Louisville gametime, Addazio says nothing, and Hoops hype

BC is playing another early game. The ACC announced the kickoff for the matchup with Louisville will be 12:30. The game will be on your regional sports network and NESN in the Boston area.

Addazio said nothing Sunday or Monday about the various injuries of BC's star players.

I know we are in football season, but here is a basketball highlight tweet that BC put out. I'm a sucker for this stuff and it makes our very good players look great.

  1. SO WHAT ?????????????

UNTIL WE RECRUIT ALL 3 star and a sprinkling of 4 stars we need a great coach
and Christain ceiling is at best a decent-good coach.

  2. My question on basketball recruiting has to do with Gonzaga. They recruit international players. Their big star from this year will be from Japan. Can't BC get it? It appears that recruiting is stuck in neutral and "ghetto enhanced".

    ReplyDelete
  3. Agreed. Seems like Christian is intent on making BC bb a mirror image of Louisville and Kentucky.

  4. Mod loved that quote JBQ.

  5. To current/former/future BC players, their families, and any BC staff who read this blog, I want to apologize on behalf of the small, but loud, group of racist, old, angry men who post on this blog daily. They are an embarrassment to BC as an institution and community, and I assure you that most people within the BC community are decent, respectful people.

ATL, I've been an avid reader for the last decade, but the comments on this blog almost on a daily basis devolve into something offensive or political that have nothing to do with the main reason we all come here daily. Thanks for the commitment and devotion to BC. But I'll be going elsewhere.

  6. Agreed with EagleEye2002. I lean right politically so I'm sure many on here would agree with my views, but the blatant racism expressed by a few members on here is inexcusable. From comments about Jarmond being a "diversity hire" to JBQ's "ghetto" comment above, it is embarrassing to call these people fellow alumni. I hope Jarmond and current/prospective athletes don't visit this blog because it is a poor reputation of the BC community.

  7. How predictable. So these two PC posters are perfectly fine with the program being filled with one and done mercenaries. I have consistently advocated recruiting legitimate student-athletes, regardless of race, Creed or color. If you people want this school to have sec standards in recruiting, fine, just fine.

  9. You go, Mod. I'm so tired of legitimate criticism and concerns of our schools athletic program being silenced by liberals playing the race card.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Mod, if you knew me you'd know how anti-PC I am. I am the first to criticize people for crying out racism/sexism for everything that they don't agree with. I voted for and am supportive of Trump's administration. Doesn't mean I can't condemn actual racist comments like JBQ's when I see it.

What one and done players do we have Georgia Eagle? Think of our best BC athletes: Robinson stayed 3 years, Bowman is staying at least for a third year, Dillon will stay for at least 1 more year. How are these "one and done" mercenaries? By your logic, shouldn't you be criticizing the hockey team which actually has a real issue with one and done players?

If you can't see how much of an improvement over the last 2 AD's that Jarmond is, I don't know what to tell you. He is extremely vocal in the BC community and he brings an energy that we have sorely been lacking for years. His recently announced Athletics initiative has BC football and basketball being consistently ranked in the top 25 clearly stated in its goals. You can argue Jarmond hasn't tangibly changed anything yet, but there is no denying he has brought an expectation of athletic excellence.

  13. Do you really believe BC is a destination athletics program that AD's across the country salivate over? It's this type of backwards think that led to DeF firing Jags for having the "audacity" to interview for a job in the highest league in football. BC is a middle of the road athletics program that seems to be ticking up recently. We need years of consistent success to make BC a destination spot for AD's and coaches alike. Until then, I am completely fine with "Mouse" and others using BC as a stepping stone. If they are successful, that means BC succeeded too. Over time, we will no longer be seen as a stepping stone and attract people who truly bleed "maroon and gold."

