I don't see Lempa as a critical loss. He's always been well liked by players and his familiarity and ties to BC were always nice, but he's not some ace recruiter or great strategist. He also seems to consistently have weird relations with his BC bosses. TOB did not offer him a job at NC State and Spaz and Gene both wanted him out when Jags took over. His relationship with Don Brown is what brought him back to the Heights. It doesn't surprise me that with Brown gone, he's not staying with Addazio.
The only thing that Lempa might impact is the timing of the other Defensive replacements. Addazio might speed up the process a bit so that he's not short-staffed when the quiet period ends.

It's still pretty sad when you lose a staff member to freaking Hawaii.
That's a tremendously stupid thing to say. He's going from an afterthought position coach to a DC of an FBS program, an upgrade anyway you cut it.
And Lempa will be moving to Hawaii.
Hmmm. Hawaii. Vs Boston??? Now which would I pick??
Definitely Boston. You'd lose your mind living in Hawaii - all that sun, bikini clad women, perpetual sunshine, blooming flowers, warm temperatures - you'd not have a single brain cell left - you'd lose interest in sports, current events, politics, culture etc. All you'd be doing is running around in a bathing suit all day high on mai tais shagging babes on the beach. Much better to be in Boston and using your brain to escape the depression brought on by endless pea soup clouds and drizzle.
Nappy
Think, u have to coach young guys in that environment, probably pretty hard to get them to pay attention, u also forgot the weed. Happy New Year!
The weed and they don't like white guys from out of town their either. Military or otherwise.
Are there any candidates left with credibility to take the Boston College DC job. I am thinking someone from one the bowl games this week will be taking the job. Otherwise we are behind the 8 ball, as usual.
I think losing Lempa is a critical loss and an indication of a bigger problem. He has an impressive resume and for the most part he has been part of winning teams. The head coach is only as good as his assistants and when you lose a coach who has a 30 year resume, and the majority of them on winning teams it is a "critical loss". However let's say he is not a impactful coach or a great X and O guy, based on his resume he knows who to hitch his wagon to in order to stay with winning programs.
