In-game comments post: NC State

Last week there seemed to be decent interest in the in-game post, so I'll do it again. Since this game is on TV, I won't be online. For those who are, this post is open to leave your thoughts, vent or celebrate. To comment, you have to register with blogger/google. It is free and easy.

As for new news -- Raji is done for this year and will redshirt. Obviously this is a loss, but not an insurmountable one. We have good depth along the Dline. It is also a chance for Raji to focus on school and his weight. I'll leave the speculation on Raji going pro for another time.

Ouch. The loss of Raji certainly hurts our defensive line, but, as you said, there are extremely capable replacements willing to step in. Hopefully, they will step up today, because if we have no ability to collapse the pocket, NC State will pick us apart, just like Wake at times last week.

What a series.

Bennett kick. 3 & out.

Coach Bible, meet Coach Spaziani.

126 degrees on the field at game time?

Oh.My.God.

That has to be a little off, right?

Bravesbill said...

This drop the linebackers zone defense is feeble. For the love of God, make a change!

I defended O'Brien this week and got attacked. Dana Bible and his "predictable" offense is making mince meat out of Spaziani. "The Hen" is not the winningest coach in BC history for nothing. Beck looks like the Heisman QB, not Ryan.

Now another Ryan INT. This is getting ugly fast. Beck is picking apart the soft corner coverage.

The good news: BC's rush defense looks good. But, I'm very concerned about this offense. UCF put up a ton of points in the first half and that was with his two starting defensive tackles playing (both are out today).

This game is going to come down to whoever is in better condition. Shuttle those D-linemen every down.

Bravesbill said...

What is up with all the rushing? This is ridiculous. Another third and long. Are we sure TOB is on the NCST sidelines?

I think Jags is just trying to establish a running game. Obviously, our ground game last week was pretty bad, and he may be reacting to some criticism that the pass happy Offense we saw last week may not always work. He may be trying a little too hard, but I think that if we can work on it a bit, our backs can have a pretty good game. My only concern is the zone blocking; it seems like they are trying too hard to create a "flow" to one side and are missing some blocks due to that.

Defense is waking up. The rush defense is forcing the Wolfpack to the air and that can force TO's.

Offense gameplan seems to be to run the football and wear out NC State. Complete opposite of last week.

chUck said...

no run game between the tackles...we have to get something going there

Bravesbill said...

Yet more running up the middle. How about a play action? Would work better than having the FB run it up the middle. This is looking very TOB-esque.

eagleboston said...

I think Logan needs to go to the air now. NC State is crowding the box. Does he dare go no huddle?

Wake loses a close one to Nebraska.

Bravesbill said...

Drop the linebackers back into zone coverage. Let the receivers find open seams and cannot generate a pass rush at all. The "much heralded" Dana Bible is absolutely crushing Spaz.

eagleboston said...

No huddle. I must have ESP

Bravesbill said...

Whitworth looks like he should be the permanent starting running back. He looks impressive.

Bravesbill said...

That damn zone coverage is idiotic. Just give them 10 yards every play. Spaz is a damned idiot.

eagleboston said...

Spaz does not have the athletes to go tight coverage. He has to go zone. The problem is no pressure on the QB and no points by the offense.

Another INT for the defense!!!!!!

Bravesbill said...

When you go zone coverage, you drop the linebackers. Hence there is a 3 or 4 man rush that generates 0 pressure.

It's adjustment time! This is where we find out who has the better coaching staff.

Very concerned about our offense. All points have been off of Turnovers. We have not put together one sustained drive for a score. Only 10 points by the offense. They must get better production in the 2nd half.

Ryan looks tight. The emotion of his old coach returning must be on his mind. Or, Heisman pressure must be getting to him. I don't think he has a shot at the H-man so he just needs to relax and get in a groove.

Two big stats of the half: 4 turnovers by the BC defense...7 for the year! And -6 yards rushing by NC State. Look for Bible to abandon the run and go to a shorter passing game underneath the zone. BC cannot stop that, especially with no pressure.

With Wake last week & this half so far, the defense'll give me a coronary by October.

Great stopping the run.

But it's the ten yds-1st down-ten yds-1st down-10yds-interception bit that'll kill me.

eagleboston said...

More stats: Whitworth averaging 6.2 yards per carry. Matty Ice 9-19 for 80 yards. Ouch! Beck on pace for 400 yards passing!! 5 dropped passes.

