The Road Not Taken

When Jags was hired he told the story of leaving Logan Airport ten years ago and telling his wife that “they’d be back.” Funny how things work out. When Jags looks across the field at Notre Dame he’ll have another reminder of his serendipitous career. Bill Lewis is Notre Dame’s DBs coach. In the early ‘90s he made a name for himself by leading East Carolina to their best season ever and capping it off with a Peach Bowl win. Georgia Tech quickly hired him to replace the departing Bobby Ross. Most of the East Carolina staff followed Lewis to Atlanta. Two notables (Steve Logan and Jags) stayed on at East Carolina. Logan, given the chance to run the show, went on to become the winningest coach in Pirates history. Jags helped Logan and then used East Carolina’s raised profile to get the job as TOB’s first OC. Lewis washed out at Tech after three seasons.
