Critiquing Dinich and other links

(Sorry for the long break between Monday and Tuesday's posts. Every once in a while real life interferes with blogging. I'll try to get back to a more consistent schedule in the coming weeks.)

My connection with Heather Dinich has been sort of an inside joke among the blog crowd and on the BC message boards. But the reality is her work frustrates me to no end. Take her article on the BC qb battle. This simple piece represents the problem with ESPN's conference blogger concept. She offers no new information to the die hard BC fans and it's probably a little too long to engage a fan of another ACC program. I understand the limitations and time constraints of blogging. I know Dinich works hard. I just wish she would try to take new looks on old topics or at least get better quotes. She has great access, yet doesn't have Spaz (or Tranq) saying anything new about any of the QBs. It is a missed opportunity. I have plenty of missed opportunities on this blog, but this is a hobby and an outlet for me. She gets paid to blog. Hopefully I will have a Q&A with HD in the future and she can better explain ESPN's direction with these blogs.

The baseball team pounded Northeastern Tuesday.

Here is more on Petrecki's signing with San Jose.

There is a reason I don't read much, if any, of HD's blog. I have already heard/seen/read about it somewhere else! Besides, it's not really blogging, it's just reporting. Surprisingly there is a difference.

Ask her what her favorite LNH Photoshop is.

Mine is still the long-neck bottle...

I hear ya, basically the one reason I'm going the Globe, Herald, HD's blog, EagleInsider, EagleAction, BCI, and Eagle in Atlanta these days is for any info on BC spring football. I don't want to read about the Sox, C's, B's etc. Right now we're practicing, probably scrimmaging, there's a new coach and a couple of intriguing position battles, and we can't get any information at all.

Finally Spaz talks to a reporter, and what we get is an article I could have accurately thrown together last October.

I almost never read her blog. Her giggling "interview" with Drew Weatherford a couple years ago-- our first introduction to her-- was an insult to journalism.

The thing that concerns me most about Davis is his throwing mechanics. It's almost identical to former Philadelphia Eagles QB Randall Cunningham's full-wingspan wind-up. The difference is that Cunningham had phenomenal footwork, agility and quickness for a tall guy and Davis has none of that. Add to that he's still pretty slow at reading the D and you get a lot of late throws that turn into picks or forced throws that sail high because they're rushed.

On a happier note, it should be fun to see what the O-line can do with a running game that consists of more than two plays.

When is the Spring Game?

It appears as though Coach Spaziani wants to keep a close lid on the early sessions of spring practice until he pretty much knows what he has.

In the meantime, we're dying over here as BlockParty said yesterday.

Atl curse for the Women - missing a ticket to the WNIT championship round by the score of 82-65.

Great job anyway - and have a great off-season. Next year looks real good - thanks for everything.

Attendance 700 - the women deserve better than that for sure.
