In-game comments post: Army

Hopefully this game will not be interesting. Since it is on TV, I will not be online during the game. Leave your comments and thoughts below.

College Gameday had a nice piece on Matt Ryan, and a telling graphic about the Boston Globe's bias toward professional sports in it's coverage.

Regardless, love the pub.

Hope we win definitively and with class this afternoon. You can almost smell 7-0 going into the showdown in Blacksburg.

Go Eagles!

let's all stay excited, but remember we are only 3-0. Let's not look past ANYONE, but especially not ND... Think about those times when they were regarded as the better team, and look what happened. Let's not be caught off guard and let them ruin one of our seasons, like we have recently done to them.

I like our chances this week and especially next week, but we must be cautious after that.

With that in mind, go eagles.

John, any chance you can elaborate on that graphic? I had to head to the office before heading to the MassCap and left as the commercial lead in gave the Matt Ryan teaser.

It's a shame college football is not very popular in Boston. There's this region from New York on up where they are just not in synch with the rest of the country. I think that hurts us with recruiting, but maybe Jags can get the Chowderheads more excited.

I'm just glad we joined the ACC as that has to help with recruiting and it enables me to sit here in Iowa and see almost every BC game on TV.

Aponavicius blows. That looked worse than a high school kick. It's Billy Bennett time!

BCNorCal07 said...

Why would Aponavicius even be kicking a 44-yarder? He's never had the leg for that. Look, I love the guy, but he barely the 37-yarder to beat Navy in the bowl game. For once, I'm going to have agree with Bravesbill. Isn't this the reason we have Billy Bennet?

What is with the butterfingers today - offense and defense? The humidity or something? Jeesh!!!

eagleboston said...

Well, we're in for a battle today. Those that thought we would see Crane early will be disappointed. Not getting that INT hurt us on the Army TD drive. I think we're playing well, but we have so many injuries on defense that we have a lot of young guys in the lineup today.

Hopefully, Matt and the offense can answer.

Matt Ryan does not look very good today. He's underthrown and overthrown a lot of receivers. Granted, receivers have also dropped numerous passes like Callender.

Bravesbill said...

Wow, what miserable TOB playcalling there. What an awful performance by both players and coaches.

Ampleforth said...

bravesbill can you please go run around in freeway traffic

Bravesbill said...

Been there, done that. Safe and sound. And you would consider BC's first half performance remarkable? Fantastic? Fabulous? What good stuff have you been smoking? Kudos to Army though. Beat Navy!

Ampleforth said...

I know your act is being negative that is who you are. But it gets rather old. If BC won the national championship you would complain it was by not enough points, or Ryan could of had more yds throwing. You are the same during bball season and I bet you are the same with the hockey team. If you have a girlfriend bless her soul as dealing with you everyday would just be horrid. I don't mind negative posts, but I don't ever think I have seen a positive or insightful post from you. I am sure 99% of the people on this blog feel the same way.

I just tell it like it is. If BC has a good performance (like against Ga Tech), then I'll commend them. If they play terrible like they are now, I'll criticize them. I don't think there's any way you can classify BC's performance today as anything but flat and awful. If you don't believe me, then visit my blog. I criticize BC because there is always room for improvement. It's "Ever to Excel" not "Ever to be Mediocre."

eagleboston said...

Granted, Bravesbill may be too harsh for some, but Jags agrees with him. The BC radio team relayed that Jags completely laid into the team at half. I love Matty Ice, but this is not a good game for him. You can have 1 poor game and win the H-man, but you cannot have 2 poor games.

I was very pissed at all of the 7-0 talk all week. Any of these teams except UMASS can beat us on a bad day. Our defense has been hit hard by injuries and we are going on guts and glory. We will be very fortunate to be 7-0.

We're going to win this game today. However, the national story is going to be how poorly we played and how close Army came to beating us.