By your comments, I assume you're from an older generation and may not be privy to Twitter but Jarmond is very vocal on there. He constantly makes videos engaging with the BC community and applauding BC Athletes on their success. Anecdotally, Jarmond is also very public at BC tailgates and goes out of his way to speak with BC fans. For comparison, look at Brad Bate's twitter account. He may have sent 2 tweets about BC during his tenure here. JBQ has that lovely story he loves to repeat about Brad Bates away at the dentist's office. I am very pleased with Jarmond thus far and I wish him the best of luck during his time here.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If dazoshit goes 6-6 again and Christian another losing ACC record and Jarmond does nothing, will you still be pleased with his performance? Being "vocal" on twitter and tailgate parties is absolutely meaningless.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Of course not. I'll be right there with you criticizing him for not demanding better. But I'm not going to discredit him from the start just because of his skin color.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Here we go again, when a liberal is boxed in a corner with empiracel evidence that the man simply was not the best candidate for the job, he/ she will always play the race or gender card. Pitiful.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. BCEagles2014 emphatically stated that he was not a liberal. He will also defend his position and therefore is not boxed in or pitiful.

What else have you got besides that, Georgia Eagle?

      Delete
  17. Can't believe there's any question about Dillon playing Saturday. Sad! The labor needs to step up and perform, especially with Coach Addazio facing a daunting road to get those last two wins.

Dillon needs to understand that carries in the NFL don't do Coach Addazio any good. He needed Coach Addazio to start him and feed him the ball. Dillon needs Coach Addazio to keep him on the national stage through his junior year.

Dillon was on a pace to carry the rock over fifty times on Saturday. That keeps the ball in the hands of BC's most heralded player. If you need to keep him out of practice during the week, do it. If you need to get him a custom brace for the ankle, do it. If you need to shoot him up for each game, do it.

The priority is giving Coach Addazio what he needs to reach the Military Bowl. The rest will sort itself out.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Two more wins? The military bowl? This sarcastic satire? Correct?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Boston College has never had a "one and done". There is far too much emphasis placed on earning a legitimate degree, even for the underprivileged recruits. I know a number of elite recruits who have laughed at Boston College coaches when they show up and start talking about "the academic offerings".

    ReplyDelete
  20. Georgia Eagle, it’s laughable you think I’m a liberal. I am very conservative, which is rare given I am a millennial. People like you give conservatives a bad name by making illogical arguments and calling those you disagree with “PC libs” instead of debating on actual substance and facts. As our great President would say, “sad!”

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have always agreed with Coach Addazio that six or seven wins is the best that you're going to do at Boston College. Why is this such a mystery?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Reference one and done. BC has yet to have a BB player talented enough to be drafted after his freshman year.

    ReplyDelete
  23. BCeagle, if you are such a conservative you should believe in the merit system, not the quota system. Simply put, all hires and promotions should be based on the best qualified. Case in point: If Tony Dungee ( a black man) was offered the head coaching job, I would be the first person at Alumni Stadium to welcome him.
Unfortunately, it was quite clear our very liberal president made a diversity hire in Jarmond and not a talent hire.

  25. Thanks, John. It's amazing I'm getting attacked by these 2 for simply disagreeing with them. Being conservative and calling out blatant racism are not mutually exclusive concepts. Not sure how anyone can read JBQ's comment above and feel good about how that reflects on the BC community.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Nonsense on the diversity hire. He was the #2 guy at a powerhouse athletic institution (his boss is also very well-regarded and recommended him for the job). The guy was named one of the top 40 guys under age 40 in his profession by SportsBusiness Daily. He's well-thought of by his peers-- I happen to know one of his peers (former #2 guy at a Pac-12 school, and white, btw) who told me BC hired a future star and he would be "very surprised" if he didn't succeed. His resume was obviously the kind of resume that wqould get him looks and offers at lots of Power 5 schools, regardless of his race. Please stop embarrassing yourself and our school by saying otherwise.

  28. Agree 100%, 2014, right down to the part about being conservative and calling out racism.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mod, why do we even bother? It's like talking to people with goo for brains. According to todays pc dogma, any criticism of a black man by a white man automatically brings the charge of racism. This is what happens when gullible college kids are exposed to four-years of left-wing college professors and consider CNN and MSNBC objective news sources. It's hopeless.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @mod & GE, for what it's worth I thought that comment by Father Leahy was extremely stupid and showed a sharp contrast to the better answer ND gave on the issue. I wouldn't dare watch MSNBC or CNN so again I don't understand how you can think I'm liberal. I'm not saying any criticism of a black person is "racist", but calling BC basketball "ghetto" because we are recruiting more black athletes surely is.

