Hopefully this is a sign of a late season rebound. Next up, the team takes on UMass-Lowell on Tuesday.

  1. In other words, baseball remains in last place and is the worst team in ACC baseball.

  2. Given the number of preppies at BC, wouldn't we stand a better chance of becoming a lacrosse power rather than continue spinning our wheels with baseball?

  3. agree Georgia eagle.

part of the reason there is less baseball talent in the Northeast is that for the last 40 years many talented H.S. athletes have opted for lax for Spring sport over baseball. Go to towns in NJ, CT, MA, NY and you'll see you boys and teens holding lax sticks.

Nobody is playing "fungo" any more. i bet 1/2 the youts on this page do not even know what "fungo" is. Today's kids don't have baseball mitts or baseballs either.

Lax. BC is built for it. And that new baseball field at BC will make a for nice lax field too.

  4. Yea, Mod. Sadly, baseball is dying in this country. Only Hispanics are keeping MLB alive. When I was a kid in NJ, we all played sandlot baseball. Try and find kids doing that now.

  5. It is still very popular outside of new England. Let's be realistic.

Lacrosse is an active sport that lends itself to poor weather play.

Baseball is highly sedentary. Try hitting a baseball with a metal bat when it is 40 degrees out in April.

  6. That being said, BC should switch to lacrosse.

Going from that to the demise of baseball is melodramatic.

  7. Knuck, NOBODY plays pick-up baseball anymore. Today's kids just aren't interested. Not being melodramatic.

  10. You miss the point. It's more popular. Geez, you are hard-headed.

  11. Nope. Baseball is more popular overall. Lets not be melodramatic.

  12. Baseball has some serious issues down the road. Very few kids playing the game (especially unorganized) compared to prior years. Cost of MLB games, focus on night tv games ending too late - especially playoffs and Series - constant trades/lack of player connection and there is a lack of interest among younger males. Out sized focus on money over so many years by MLB and too little on maintaining fan base. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/laura-hanby-hudgens/the-decline-of-baseball-a_b_9630782.html

  13. Whether we like it or not, BC has become largely a rich kids school and lacrosse is largely a rich kids sport. A recent study found that 56% of lacrosse participants came from families with six figure plus incomes - more than any other sport including baseball at 27%. Men's lacrosse would probably garner a lot more student interest at BC than baseball - even though I prefer baseball as a sport.