By the way, I have turned down the TV announcers and I am listening to the radio feed. I am tired of the moronic play-by-play guy going, "nice play by Herlich." "How about that Dunbear?" He even called a tackle by Silva a "great play by Anderson." ESPN needs to fire this guy.

Elsewhere in the ACC:

GTech down by 5 to UVA with 4:49 left in the 4th

WTF?? Duke 43 Navy 32 in the 3rd

eagleboston said...

Good drive. I'll trade 7 for 3 all day. Love Logan's adjustment to go with the underneath game and nice to see the receivers catch the ball. Don't look now, but 1 more TD and we are up 30-10.

I just checked the stats and Ryan is 26-38 for 273 yards. Not exactly a bad game, so I have to apologize for calling this a poor outing.

eagleboston said...

Oh my God! What a hit by Francois! These linebackers have been vicious today.

Ryan has now thrown to 10 different receivers!

eagleboston said...

Notre Dame scores its first touchdown of the year!

BCDisco said...

What the hell is it with BC and service academies?

eagleboston said...

Let's put this game in context. BC opened with 3 critical non-conference games. The one "easy" game was an emotional game against their former coach. The BC defense lost Toal, Raji and Larkin early. Then, they had to listen to 7-0 talk all week. I think this team is mentally exhausted and I give them credit for going up by 3 scores.

And, I think this is good for the coaching staff. They know this team has a lot to work on and they can have some decent things to work on going against UMASS next week.

Bravesbill said...

I'll agree with the good coaching staff. Kind of sad to see Ryan's Heisman hopes being flushed away against Army of all teams.

eagleboston said...

Army has just scored the most points of the season so far. I think Ryan needs to answer with some more points.

Ampleforth said...

according to espn.com, this is what happened on the last play, lol

Brian Toal pass intercepted by Brian Chmura at the BC 11, returned for a loss of 89 yards.

Unknown said...

Yep. They also had LV with a loss of 54 on one play in the 2nd Quarter.

BCNorCal07 said...

i can't watch the game unfortunately (too much schoolwork and no ESPN Classic). is that Brian Toal sighting for real? ESPN.com had one earlier, but it was a screw-up.

BCNorCal07 said...

just to be clear, i really doubt any toal sighting, but just the fact that it's there on the GameCast and not moving has me concerned. just being cautious is all.

eagleboston said...

I'm declaring victory! Sloppy first half, very impressive 2nd half. This may be a theme this season. BC's strength and conditioning prgram is vastly improved over last season. Teams will hang with them for over half of the game, but BC will wear teams down late.

Unknown said...

bcnorcal,

I just checked CBS Sportsline. That was a Ryan interception at the BC11 run in for a TD.

Toal in for a HB pass and loss of a redshirt? TOB's gone already chief.

BCNorCal07 said...

thanks for the update Rafael.

and bravesbill, i highly doubt that Ryan's heisman hopes have taken that much of a hit. sure the interception will look bad (as will the total score if we don't break 40), but by the end of the season, the voters will barely remember the game. only the stats will matter. the stats are still good. currently at 70% completion pct., 3 TDs and over 350 yards. sure he's had to play longer than optimal, but still good numbers, especially on a day his receivers made some key errors (like fumbling inside the 10).

Unknown said...

With 2:20 left to go, interesting stat

1st downs: Army 7, BC 33

Yeah, Ryan's stats were much better than his performance, which should help him with everyone who didn't actually watch the game. He made some bad decisions and inaccurate passes. The fact that he threw two INTs and 1 for a TD against a vastly inferior opponent will stick in the minds of the national media. He might not have killed his Heisman hopes, but they took a hit today. By the way, classy move by BC paying their respect to the Army section at the end of the game.

John said...

Student section was chanting "lets go Army " at the end of the game when they were coming off the field, and not in a mocking way. Also, seems like the townies are starting to get interested in BC. More non-student/non-alum at the game than usual today. Hopefully that picks up.
