I don't know much about Lacrosse nor Women's Lacrosse. But any sports fan could watch Sunday's National Championship and see how well coached BC's team is. They lost the Championship game, but as they have all season, they overcame deficits, adjusted tactics and played their hearts out until the last whistle.
It was a tough loss, but not one that left a permanent sting. I am more convinced than ever that BC's time is coming and when Walker-Weinstein's crew breaks through, they will win multiple National Championships.
Congrats to the team for a great season. You represented BC and each other very well.
Great season for the women maybe champs next year. Happy Memorial Day.

ReplyDeleteSucks to lose 2 national championships in a row, but in the grand scheme of things these are champagne tears. Would love to have these sorts of complaints with football and basketball.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame that BC does not have a men’s lacrosse team .Imagine a BC vs Duke game on a Friday night at Alumni- would probably draw 20 K fans . My grandchildren all play soccer north of Boston and the game is popular and growing in leaps and bounds. We just built a new baseball stadium and how many fans go to a game - very few indeed !!!! In fact 5 games were either postponed or canceled. Sad , indeed. My impression was with the new AD coming on board, an evaluation of our current programs with the idea of trimming the number of sports teams at the Heights. I understand that BC has many more sports programs than any other ACC school. Why ????!

ReplyDeleteGuido has it right. When you have a radical leftie Jesuit pontiff, just what do you think the policy at all 28 Jesuit Colleges and Universities would be? No wrestling, no men's LAX, no "testosterone" sports beyond the large numbers in football which has to be balanced with many women's sports according to Title IX.---It must be remembered that when Brandy Chastain ripped off her sports bra when the women won their World Cup, the champions could not even beat the boys under-17 squad whom they scrimmaged regularly. Women view success in sports a lot more differently than do men.---F. Leahy is surely not going to argue the point. After all, he is a Jesuit.
ReplyDeleteOk - I am guilty of hyperbole with the 20k attendance figure, but give me a break !!! I was trying to make a valid point about the interest in lacrosse vs college baseball in 40 degree weather. Very few fans are in attendance, New stadium or not - to those who post on this blog from the greater Boston area - how many baseball games have you attended this year??? And be truthful !!! I guess that the status quo is ok with the majority of BC fans . Legitimate change takes decades at the Heights- how many decades did it take to build an indoor practice facility for football!!!
ReplyDeleteJBQ it's unfortunate when a few basic facts get in the way of your incoherent ramblings, but Fairfield a Jesuit university just down the road in CT has D1 men's varsity lacrosse. Another Jesuit school you might have heard of Georgetown has a men's varsity lacrosse team.
ReplyDeleteAs far as some of the other 28 Jesuit schools, such as John Caroll in Cleveland, it's DIII so it doesn't matter what sports it fields same with DII Spring Hill. Xavier here in Cincinnati, which you might have heard of since it goes to the NCAA tournament every year in basketball, wouldn't dream of offering lacrosse, a Big East sport, because outside of New England and the mid Atlantic nobody cares about lacrosse.
As far as BC women going to back to back title games with next year being their most talented squad yet, I blame Title IX for all this success.
