Best of luck to Ryan Day

Ohio State suspended Urban Meyer for three games for his actions related to Zach Smith's issues. That means interim Head Coach Ryan Day will get his first experience as a head coach this year. Congrats to him.

Day has a long history with BC -- and this blog. While I am sure Day would have preferred his first shot at something like this under different circumstance, this is still a great opportunity. If he team performs well, Day will be a top candidate for any openings this offseason. The accelerated time table does hurt his chances of ever coming back to BC as a head coach. But if anything the coaching carousel is unpredictable and Day might still end up at BC.

    HELLO RYAN "FOR BOSTON"

  5. Yes, Ryan Day in 2020.

    That means next season Mod.

  6. Ryan Day should be watched very closely. Daz will stub his toe this year and there will be an opening in 2019. Las Vegas usually knows what they are talking about. They predict 5.5 wins over and under. ----If it is 5 or 6 wins with the two gimmes, then they have to pay off two years of the extension foolery of Brad Bates. Still in all, Father Leahy will want to save the 5 million and keep him around. So, let's hire Day or someone like him and keep Daz on staff as the strength coach.

  8. The Vegas line started at 5.5 and has been one of the most bet up lines in the country. It now stands at 6.5 and is still one of the most popular picks for the over. Just an FYI

  9. I like Day, but agree he hasnt really proven anything yet. He was up and down at BC. But he is young and was developed by Chip Kelly, who despite his NFL career, is a proven college winner. As for why he isnt at UCLA, maybe he chose to stay at Ohio State? Wouldnt be completely irrational of a choice. As for Dana Bible, he is only 64? I just assumed he was in his 70's.

  10. Who do you recommend they hire? Don't use Bing. Whining baby.

  11. Nick Saban and Sean McVay are not available. Like you cannot pick a football Jesus figure because that would be unrealistic. I have to say that to you.

  12. Even if 0.0hio State does well in the three-game run under Day, I don't see him getting a Power 5 job this offseason. With no HC experience on his resume and good, but not wunderkind-level results in his coordinator gigs he's more likely to land a Group of 5-type HC job like Fickell where he'll really get a shot to prove himself.

If there is an opening at BC at the end of this year I think Day would be a good candidate but there are probably some better names available. And I hope there isn't an opening because BC won nine or 10 games...

  13. Dead on when mentioned Fickell. Getting an interim spot when you are young and have no head coaching experience, even if at a school like Ohio State, means little when it comes to immediate future job opportunities.

As for BC, I hope we are not looking for a new head coach at the end of the seasons because that will likely mean one thing, we completely bombed ...

  14. I have to say, I havent posted a ton on this blog, but have been around for a while and have been a die-hard BC supporter, then student and then alum for many years now ... the years really do fly by. I have never been a huge Adazio fan. While he has all the energy and that intangible stuff, he has shown time and again that he just doesnt have what it takes in game to win. I said last year itself, the fact that the offense went from literally pathetic to dominant overnight, was more damning than encouraging. What I meant was that the ability was always there, it just was not unleashed. That is 100% on the coaches. It was only when it was truly desperation time that they decided to just go all out and we saw the results. If they revert to conservatism, then they need to go.

Last season was tough due to injuries. I hate that excuse, but if any team could use it, it would be last year's squad. They were decimated. That excuse is gone now ... fingers crossed. They have to perform this year. If they do, coupled with the really good recruiting class that is being put together, then Daz deserves every opportunity to stay for a long time. If they do not, then he needs to go. And by perform, I dont mean another 7-6 type season ...

  15. Mod, they think I wrote that Day would literally be HC in 2020. You know otherwise.

  16. 9 wins or better otherwise TIME FOR A NEW DAY FOR BOSTON.

  17. I am on board with the 9-win expectation for this year. The only caveat to that is an eight-win regular season that includes an upset over a top-10 team such as Clemson or Miami.

ATL, when are you doing your worst-case/best-case/what-will happen season predictions?

  18. Ask Mod for his best case scenario.

  19. See the worst case frequently.

  20. Looks like the starting DLine (no surprise to most) is Allen, Smith, Karafa, Ray.

Tanner is interesting in that he started out as an TE , I think. I'll have to look it up. Then he was a backup DE. That he is now a starting interior Defensive Lineman in the ACC shows what a great team player he is.

Good luck in 2018 all DLs.

  21. What!? The NFL Practice Squad Guru is now QB Coach at UCLA!? Good for him, getting into the CALPERS system.

Look, at BC 6 or MAYBE 7 wins is about the best you can do. So if Daz wins only 5, you have to extend him a year. At 6, you need to hand him a new 5-year deal. I’d hate to see dreams of Ryan Day cause you to lose Daz to the FoxSports Ohio AAC noontime GOTW package.