If you cannot understand this simple nuance, then perhaps it's true that the admission standards were much lower at your age than they are today.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Eagle2014, you aren't so much liberal as you under the spell of political correctness which suppresses conservative free speech by playing the race card at the slightest provocation.
Concerning education levels, I'll be happy to compare resumes, Junior. You will be embarrassed.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mod should read what he posted. It does NOT say that our AD was hired because of diversity. It says that BC hired Jarmond who is black. It also said "Leahy would support an NCAA mandate for athletic departments to interview at least one minority for any head coaching or senior leadership position, similar to the NFL’s “Rooney Rule,” Dunn said.

Nothing in your reference says that Jamond was hired because he is black.

Funny how so many here emulate our dear leader with the denigrating name calling. Particularly those that seem to have PC on the brain. Being fair and considerate of others is not "PC". It is behaving as Jesus instructed us.

And do you really think that here are no racists?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Comrade Joseph is back. When does the Poliburo vote on exiling conservatives to the gulags?

    ReplyDelete
  37. joseph

in your para 1 you say:

It says that BC hired Jarmond who is black.

    in para 2 you say

Nothing in your reference says that Jamond was hired because he is black

    what Joe??? silly argument

very obvious diversity plus qualifications/experience were both key factors in his hire - neither alone was sufficient. A good hire, but not going as well as i would have hoped.

E2014.. re-read what i said, and you will see i agree with you. but the last comment is bogus (like your 'are you aware of twitter" comment)

"If you cannot understand this simple nuance, then perhaps it's true that the admission standards were much lower at your age than they are today. "

why do these kids think they are smarter when they have yet to accomplish anything other than graduating college, maybe get into grad school, maybe getting an entry level job?? and they have no idea who they are talking to.... E2014, you seem like a nice guy, but i'd lose that nonsense line and similar lines... you'll say it in person one day to the wrong alum and will be instantly flame roasted.

    ReplyDelete
  38. You and GE were attacking my character, so I only deemed it necessary to fight fire with fire. Indeed it is out of character for me to make a comment like that, but can you see why I may have been provoked to say such a thing?

You suggest I don't know who I'm talking to and fair enough that is, but have you considered that about yourself? You claim I'm liberal and PC, when in fact I am very conservative and as anti-PC as it gets. I'd show you my voting record if I could, but I assure you it lacks any hint of blue. I would be right there with you in calling out people crying racism for giving a simple critique that you would give to anyone regardless of race. But the "ghetto" comment is in extremely poor taste and is uncalled for - not sure why that's so difficult to realize. Additionally, as Downtown Resident mentioned before, I also don't believe Jarmond was a diversity hire. I could care less about his race. He was the #2 man at Ohio State and brings a ton of experience and a culture of winning that BC sorely needs. Huge improvement over Brad Bates who came from Miami of Ohio. But suddenly a lifetime conservative is now a PC liberal because I think this way. Ok then!

    ReplyDelete
  39. why is everyone so afraid to say that diversity was a factor - a positive factor - in hiring Jarmond?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Context is key Mod. The way in which you have described jarmond as “the diversity hire” comes across as an insult, not a compliment.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Kid, I believe you. Just need to take you under my wing.lol our only real dispute comes down to the diversity hire issue. I believe he was. you believe he was a merit hire. Mod has pointed out in previous posts that Jarmond had relatively little power at Ohio State. My point being that there were several people with actual AD experience out there with more experience. And wouldn't Doug Flutie have been a dynamic hire? He's been in football all his life and has God-like status.
I do know this. If Jarmond does nothing if Dazoshit and Christian continue to fail, he is a failure as an AD.

    ReplyDelete
  42. If you are ever in the Area take area I'll be happy to buy you a beer

    ReplyDelete
  43. "why is everyone so afraid to say that diversity was a factor - a positive factor - in hiring Jarmond?"

And why are you so eager to say (without a shred of proof) that it was. Jarmond is black. Jarmond was hired. Adazio is white. Adazio was hired. Any connection?

Both red and blue are in the American flag. Without both there would be no flag as we know it.

Why must derogatory name calling be the hallmark of some? why "dazoshit"? Why "mouse"? Why the "comrade"stupidity?

