Hockey picks up the win tonight 5-3 to go up 1-0 in their series with UNH.....

I feel really good about tonight's game. Hopefully the guys pull through and prove it's not just ignorant optimism.

It's going to be a long night if BC does not box out and get some rebounds. It appears Duke wants the ball more. They have yanked the ball from BC at least 3 times so far. I'm also concerned about the wild charges. Duke's players are too smart to just charge right at them. The good news it is still early.

Duke's defense is suffocating us. And with Sanders out, Rice unable to create his own shot, we're turning ugly.

Two points in the first 8 mins.

Ugh.

tyrese rice needs to stop running the point. he's a great shooter, but can't break a good defense to save his life.

Not many teams beat Duke twice in the same year unless they have the initials UNC.

is it too late to take that previous comment back?

The flex is atrocious.

Duke always overplays the passing lanes and that is essentially what the flex is designed to do--make short passes away from the basket. We can't get to our spots in the offense. We wind up playing isolation bball with Rice 40 feet from the basket. Every shot is contested. Duke is all about defense tonight.

Gonna need to make some adjustments.

Eleven points with 6 mins. left.

Nice little run by the Eagles!

when paris handles the ball good things happen

Anybody who thinks Rice could play in the NBA might want to watch how Duke plays him.

Put a taller, athletic forward on him with long arms and force him right...game over.

Hopefully he'll get some open 3's and get the team out in transition. I think that's how he'll be effective tonight.

If Duke had hit their shots in the first 10-12 minutes, this game might already be in the bag. Good thing they're having an off night--and we're playing pretty good defense, even if we're not rebounding all that well.

hope reggie jackson's elbow is ok. that would be a bad bad loss.

Does anyone else hear the distinct pro-Duke undertones in EVERYTHING Mike Patrick says? Scheyer commits a blocking foul and Patrick incorrectly praises it as him taking a charge. Before he was bemoaning BC's offense and praising Dukes defense. Score was 17-11, FGs were BC 5-19, Duke 6-21.

Ok I'm better now, just needed to get that out.

BC's shots are falling now and they could not hit anything in the first 10 minutes. The pressure is all on Duke.

Love the 3 by Rice to end the half!

"I ain't playin' no more. I ain't playin' no more."

Nice shot Tyrese.

Well, that was monster fun! We didn't get nuts and lose our poise because Al was cool and called that time out when BC was down and stalling...and then we watched our very young team hang tough and deny Duke with constant D and slowly push the ball to the glass, and coach K's face told the story. BC is not afraid of Duke and the 3's just started fallin'--monster fun, I say--monster fun.

Mmason, do the margaritas still flow in the b-ball season?

I'm nursing a cold so I'm having a little Maker's Mark and honey.

eagleboston said...

Trapani needs to hit the weight room. He has had the ball yanked out of his hands at least 3 times.

This game is going to come down to who wants it more.

Duke is going to get crushed by a more athletic team in the NCAAs. They'll lose in the Sweet 16 game. All they do is drive and kick.

Looks like the momentum has turned. Not good.

eagleboston said...

Rice better get down to business or this game is finito.

eagleboston said...

Of course, Skinner lets Duke go on a massive run without calling a timeout.

Mike Patrick is as big a Duke hack as Vitale

eagleboston said...

It's asking a lot to beat Duke with both Southern and Jackson out. I hope they are healed by the tourney.

Rob said...

The Mike Patrick Doctrine: When a BC player shows emotion he is hot dogging. But when Singler runs down the court screaming after a dunk, he just loves the game.

We may go with the Balvenie if this goes down with a big W...
it's nervous time...Go Eagles!

Not Rakim Sanders' best game tonight.

Kind of a weak defensive effort against Henderson.

Here we go Tyrese...

CT said...

Are you kidding?

Gee, a steal on an inbounds pass.

Shocking.

5.5 secs left...

Win or lose...a fun game to watch.

CT said...

Horrible shot.

CT said...

You HAVE to get to the basket.

And Tyrese is the best guy to do that. And he didn't touch the ball. But Roche did.

Nice heart, good perserverance tonight. Will need that in the NCAAs.

Another game vs. Duke that gets away.

Disappointing.

mmason said...

Well that sucked...why not just drive the ball? Going for a 3? What was Al thinkin'?
See y'all at the dance, I guess.
I hope we see Duke again in the tournement...and that Southern and Reggie are okay--Go Eagles!

John B said...

I'll never understand why Tyrese ran away from the ball on that last play.

im trying to figure out why al didnt call a timeout under dukes basket. we had three left and clearly we couldnt get the ball in.

i dont understand why when casually watching any other team play inbounding the ball is not even noticed, but when i watch bc play i am stressed out every time we have to pass the ball in every time.

this team is going to be so good in two years.

trapani will be an all american

Unknown said...

calling that timeout with 5.5 left shocked me. put too much pressure on us i think. here's looking forward to the tournament. i saw a little spark from this team that i think will go a long way in the tournament.

This one is right up there with the Villanova and USC losses on the frustration scale. Thankfully it doesn't end our season.

The officiating was absolutely awful. The ACC should be embarassed. I can't even count how many terrible calls there were. Henderson flat out misses a dunk over Trapani where the only contact is Henderson's other arm clearing out, and that's a foul. Southern, Trapani and Rice repeatedly get knocked to the floor around the basket, and that's just good defense. They let Duke grab, slap, and push off the ball all game, then on the other end they call everything tight. And I'm sorry, if you attempt to slide under someone who is in the air, get there late and start to back off, but they land on your feet and you trip them, that's a foul. I'm so sick of this crap with Duke. If this game was officiated fairly we would have won by 10 to 15 points. What a joke.

What the heck is it going to take for Big Al to put in some new inbounds plays?????

Proud of the guys that they hung in there and made two difficult comebacks. Our defense was great all night, and the fact that we can stick with Duke on a night when our offense was pretty disjointed and the officiating was slanted should give us some confidence heading into the tournament where we'll hopefully get a fair shake.
