Game Watches: Florida State

There is a little controversy surrounding game watches. In some cities there have been splinter watches that weren't run by the local alumni chapter. I don't want to get into the politics of it all. I just want to help BC fans connect. That said, below are the list of game watches for Florida State. I encourage all chapters to hold them but as our friends in Denver showed earlier this year, if you have two BC fans in a room watching a game I consider it a game watch. The important thing is the camaraderie and passion for BC. If there are official or unofficial watches that I have not listed, post the information in the comments section.

There was a second ATL group, but our alumni association roughed 'em up. Made 'em sleep with the fishes like Vinny.

Know what I mean?

ATL, you going to come out for this one?

The more fans and gamewatches the merrier, I say. But you might want to separately classify the official gamewatches and the "unofficial" watches.

last season i contacted the LA alumni guy to try to set up an alternative gamewatch in a different part of the city. i had a bar that was ready and willing to do it. he said that he would happily include it in his email to LA alumni announcing the gamewatch at Sonny's. the email went out. there was no mention of the alternative gamewatch. he is dead to me. and sonny's sucks.

Does Sonny's really suck? I just moved here a few months ago and haven't made it out to a game watch yet... I was thinking about going to Sonny's this week, but does anyone show/care about BC there?

AC,

my problem with Sonny's is that it's first and foremost a professional Boston sports bar. if the Sox or Bruins or C's are playing at the same time as a BC game, BC gets booted to another location. we're 2nd class citizens to them. i've also heard stories about the owners/employees being rude to BC alumni, treating our games as a joke, not turning the game and/or audio on by kickoff, etc. it's a one-way relationship and we're on the wrong end.

with that said, i don't want to discourage you from attending. i've made a personal decision not to go there. some of that has to do with the fact that i'm crazy about BC football so i prefer to be able to see every second of every play, scream & yell, throw things, etc. and a social setting like sonny's can make that difficult. then there's also my vendetta. if you enjoy the bar setting for BC games, please go.

edit: my problem isn't necessarily that Sonny's is first and foremost a professional Boston sports bar, it's that i think the "home" of BC football in LA should treat BC with the same level of respect as it shows for professional Boston sports teams.

Anyone know of an Austin game watch?

I hear you, dude, and frankly that's the impression that I got from the flippant way they treated me when I called about the game.

I agree with you that if they are going to be LA's home to the BC game watch, BC should be on the same level as the other teams they support. Nothing's worse than being at a sports bar that doesn't know how to treat it's patrons right, let alone at a team-specific bar.

So, I'll probably give it a shot later in the season, perhaps for a less meaningful game, and hope for the best.