I have no reason yet to be doubting Jarmond. As they say , the jury is still out. I agree with what seems to be the general sentiment about Adazio. If this year is as bad as we fear, he should go. If men' and women's basketball don't show significant improvement we need new leaders. The one and done BS in hockey has got to be corrected. If these continue to be concerns after the end of these next seasons then I will definitely join he chorus about the need for an AD that will take us to the heights. But, I refuse to join those that use therms like I mentioned above. We all should have a better way of referring to people. This has nothing to do with mythical "PC" It has only to do with thinking like educated adults and common courtesy. Nuns in grammar school taught us that and Jesuits in college taught us ethics. Neither taught us to demean those with whom we disagreed.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Mythical, Joey? Get your head out of your &&&&&&

    ReplyDelete
  45. Nobody here knows the derivation of the word ghetto. Modern(post WWII) usage referred to Jewish neighborhoods in Poland. Tools. It would be racist if he called it a black ghetto or a white ghetto(those exist in America to but you have no idea of how the world works or you wouldn't cry about someone writing ghetto).

The poster who says he is a Trump supporter but doesn't like the word ghetto is confused. He must be fiscally conservative but socially liberal. Of something convoluted up so he can feel better about himself.

The holier than thou female poster crying about angry men was second best. Too bad. You lost to the man who likes Trump.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Bravo, Mr. Knuck. Bravo!

  47. BCEagles2014,

You don't understand standards and morals. Or you are fucking ignorant of what you vehemently speak. Jag-offadinski was fired because he interviewed with the Jets and didn't tell Gene. They had an agreement that Jags, as the bozos call him, would notify Gene if he interviewed for another job. That is why he was fired. Principle.

How many more history lessons do I need to give you morons?

No wonder my rankings are dropped to 38.

    ReplyDelete
  51. KH I do know the derivation of the word ghetto. And I do know what it means in modern day America. I have been to the extermination camps. I do know racist stupidity when I see/hear it. I have never, ever heard a reference to a white "ghetto".

    ReplyDelete
  52. Knucklehead, why are you so obsessed with rankings? BC is a damn good school, we don’t need any rankings to validate that. I’m especially curious why you care so much as you have previously stated on a blog here long ago that you did not attend BC.

  56. Martin Jarmond was hired ....

    Black Martin Jarmond was hired....

Martin Jarmond, who is black was hired for diversity.

    Etc.

Until people refer to an African American without mentioning his/her color, we haven't gotten there yet, have we?

Martin Jarmond was hired, although there may have been candidates with better resumes. But Mr. Jarmond had more energy, enthusiasm and plans to improve all things Athletic at BC.

    Hence, he was hired.

    ReplyDelete
  79. John, you crushed it out of the park!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Well said working rich. On the bright side at least my “PCness” seems to have united the bitter rivals Knucklehead and mod34b. What’s even funnier is that they truly think I’m a PC liberal. I am surrounded by PC liberals in NYC and have been very outspoken about the dangers of being PC all the time and crying racism/sexism all the time.

Also FYI Knucklehead, I am a devout catholic and am socially conservative as well so I am not concocting any views to “make me feel better about myself.” I am very firm in my views but I do apologize if that ruins your narrative.

    ReplyDelete
  81. BCEagles2014, keep crushin!

    ReplyDelete
  86. As usual clown, Heights.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Knuck, you won! Champion!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Knucklehead, I will repeat again: context is key. Look at the context in which JBQ made that comment and please try to tell me how it cannot be construed as racist. The fact that someone like myself who is very anti-PC interpreted it that way gives credence to the fact that JBQ had less than good intentions with that comment.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Keep repeating. Don't care. Like I said, ghetto isn't racist. Using white, black or Asian in front of ghetto would make it racist. you need to study grammar and logic.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I am in law school so I am actually studying logic, but thank you for the suggestion. I am done with this nonsense.

A BC win this weekend would go a long way in getting our season back on track and perhaps getting us back in the top 25. Go Eagles!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Great. The world needs another lawyer.

Need to win the next 3 to get back to the top 25.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Knuck, we have too many lawyers now. The degree is watered-down due to the vast number of law schools in the US.

In order to crush it, one would benefit from attending a top 25 law school (if not top 15).

    ReplyDelete
  93. so maybe he was talking about the war from 75 years ago and really meant that we should recruit from the Warsaw ghetto. On the other hand it is possible that he really meant the term as it is used currently. Ya think? I tend to believe the latter. Can you find anything recently that uses the word ghetto to mean anything else than inner city areas? You aren't called Knucklehead for nothing.
