BC unveiled the
men's basketball schedule. Outside of the preseason NIT, it is the usual slate of ACC games, New England games and the Big Ten challenge game. The NIT is a nice addition as we've recently begged off or have been passed over the more established holiday tournaments. Winning the NIT carries more cache then 10 Island Jams or Vegas Invitationals. The ACC Tournament is in Atlanta, so you're all welcome to crash at my place.
Here's an interview with Jeff Smith. [I had to pull the Jeff Smith video. It was screwing up the page. You can view it here.]
ACC Nation put up their preseason podcast.
A fair bit of intrigue regarding BC Guy and Tom Brady confidant Will McDonough (here and here). My college internship at WEEI overlapped with Will's time there (he was in high school). Even then he was pretty hard working and plugged in...so it's not a Brady thing.

Wow - Bryant, SC-Upstate AND Harvard ???- you guys aren't afraid of anyone, are you??...I can see where Al would have trouble squeezing in the likes of Holy Cross.
I for one like playing the College of Holy Cross. It helps me remember they exist. It's very easy to forget, sadly. Back in the day they actually mattered.
I thought Maryland fans were known as smart, witty and well informed? Well, Maryland Conservatarian, your team also plays Bryant, as well as Youngstown State, Delaware State, and Elon. Why come on our blog complaining about our schedule? And doesn't your team have a "better" coach, more highly touted recruits, and a recent national championship? surely you should be decrying your own schedule rather than attacking ours
I think the HC guys would be better off worrying about the teams that are actually on their schedule. Perhaps that would help them get past the Patriot quarterfinals and maybe even allow them to avoid another season sweep at the hands of Navy.
Couple of home 9 PM weekday tip-offs on there. I like it because it means I'll have time for dinner after work instead of eating Conte hot dogs, but I can't imagine those games are going to be popular with families, who were probably the most consistent fans as far as attendance goes last year.
The real news is Jeff Smith. I get butterflys just thinking about his freshmane year success.
I agree w/ John. The highlights in that Jeff Smith video were getting me fired up. We definitely missed that last year.
I'm old enough to remember when beating Holy Cross was a major accomplishment. Providence and Holy Cross were the cream of New England in basketball for sure, until we rose up to shake things up. When I was at BC our rivarly with Holy Cross was very intense and therefore a lot of fun. They were snubbed by the Big East - I don't remember the reasons why (too many small Catholic Schools?) - and the rest is history.
I'll think of Maryland as the top-notch program it is - no need to belittle anyone. We're playing Bryant because of new Head Coach Tim O'Shea, formerly a BC assistant.
I agree with Joe Bags - the 9:00pm weeknight tipoffs are tough - everything is controlled by TV, of course. Someday the bubble will burst - just don't know when. Seems as though we had attendance problems last year because of stuff like this.
I hope Jeff Smith remains injury free. He's got a lot of guts and seems like a real nice guy. Watching him run for daylight will be very exciting.
And when we read about what Jeff Smith has gone through to get back on the field - and what Wes Davis and Brian Toal have gone through to name several - we realize that we have players who are very dedicated and we are honored that they represent Boston College - they and we are BC!
Let's hope that this is a season of nicks and bruises, but no major injuries!!!!!
uhh, the point of my post is not to belittle your schedule (esp. as it compares to Maryland's) but merely to highlight Al's inexplicable (gutless?) decision to dis-continue playing your most-contested basketball rival (against which you still have a losing record)...
