Are we playing the right D?

Interesting piece over on Basketball Prospectus on where shots are taken in college basketball. Kenpom wonders if the best style of D is to deny the long distance and close stuff and let teams take mid-range shots all day. Our D cannot do much right lately, but when working Al prefers to pack in the D and let teams try to beat us with the 3. Maybe that is not the answer. I don't expect a change anytime soon, but it is something to ponder in the offseason.

For a team that like to pack it in, we sure do give up a bunch of layups

LA, I don't think we play D well or have for many years. I have heard Al say many times that he'll let teams shoot 3s. I also thinks he would like guys to play man with a guy like Blair or Williams playing help D.

1) Bruce Pearl is NOT coming to BC.
2) Pearl has a sketchy recruiting scandal tied to him back when he was an assistant at Iowa.

I'd love to see Bruce Pearl come back, but lets be honest: it won't happen. Yes you could make an argument that the ACC may be more prestigious than the SEC but thats very debatable these days and probably not even true anymore. Why would he leave Tennessee for BC? I also think he's got a bad rap for that recruiting incident. Basically he called out another coach for recruiting violations. You can say all you want about a coaches code, but I side with Bruce. He saw something he knew was wrong and brought it to the media's attention.

He wouldn't come to BC. While ACC still may be a little more prestigious than SEC basketball (debatable), its much easier to win in the SEC in my opinion.

Duke and UNC are always going to be perennial powers, while in the SEC, I think there hasn't been a clear cut of teams above the rest.

I love Bruce Pearl, but I didn't link to that column for a reason -- Al is not going anywhere. He will even get a pass next year. When our current freshmen are Juniors, then you might see the pressure build.

@ ATL - Agreed. Fan apathy for the ball team isn't going to be solved by bringing in Bruce Pearl IMO.