Nebraska gives up 234 yards rushing to Wake. Is our rush defense that good?

Bravesbill: Do you want BC to abandon the zone, go man-to-man and blitz?

Bravesbill said...

Abandon the zone. Blitz a few linebackers to give Beck less time to pass. Bump receivers at the line to throw the timing of the route off. Drop the other linebackers 5 yards instead of 15. Maybe have 4 linemen and 3 linebackers. Blitz the outside linebackers. Give Beck even less time to pass. Do something, anything. Spaz is not even trying to adjust.

eagleboston said...

As good as this offense was last week, we are horrible this week. Looks like we'll be lucky to crawl out of here with a win and you can chalk up Ga Tech on the road for a loss. I predicted 8-4 and I think that is right on target.

Credit the much maligned "The Hen." He loses his starting RB and 2 defensive tackles and he is in this game. Guys, that was a pretty damn good coach we lost.

Bravesbill said...

Too bad TOB didn't coach this way during his entire tenure. When was the last time TOB threw so many deep balls? How about never. Plus Spaz is making TOB/Bible look like Lane Kiffin/Steve Sarkisian. I was quite disappointed to see Spaz stay.

eagleboston said...

Another dropped pass. Ergggg!

Burning two timeouts early in the 3rd. Is this coaching staff getting the play in too late? C'mon, get with it! We may need those late in the game.

Ayers is the player of the game for BC so far. Larkin out...maybe for several games. We'll see if Bible runs to Larkin's side. Nail biting time!

Bravesbill said...

Uh, why is Apon even kicking still? Shades of Ryan Oligher on that one. Billy Bennett needs to do all of the kicking. If he continues to just do kickoffs, he will ruin one year of eligibility. If he was only going to do kickoffs, well he should have redshirted and have Ayers do kickoffs.

eagleboston said...

5 turnovers! This is a gift game. We play like this against Georgia Tech and we are going to get blown out.

The ghost of Ohliger returns. Sid misses the PAT. Oh. That could come back to haunt us.

chUck said...

Wow. Put any pressure on Beck, and he completely implodes. He is just giving the ball away at this point.

Bravesbill said...

That's about 5 dropped passes by Robinson.

eagleboston said...

This offense has major, major problems. Ryan is a good QB, but this is going to take him way down on the draft board. Granted, his receivers are dropping more balls than a drunk juggler, but he is just not on tonight.

Bravesbill said...

That was quite the TOB possession. 2 runs up the middle to create a third and long. Then a 5 yard pass, well short of the first down marker. What in the hell is going on?

eagleboston said...

Michigan getting beat 32-7! Burned by a fake Statue of Liberty play. I predict Carr will resign unless they step it up in Big Ten play.

Beck looks like a much better QB than Ryan today. Maybe this is Ryan's one bad game and he can turn things around next week. We must hope!

Wolfpack up to 2 yards rushing!

Bravesbill said...

Are you kidding? Beck has 5 turnovers. Ryan is not the problem today. His numbers would be much prettier if his receivers could hang onto the ball. Robinson has 5 drops by himself!

eagleboston said...

Good point Bravesbill, although at least 2 of the drops were poorly thrown passes. I can't see how anyone could call this a good game by Ryan. He is capable of much better.

This game is far from over, but you have to love TOB's clock management

Unknown said...

Like I said, 10yds-1st down-INT

YQ said...

So you guys are pretty negative...

Bravesbill said...

Wow, look what happens when linebackers blitz. They get pressure on the quarterback, forcing Beck to throw the ball up for grabs. Spaz actually make a halftime adjustment! Once the blitzes starting coming, NCST's offense looked pretty mediocre in the second half. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to make these changes.

Werner Von Spaziani

On the offensive side...stickum anyone??

we make our own movies said...

ATL, you need to stop this in-game posting thing- you have managed to attract two of the biggest whining blowhards on the planet.

Bravesbill said...

It's called reality Doug. You don't think BC looked absolutely dreadful on offense and on defense in the first half? What planet are you on? Why don't you get off your high horse, get a reality check, and stop accepting mediocrity. I bet you were a TOB apologist.

Chiswick93 said...

Well.

These guys must be real fun to watch a game with. Midway through the first half, and they're already conceding this game, the next one, and calling for coaching changes.
