These look cool, are not over the top and relate to BC's past. What's not to like? I want a classic and consistent look for all our sports, but appreciate that the occasional special uniform gets players and fans excited.
It would be nice if BC could figure out a way to sell these uniforms in the bookstore/online. It is 2018 and the bookstore webpage is made for a dial up modem. I guess ACC money is in short supply.

Not that I don't own enough BC stuff already, and am embarrassed by the state of most of our teams, but I would own so much more if they did half of a decent job. Jarmond parades around wearing all sorts off cool, mostly throwback, stuff, and it isn't available anywhere.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a student, 15 years ago, I had a cartoon and I wanted to create limited edition "game day" shirts that were a cartoon of the Baldwin and the opposing team's mascot fighting it out with a cheesy saying, like "Vanderbilt it, BC Sank it" kind of thing. They do them at all of the SEC schools. The bookstore shot me down because it's managed by a 3rd party and BC had little say. Athletics said I could do it on my own dime, but they wouldn't support it, and I'd have to license the likenesses. What a PITA.

ReplyDeleteSchrute/Coen's resume probably said "Assistant Coach, Receivers" rather than "Assistant Receivers Coach". Can't blame Coach Addazio for failing to read all these newfangled titles carefully.

ReplyDeleteSmart move on Coen's part. He'll only be here a year anyway. If the offense does well, he takes the credit. If it goes poorly, he tells one and all that Addazio handcuffed him. Either way, he has NFL street cred as an assistant) assistant coach, and a Power5 resume line. Not a bad rise up from OC at HC.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I like the UMass move for Walt Hill, their new HC. As FSU OC he spends a year harvesting the fumes of the Jimbo Fisher offense, then he gets out before the Taggart stench drifts over to him. He's a hero if he wins at UMass, and can parlay that into a move to say Kansas when Les Miles falls apart.
If he loses, well, so what? It's UMass. He can go back to being an OC or move to an assistant (just assistant, not assistant-assistant) job in the NFL.

ReplyDeleteI have voiced my frustration to Associate AD Jamie Di Loretto and even went so far as to send him my BC gear and some gear from other schools. (for example, the OU maroon hat, as an iconic and comfortable example of what should be done). He responded, but not constructively. I think our merchandise is awful. All I want are some cool hats maybe even the same ones as the baseball team wears, maybe a hockey polo, the ability to purchase some cool golf apparel, how about cool workout shirts with some slogans or references to our storied past, maybe some co-op with other manufacturers that don't compete with UA. Look at North Dakota in hockey, seeing their cool gear at the frozen fours is what opened my eyes. We need to redo aspect of our Athletic Department as it is substandard and doesn't reflect our fine University.
