BC vs The Big Ten

One of the benefits of bowl season is seeing various matchups that don't occur during the regular season. Michigan State-BC is one of those matchups. We've only played the Spartans five times, most recently in 1995. BC has never faced a Big Ten team in a bowl game. In fact, I was surprised by how rarely we play Big Ten teams. Considering we were independent for much of our history, you would think we would have served as a schedule filler with these midwest powers. This just shows that these schools have been lightening their load for decades. Of the current Big Ten schools, we have never played Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue nor Wisconsin in football. The following is our record against the Big Ten schools we have faced.

-- Indiana 1-0

-- Michigan 0-4

-- Michigan State 3-1-1

-- Northwestern 1-2

-- Ohio State 0-3

-- Penn State 4-19 (BC has only played Penn State twice since the Lions joined the Big 10)

Marriott Downtown Orlando, 1.1 miles from the citrus bowl. I hope to see everyone at the game. It is time to turn this travel rep thing around. Other years we were begging for the Champs Sports Bowl, this year we got it (even though our team deserves better)

On another note I don't want to hear any hockey talk coming from State fans. That is still a pretty sore subject.

Doing some back of the envelope math, I thought it was interesting to compare the regular season ACC records over the past 3 years. We have been one of the better programs in the ACC, not to mention accounting for 2 of VTech's 4 conference losses over the 3 years.

No reason to think this won't continue, and no reason we shouldn't think we can compete for the ACC Atlantic year in, year out.

VTech 20-4
BC 16-8
Ga Tech 16-8
Wake 14-10
Clemson 14-10
UVA 13-11
FSU 12-12
Miami 11-13
Maryland 11-13
UNC 9-15
NC State 8-16
Duke 0-24

One interesting note about that last post,
Our record vs Top 5 teams: 9-2
Our record vs Bottom 6 teams: 7-6

"This just shows that these schools have been lightening their load for decades."

Really? How?

I'm glad to see the recent success of the program, but the 2007 BC team is not representative of the BC teams of the independent days.
