ESPN says Antoine Smith is getting promoted to 10th assistant

According to ESPN, current Football Director Antoine Smith will get promoted to BC as its new 10th assistant. Smith joined Addazio's staff last year as "Director of Football Initiatives."

I have no idea what "Football Initiatives" means. But all of these new, non-recruiting roles don't really have to be defined (at any school). Usually there is a good deal of film study, since there are also limitations on player interaction. But these types of jobs are different from Graduate Assistants, as they typically get paid better and don't have as much grunt work.

According to ESPN, Smith will work with the DLine. The big advantage of adding him is the new foot on the ground to talk to recruits. Smith has history in the region, having played at Maine and worked at Holy Cross. He was at Texas State prior to BC.

Still no official word from BC, so there could be other developments. I expect BC will also add a few more Football Directors this offseason.

  1. From a quick survey of the ACC coaching staffs (just head coach and assistants, not lower staff), prior to this hire BC was the least diverse football coaching staff in the ACC. After the hire i think we are still the least diverse coaching staff.

Given the stereotypes constantly applied to BC, that is something that Jarmond needs to fix - for many reasons.

This hire is a good step in the right direction for needed diversity reasons at the assistant coaching level, and also a good hire in and of itself. Win win.

  5. If you don't want to pay good assistants then we will die with
one dumb excuse for a head coach who at 2.5 million should be up for highway robbery to
be mediocre at best and maybe a lot worse.
LONG PAST TIME TO MAKE THE ECHOS RING AGAIN.

  6. Let’s get some good news with Hamilton. We could use it.

  7. We got him!

Great get. Congrats to JC and staff.

  8. The race comment is self serving(obvious with the Win Win thrown in after you realized how much of an ass you sounded like).

  9. Good news with hoops has been few and far between. But, just recently, we have learned we have a dedicated practice facility in the works, probably a forthcoming NIT bid, and Hamilton (top 50) and Tabbs (top 150) coming in.

This commit is huge. Chris Cheeks with the wine and dine. Oops. Hope not. Bapst is beautiful, that did it!

  10. Jesus, Hamilton was offered by everyone. Sounds like Christian sold his family on the program. Christian made an in-home visit(like Bowman). Evidently he has not made an official visit to Boston College yet.

    Very interesting.

    Impressive signing.

The style of play on offense is loose and that is probably a big selling point. Too much micro management at the "major" programs. Who would want to spend 4 years getting screamed at by some asshole(Mod would) when you can run and gun for the Eagles.

  11. The other kid from MD looks like a Jermain Watson 6th man type. Legit offer list for him too. Hoops is getting interesting.

  12. . . . he cannot jump though. Which makes him very different from Jermaine. Anyone who knows some of his backstory will like that line.

  13. Khead, the reference to a defenestrated point guard was well played.

  14. @mod34b: I agree with you. @Knucklehead: Just why do you think that Jarmond was brought in in the first place? BC has an image problem. His credentials are suspect. He had little experience. Father Leahy rolled the dice based on his dentist wife. It may turn out to be a good hire.---By the way, Flip's son is now a hot head coach candidate in the NFL where he is now a quarterback coach for the other Eagles where Matt Ryan is going this weekend.

  15. If Watson didn't (have to) jump, maybe we beat Duke for the Championship?

Do I have my timing right?
