BC takes down BU

The hockey team remained red hot with a 4-1 victory over Boston University at BU. This follows the win over UMass on Friday. BC is unbeaten in their last five and will certainly move up in the polls.

kick ass win, especially in light of the WSJ article which felt like it favored Parker as the better coach slightly.

Last year's run in the NCAA's saved BU's ass in terms of measuring up to BC for the last 12 years. They do own the Beanpot, but it has become such a psycho job that even the refs look for a reason to favor the small dogs in that tourney. In the ones that count, Hockey East and NCAA, BC is still king, and this year looks to be no different.

So.... USC, huh. Start the series early.

big win by the eagles today vs. miami. we shot like crap from the field but absolutely dominated the boards by a 25 rebound margin. miami only had 4 offensive rebounds all game. they did shoot almost 45% but that is still impressive.

it was a weird game in that it was close in the first half and the second half was punctuated by a big BC run followed immediately by a big miami run.

jackson played really well. the kid is just an animal. he's fast, he rebounds, he takes it to the hoop, and (a bonus) he plays to the crowd and gets them involved without being over the top. not sure if it will make the highlight reels, but he threw down on a miami defender with 18 seconds left that should have sealed the game and was one of the most athletic play i remember seeing from an eagle is a long time. a charge was called, but the replay showed that the defender hadn't stopped moving.

miami's a good shooting team and we managed to beat them without okaying our best offensive game. we just outhustled them, which was good to see.

next: revenge against harvard

Harvard actually gave UConn a good game today...

With that said, not a bad weekend for BC: Hockey notched two solid W's on the road (over UMass/BU), BBall looked solid over Miami (that Jackson dunk was absurd- literally had me recalling Vince Carter's 2002 Dream Team slam OVER a french dude), and football locked up a nice bowl matchup w/ the Trojans.

Jeremy Lin had 30 and 9 vs. UConn today. Think he has a chip on his shoulder?

good win, especially cause joe really wasn't able to get it going. biko was making some great passes. reggie's dunk was awesome, hopefully we have a few more highlights out of him this year. decent crowd but could have been better for a sunday afternoon. got loud towards the end.

in conte they replayed reggie's spectacular "offensive foul" about 15 times in slow motion on the giant new crystal clear hi def scoreboard. the refs were watching it during a timeout. they must have realized that they blew it.

That is going to be one boring football game. BC and USC's offenses are pretty pathetic. USC has more offensive weapons though but BC looks to be better on defense (although you can't really tell playing in the lousy ACC all year). Should be a decent, but horribly boring game.

Love Reggie. BC needs a guy like that. He is picking up where Dudley left off, from an emotional standpoint. Somebody to get the crowd into it and keeps them coming back for more. Less than capacity crowds are a fact of life for BC basketball faithful, but it helps so much to have a guy like Reggie to get the loyal ones excited. God bless ‘em. On the other hand, I’ve been disappointed in Trap. I think he was 1-12 at one point – yikes! Maybe he’s trying too hard. He needs to learn a few lessons from Raji – less is more – let your shots come to you. Biko hasn’t been up to my expectations either, but I think he will come around. He’s just adjusting to life without Rice. He has the ball in his hands a LOT, so his flaws are easily exposed. Southern … what can I say … the guy is a liability. Give me Elmore or Ravenel – or just somebody with a f-ing PULSE. Oh well, I should calm down and just enjoy the fact that BC is #1 in the ACC for the next few weeks. I hope it lasts …

And as for football ... love the USC matchup. It's nice to be the underdog in a bowl game for the first time in a decade. This is a marque matchup that can only help recruiting (as long as we don't get competely blown out.)

So Stanford thinks playing OK in El Paso is better than BC in San Fran?

I don't think so...[grin]

Here's video of Reggie's dunktonight. Mediocre picture quality, but you get the effect. Kid's got ups.

nice dunk...thanks for the link...boys need to get sanders back and start on the chemistry issues.

i don't think the bowl game will be boring, but i do think we'll stay in that soft zone all day and keep everything underneath, since we haven't played that kind of speed yet. usc's tight end is scary good--don't like that matchup w/ our linebackers.

if ever we needed shinskie to manage a game...

funny, seems like forever ago that barkley was hailed as the next coming after winning on the road at ohio state. the talking heads on espn were effusive. don't hear much about the ol' freshman "sensation" anymore.

don't think usc's defense is as bad as everyone has been saying, but, just as with barkley, there has been some regression. first half of the season was good for that unit.

they run the ball well. probably comes down to whether harris can be superman again, or mcknight, et al, get the job done.

i don't know if playing usc helps recruiting, but playing on the west coast can't hurt. it's a 3 hr ad.

There are few things - aside from beating ND in football - that I enjoy as much as beating BU in hockey. Great win!
