I never thought this day would come

The proposal and idea for a new baseball/softball complex on the Brighton campus is over a decade old. Being the cynic that I am when it comes to local objections to BC expansion and BC's inconsistent support of sports facilities, I thought the complex might never come. Yet the project is nearing completion and looks great (see below). Weather will always be a challenge for both sports, but this is the type of facility that should be a game changer. It's exciting.

  1. What a shame to throw away such money (plus scholly $$) for bad sports when Lax gets nothing.

an error by GDF compounded by hayseed Bates.

No one gives a bleep about baseball or softball .

  2. ^ mod34- I’ve recently moved outside of the bubble of upper-middle class suburban towns in the northeast and have some startling news:

No one gives a bleep about lax either.

  3. Noticed that the base lines, home plate and the infield are covered by a rug too - is that temporary for the winter? All the synthetic fields I've seen still use dirt in the infields.

  4. Wow - great progress. Will the synthetic fields take some getting used to?

On an athletic related note - has the Bubble gone up yet for football practice? I know that there's a snow storm today.

  5. Andrew, sorry to hear of your misfortune. Work hard and your BC education will pay off. Chin up.

  6. John, the bubble is indeed up.

  7. No one cares about baseball, but do care about lacrosse? Did I miss the memo?

    Agree with the 7:25 comment.

Lacrosse has grown here in Atlanta; no doubt about it. Maybe it’s now 3% as important as baseball.

The weather is important, Mod, totally agree. Kids down here play year round on traveling teams. But you don’t give up because it’s hard or it’s cold. And it looks quite clear that BC has committed to it. Good for them.

  8. Lax is the fastest growing team sport in the USA. Look it up. Fastest on West coast too. Maybe not popular in the south , but really who cares about what goes on there. (Ha!) some real odd stuff there. Eg Roy Moore dating habits

Out of hundreds of kids. I know 1 or 2 that chose baseball. Just a dying sport.

Georgetown Harvard. Brown BU Holycross Dartmouth. Syracuse Duke uNC etc. all have excellent lax programs. bC should 2

I am not against baseball. But BC admin made it clear that lax is the sport cut to support baseball on the gender equality front. Not good

  9. Why is BC wearing grey uni’s today?

  10. Baseball is huge on West Coast , South , South West , Sigificant in Mid-West , and with
trips south and west holding its own in East.
Lax is much like soccer year after year taking over but BIG THREE remain Football ,
    Basketball and Baseball.
BC's last trip to NCAA baseball tournament ended a win short of Omaha and College World
    Series.
Time to go after Shea Ralph to replace current LOSER women's Basketball Coach.
Christian just can't recruit. It is time for Jared , Danya and friends or Hurley of
    Rhode Island.
DEC 8 USA today salaries of assistant football coaches shows Loeffler needs 700,000
Reid 625,000 , Brown 400,000. If we want to keep winning.

  11. Maroon and Gold.

I guess the gray replaces the home white? It's okay if it helps us win, but it's strange to see on TV.

  12. Am I seeing these photos correctly?

The dirt is astroturf too?? wtf

  13. It worked!!!!!!!

    Unbelievable.

Our guys have heart, that's for sure. Had to close it out - tough against a team like Duke.

  14. I never thought the day would come when we'd beat Duke either :-)

  15. Holy crap. Lights out shooting.

  16. Huge win. No guarantees for a winning ACC season but this certainly improves the narrative for this year and bodes well for future recruiting.

  17. Good for them. If they played 20 times Duke might win 19 but today was THAT other day. Really a shame Hawkins went down because with him they were a very competitive team capable of playing with anyone on a given day. To win today without Hawkins is remarkable.

  18. Game article from "Duke basketball report" web site. Very complimentary of BC.

  19. Thee army-navy game. REAL student-athletes. GO ARMY!

  20. Tough conditions but Army (Infantry) should prevail over the Navy when the conditions on the ground are what they are today. 🙂

  21. Great game. It’s the one time you can really talk about warriors at a football game and mean it - knowing the World’s most elite warriors are on the field and many more in the stands.

Luv seeing the shots of the army cadets or navy midshipman in the stands cheering !

A real tribute to the USA

  22. Amen, brothers Mod and John.

  23. A funny thing happened on the path to burn Christian at the stake. The torches were lit and then they beat number one Duke.

  24. Yawn...where’s the basketball practice facility?

  25. Are you crushing it when you yawn?
