Hawkins done for the year

Per Goodman:

This is another setback for BC Basketball. Although Hawkins was only a grad transfer, he was supposed to provide the sort of front line help that might make BC more competitive this season. Tough loss for Hawkins too, as he was supposed to use this season to prove himself against elite ACC competition.

BC still has talent in the backcourt, but I fear teams are going to kill us on the boards all season.

Hawkins and BC could apply for a 6th year. Who knows if he would want one?

  1. You have to have imagine this is the nail in the coffin for Christian. Without Hawkins I see them winning less than 5 ACC games and that will be solely due to the individual efforts of Robinson and Bowman.

Hopefully Jarmond has seen enough through his short tenure to make a change. While I think BC fans think favorably of him so far, it will be very interesting to see how he handles the responsibilities of hiring a new coach as we all know Addazio is now safe.

  2. Sucks - but Chatman, Mitchell and Pop and everybody else needs to step it up a notch, take their shots, rebound and play defense. Can't wait for Bowman and Robinson to shoot. Everybody has to be involved.

  3. i think the headline should be "Christian's Goose Cooked, Well-Done"

    This is sort of good.

Let's get a new hoops coach soon

  4. Tough for the team. Hope they can recover and still compete.

Unless Christian can pull a rabbit out of the hat, this should be the 4th losing season in a row for JC and the 7th in a row overall for BC basketball.

Hope Jarmond can find someone to fix the program that GDF killed by removing Al Skinner for Steve Donahue. Bates then compounded the issue with Christian.

  5. Time for Jarmond to get to work and eventually make decisions for our future, GO BC

    ReplyDelete
  6. Tough break. I hope the team wins some games but Jarmond should start working the Rolodex now.

  7. Can we please get an update on the mens hockey team? BB sucks and an embarrassment to BC athletics.

  8. Georgia Eagle, you're crushing it all day long...

    ReplyDelete
  9. What the hell does that mean? You people insist on focusing on a losing basketball team when, historically, BC is a hockey power. What the hell. Focus.

    ReplyDelete
  10. ATL is a basketball and football fan, not hockey. Here's a link to the hockey team's page on Rivals.com.

    https://bostoncollege.forums.rivals.com/forums/bc-hockey.14/

We used to be good at hoops. Then, Gene fired Al Skinner and the program has swirled the drain since.

  11. So why does this forum continue to waste it's time on a losing basketball team? I don't even watch when they are on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The forum is interested in hoops because BC is no longer a Boston or strictly regional
school. BC has become thanks to Father Monan's efforts a Jesuit University for the nation.
Jarmond should be after Shea Ralph or another of Gino's staff to solve woman's basketball problems.
The men's problems best solved by Jared Dudley , Danya and Co. or Hurley of Rhode Island.
Jared and Danya because of basketball skills and devotion to BC and it is a gamble
for a return to greatness by recruiting.

  13. Edward Griffith, you've got some great ideas.

    However, you're getting dominated, bceagle91.

  14. Danny Hurley at URI - get it done

  15. Let us give thanks for having over 12 hours of peace from yesterday’s inane, juvenile chatter.

  18. If anyone wants hockey coverage, you'd do a lot worse than head over to BCI. Pretty much non-stop hockey coverage year-round. Which is quite an accomplishment.

Did anyone notice that Phil Schiller of Apple donated to make a new science institute? BCEagle74 may finally be getting his wish of a separate science/engineering school! Or at least a reasonable approximation of it.

  19. Hope everyone is having a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeaster, do it for the team! BCDisco needs some engineering up in this!

  21. Asking for hockey coverage on this blog is like getting sports or politics from the weather channel. You’re in the wrong place! BCI covers men’s, women’s and int’l hockey far beyond the point that the average fan cares about. BC hoops will be back at some point- hopefully it’s during my lifetime

  22. BC just can't get the players. Without the athletes they can't compete against Duke and North Carolina and Louisville. They have to figure out what brought Jared, Donya, and Howard to the campus. They really lost out with Patrick and Georgetown jumped the shark. I am presuming that one of the tasks of Jarmond is to figure it out.---Something brought A.J. (grandson of Tom Gatewood of ND fame) to BC instead of Michigan. Just what is that intangible? It is known in coaching that you don't recruit the athlete. You recruit the mother. Maybe, BC needs to use a little charm in convincing moms that BC is the best fit for their son.

  23. Wow. Such hostility simply because I asked for a little fair and balanced sports coverage. Historically, mens hockey is to BC what football is to Alabama. Except for the past two years, the hockey program has been a national power. What the hell is wrong with you people? And where does it say this forum is strictly for football and basketball coverage. Where?

    ReplyDelete
  24. The only difference is that nationally nobody watches college hockey. Go look at the TV ratings for the Frozen Four. Yikes.

