Women's hoop record night and other links

In their end of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, the BC women took on Penn State. And like the men, they had an impressive victory, defeating PSU 113-104. It was the most points the BC women have ever scored.

Here is the latest on Albert Louis-Jean and his new suitors. I would like to see him at BC, but I expect whenever Miami makes a hire, that new coach will go hard after him. I also expect some other schools to emerge.

For those of you who missed the Herzy piece on Gameday, it is included in this link on ESPNBoston.com.

Nice win for the women's team last night. They are now 7-0, their best start since 2003-2004.

Is 104 the most points they've ever given up? That's got to be one of the highest-scoring D1 women's games ever, right?

BCDoubleEagle said...

Almost -- they gave up 107 at UConn on 2-9-99.

Also, the highest scoring d-1 women's game is SMU 127, TCU 125 in four overtimes on 1-25-97.

So, it must be very close to a record for highest score in regulation, right? 35 points in four overtimes is not many points.

Good question. The NCAA record book (where I found that SMU/TCU record) doesn't specifically list the highest combined score after regulation. But it does list a record for most points in a losing effort in regulation: Providence 128, Georgetown 114 on 2-4-91. The game last night was 94-94 after regulation.

For those without ESPNU, I think you'll be able to find it on channelsurfing.net.

BC is also sponsoring a big two-screen game watch in Yawkey tonight with the soccer and hockey games on simultaneously.

Just something of note: Our men's soccer team made it to the NCAA tournament.
Our women's soccer team is playing in the semi's.
Our hockey team is competing for a consecutive NC.
Our men's basketball team is looking better than anyone expected.
Our women's b-ball is 7-0.
Our football, well, we're looking forwarding to next year for football.
Sailing has brought home another NC.
Is it just me, or is BC becoming a very, very competitive academic/athletics institution (similar to UCLA and such)?

Stanford scores early in the second half. 1-0 Stanford.

2-0 Stanford final. Congrats to our team for the first final four appearance in program history.

Hockey team is kicking butt. 8-3 late in the third period.

Hockey beats BU 9-5 and the announcers on CBSCS say that BC should be nervous about tomorrows rematch. Huh?

a win is a win, especially against BU, but that was ugly tonight. we should have buckled down and cruised to a win, but we let BU get 4 in the third period which shouldn't happen.

the refs never put the whistles away and BU scored after a very strange play that was originally whistled as a penalty, reviewed and reversed to a goal, but the penalty was allowed to stand. BU scored on the subsequent PP. i am sure some more enlightened hockey mind can explain it

I suspect the announcers were building up Saturday night's game because they are broadcasting it.
