Report: Sanders leaving

Jeff Goodman is reporting that Rakim Sanders is leaving BC. Where the rising senior will transfer is unknown. Sanders would have to sit out a year and only have one year remaining.

With any coaching change you expect transfers, but I didn't expect the seniors to leave. Sanders' season was such a train wreck last year that you would hope he would stick around and let the new staff help him reach his potential.

Instead he is leaving. If anything Sanders represented what went wrong with this group of guys and the end of the Skinner era. Instead of having gym rats with physical limitations, you had a team of guys with huge upside who never got "it."

Best of luck to Rakim.

Rakim is crazy. This makes no sense for him or the program. What an r tard.

Surprised by the move (ESPN article says he's moving to Fairfield). He's talented, but his effort last year was a joke.

Might be a short term hit, but not the worst thing to befall Coach Donahue.

Yeah, I can't say we're better off without him because we aren't. But clearly he was awful last year and we don't know if next year would have been better. Certainly all the potential in the world is there.

I wonder if there will be more. I'm still worried about Brady Heslip. Since Al left, he's said nothing positive about BC, only "I need to get better" type of stuff. The kid is from Canada and made no mention of the hockey national championship or a reaction to the student's celebrating the win (which shows what type of support the BC students can give instead of what he saw in Conte this winter). He's also not said anything which mentions Coach Donohue. That is just weird to ignore something like that.

The funny part is how we all think the coaching change is better for him.

Effort last year + bizzare decision to tranfer really calls into question the kids heart and basketball priorities. If playing for Skinner was the deal breaker for the Sanders, why didn't he dedicate himself when he had the chance to play for the guy?

My concern isn't Rakim no longer playing for BC, it's that we've seen no evidence of the new staff connecting with any kids yet.

Hopefully my perception here is way off.

Rakim was really close with Preston Murphy... has anyone heard where he might be headed?

there were rumors, even before the coaching change, that rakim was leaving anyway. who knows what his decision was based upon...all reports are that he wasn't exactly thriving here anyway. hopefully he is better off wherever he winds up.

BC basketball is in rebuilding mode. Is there any way Sander's vacating a scholarship early accelerates the transition of the squad to a true Donahue team ore is it too late (recruiting-wise) to matter?

Too Bad. I had high hopes for him next year.