  25. Georgia - go to the BC fan forums on USCHO.com. BC is a hockey school first with football a close second. Basketball, men's and women's, has been a mismanaged joke for nearly ten years. The WBB coach can't recruit or coach and should have been sent packing a long time ago - but mercifully should be gone after this season (which looks to be another disaster). Christian will also likely be gone at or before year end depending on how bad it gets in ACC play. Basketball is pretty fixable with a smaller roster and some capable recruiting - much easier than football and hockey. But I think this time we need to hire a coach with a major reputation who can draw kids on his name alone as BC hoops has fallen so low. Otherwise, it will be a much longer road back in a very demanding conference. In that regard - I think Tom Crean, the former Marquette coach, should be carefully considered. Thad Motta too but I'm not sure of his health. Both guys have already made so much money though that neither may have an interest in coaching again.

  26. Georgia-
I don’t think anyone was trying to be hostile, it’s just that ATL by his own admission does not give hockey much coverage. You will find much more robust discussion of BC hockey elsewhere.

Having said that, I would love to see more discussion of hockey here. This has been a weird season so far. BC looked pretty bad in the first few games, but they were playing some very good teams. Lately they’ve done much better, albeit against weaker competition.

BC hockey hasn’t won any postseason trophies since Mike Cavanaugh left to take the head coaching job at UConn a few years ago. It’s clear he was a huge part of the program and they are missing him now. Don’t get me wrong, York is the greatest college hockey coach in history, but he needs good assistants too. Speaking of York, I wonder how much longer until he retires, and will we see Cavanaugh back at BC as head coach when that time comes?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Napoleon Bonaparte, we crush. Do you have a Napoleon complex?

    ReplyDelete
  28. NYCeagle, totally crushing it once again!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Tim, even from my long distance away, this certainly seems to be the one big reason - "BC hockey hasn’t won any postseason trophies since Mike Cavanaugh left to take the head coaching job at UConn a few years ago."

It also seems to me that we are on the "One and Done" train, and that's not working so well for us. We will always need the tough Boston area, Massachusetts, New England, NJ/Northeast players, with all due respect to the Finnish players.

And like football, BC is at its best in Hockey (M and W) when it has a good amount of juniors and seniors on the team.

    My $.02

I love Jerry York, but "One and Done recruiting" from outside our region doesn't seem to be working. Each year is a brand new team.

  30. Thanks, Yeaster. We'll crush it together!!!

  31. Hilliman to leave BC for post grad year at Rutgers?

    Big loss.
worked well with those 2 running backs

  32. I think my prayers were answered for 1) connections to his roots by Aquila et Altantus (Latin for ATL) and 2) consciousness of his impact by Alvum Motus (Latin translation for Knucklehead)

Could it be that Aquila et Altantus gave Alvum Motus a time out? or even better a ban?

Imagine ATL discretely emailing Knuckle and imagine Knuckle's typical response... you can see the BAM hammer coming quickly.

Kudos to Yeaster who continually baited Khead until his lips were bloody and his enthusiasm lost. Blessing to Yeaster for doing what was needed to shine a light on the antics of Khead. (ps but you do need a better schticht than BC sucks or BC grads make 50k etc. Everyone from BC makes a shitload more than that.... BC is about money.... you must not know BC if you think anyone other than a new grad is getting 50k.. 50K is FSU, NCSU, VT money)

  33. Yeaster, sometimes you are actually funny.

  34. Yeaster, I've got a fever and the only prescription is more crushing!

  35. I agree with the 5:40pm comment.

  36. Knuck, you have a softer side. Awwww! It must be Christmas time lol

    ReplyDelete
  37. Brother Georgia Fox. Bless your heart.

But that is not Knuckle. Imposter.

Imagine this : no remarks from Knucklehead for 24 hours.

    Has ATL taken action?

  38. I swear, I am not Father Neenan.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Father Neenan, imagine if you knew anything about sports or life. Then maybe you would amount to something more than a silly windbag. Imagine.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Brother Yeast is correct.

I recall Yeast’s siblings both were accepted to BC and did well at BC. No $50k ceilings for those 2.

However, Yeast was rejected from BC. Just a hair short. Still a bright kid - just too much competition in MA that year.

  43. Now that was Knucklehead aka Avlum Motus

  44. It was me before fruitcake. Using Latin is not impressive. It doesn't change or soften what you are saying. Holier than thou, eh.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Father Neenan, you're crushing it with the Latin. Knucklehead is impressed.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You are confused. I am not impressed.

  47. Father Neenan, Knucklehead is not impressed so you need to crush it.

  48. Knucklehead, I'm on your side. Just tell me how to crush it.

  49. Figure it out yourself.

  50. If you plug "Alvum Motus" into Google Translate, the English is "bowel movement".
