In-game comments post: Weber State

The season is finally here and I don't think anyone is more excited than the Herzlich family. I don't expect much drama, but this post is for you to leave your thoughts throughout the game. You can also follow me on Twitter or join the discussion on the Eagle Insider message boards.

Oh that Shinskie. Brilliant.

I never understood the staff's preference for Shinskie last year. He rarely showed much during games. Big arm, yes, but poor accuracy, poor mechanics, poor pocket sense, and poor decision-making. Let's hope that first pass is just one play and not a continuation of last year.

Can't listen to the game anymore now that it's not free. Wonderful. And thank you Time Warner for not carrying ESPN3. Worst company ever.

My computer crashed right before the game so I missed Herzy coming out of the tunnel. I'll have to watch the replay later today.

The young receivers look good. Like KPL also.

Herzy with a nice tackle!

Bravesbill,

You can't get the game on WRKO?

Try your Time Warner access now. This morning's paper reported that T-W made a last minute deal with Disney to include ESPN3 effective today.

Premium all-access has volume problems with the sound being too low.

I'm down in South Carolina so I can't get any affiliates. And I've tried to get ESPN3 already today. I think that deal was just for the actual television content, not internet stuff.

Bravesbill said...

Thank God WRKO streams it live on the internet.

Love the smashmouth football! Harris had some nice runs on the TD drive out of the double tight end formation.

Jonathan Coleman looks great. I am really not a huge Shinskie fan. I'm nervous for all his throws. Herzlich and Kuechly had one tackle together that pumped me up. Montel looks good, we're kicking ass.

I always hated ESPN360 (now ESPN3), especially when Comcast didn't have a deal with them. Kudos to ESPN for bringing HD cameras to a game like today's.

My brother is at Alumni and he said the wind is very, very strong. Might explain the ball hanging in the air on a couple Shinskie passes.

eagleboston said...

Wow, did you see that hole that Sterlin had?

mod34b said...

The espn3 picture is decent

mod34b said...

Pass rush still weak

Galvin said...

very weak. they are exploiting the gap pretty easily

eagleboston said...

Anyone else concerned about our defense? They look extremely slow in pursuit and, once again, the pass rush is just not there.

Bravesbill said...

The secondary is also getting shredded to pieces.

Galvin said...

Yeah I am not too happy with the pass defense. Spaziani's zone schemes get picked apart by decent quarterbacks.

Galvin said...

ok gause!

Galvin said...

Marscovetra, if you are better than Uncle Dave, please take this job.

eagleboston said...

I think our running back situation is set.

WRKO 680AM is carrying the radio broadcast on line for free. The sound quality is better than the CBS All Access Premium broadcast.

You are right that T-W might not have implemented the change over yet. It does include ESPN3:

Associated Press
Time Warner Cable customers get ESPN3 in new deal
Associated Press, 09.02.10, 06:11 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES -- Time Warner Cable customers will finally get access to the sports website ESPN3.com, even if they are not subscribers to the company's Internet plan.

In a long-term deal with Disney ( DIS - news - people ) announced Thursday, ESPN3.com access will be made available to all of Time Warner Cable ( TWC - news - people )'s video subscribers without an extra charge.

ESPN3.com offers full game videos, and recently carried live World Cup games that weren't being shown on ABC.

Time Warner Cable and its affiliate, Bright House Networks, had long been holdouts, saying Disney's pattern of tying fees to the number of Internet subscribers was inappropriate.

The long-term deal also ensure's Disney gets carriage of a new 24-hour channel called Disney Junior, which launches in 2012.

Herzy lacks his signature black mask.. What's the deal!'

Bravesbill I spent the morning on the phone with TWC. ESPN 3 is going to be avialable on TWC but they haven't figured out when (what takes time to set it up is beyond me) but apparently they will let us know when it's avaialbe.

I ordered the ESPN Goal Line Channel this morning which at least lets me see occasional look ins for the game. It's a great channel like NFL Red Zone for college football. Anyone else check it out yet?

mod34B,

The NCAA banned face painting and messages on eye black. It was in response to Terrelle Pryor writing "Vick" on his eyeblack. They just waited until Tim Tebow and his bible passages graduated to pass the rule.

mmason said...

ESPN3 is working, but has that weird stop action freeze and variable image quality.

And about Shinskie vs. MarscoV-- Shin started shaky, sure, but his arm and accuracy seem strong. He's got an athletic poise that clearly got him the job over Marsco

Is Coleman doing a job or what? Our pass D sucks, again, tho--that soft cushion cover2 thing is aweful. We give up yardage in 5 and 8+ yard catches. These guys will tear us up in Half2 if somebody doesn't adjust this. Totally agree that our pass rush is weak. Is it the front 4? Why are we getting beatdeep?

Yeah--Herzy looks good--getting his sea legs. Luke is in there and Wes Davis, too. The Phifer kid is impressive--and Montel is awesome.
Our TE's will be key this year--Pantale for sure. But special team D on kick-offs, and pass D is really weak. The O line looks tough--and throwing to Montel is a great idea...but everyone else we play won't fumble the ball like Weber has...
Well, let's see what happend in stanza two.
GO BC EAGLES!

Galvin said...

they really marched down on us here

mod34b said...

D is awful against an FCS team. ACC play might be rough

mmason said...

Mod34B, you nailed it--and we're dodging bullets with that pick6. Yeah, it's a 1st game, but Deleon got hosed for several blown covers for the entire 3rd qtr. This pass D is deja vu all over again from last year. Cover2 and prevent are lame defenses against a Weber St. that can throw underneath...I got worries.

Galvin said...

I am concerned Spaziani will never make necessary adjustments mid-game.

mmason said...

Anybody out there have any thoughts on coaching and halftime adjustments?
Our run game sure looks good--vs. Weber St., but the pass in the endzone was...weird.

Galvin said...

Not happy with our defensive choices. Our offense was pretty stagnant in the 2nd half. I think our potential is good, we just gotta put something together better when we play the big boys.

mmason said...

Our offense did nothing in the 2nd half vs. Weber State...Wow...

Disney and Time Warner Cable cut new deal. For all the months of talk about how intense the next contract talks between Disney and Time Warner Cable would be, it appears that a deal came off without a hitch. On Thursday afternoon, only a few hours after the old contract expired, a deal was reached to keep Disney's ABC broadcast stations and cable channels ESPN, ABC Family and Disney Channel on Time Warner Cable systems. Time Warner Cable will also carry Disney Junior, its new kids channel, and get access to Disney products for video on demand. One of Disney big asks, to have Time Warner Cable pay a big fee for its broadband service ESPN3, did not come to fruition.

Looks like it didn't happen unfortunately.

mmason said...

I mean like NOTHING vs. a well coached Weber State...

Big Jack Krack said...

Watched the whole game - defense is awful right now. Terrible in fact.

Uncle Dave can't get the ball to his talented receivers. Might have been the wind, but I'm suspicious.

Scott Weigman said...

There's also mutliple press releases out there saying they did get a deal done. That's the only one I've seen that said they didn't.
