I'm from LA but I'll be in Portland this weekend for the game. Is there a BC game watch in downtown Portland? Thanks!

Not to be a negative nancy, but while I love that NJ has a chapter, its relative inactivity is kind of sad, considering we're the 3rd or 4th biggest state (or used to be) in terms of sending kids to The College.

I'm not sure why they locate their game watches are in Jersey City and not Hoboken? There are a lot of alumni that live in the boken and for us to get to downtown JC, albeit it only 2 miles, costs either $15 for a cab or 20 minutes on the light rail. If I'm going to spend 20 minutes on a train, I might as well get on the one heading into NYC and go to a bigger game watch? That's only logical. Additionally, there'd probably be a better chance of getting a good turnout in Hoboken with the major train station there (not JC) so everyone can easily walk to to bar...

One more thing!

Not sure whether it is Shanghai Kelly's or not, but I was in San Fran last summer and walked past a bar near the major pier (whichever that is) and they had a BC flag flying out front during the off season (while school was out)! Made me very proud!

Joshua Tree might be the biggest douche bar in NYC. It is for a young crowd to be fair, but it is full of idiots and scumbags. Why are we affiliating ourselves with these people? What happened to the BC alum owned bar in NYC people used to go to?

I've never been to J Tree in NYC, but Vertigo was last year's bar and it wasn't very good for socialized. It was also sold in the off season. I think you're talking about Thunder Jacksons, but it wasn't great for watching sports and despite being BC Alumni owned they didn't exactly hook it up... Sadly, considering the crowd size we bring (compared to what it SHOULD BE), it is hard for us to get priority at a bar that is easily commutable for everyone... J Tree is really making a push for us though, so you have to give it a try...

anything in LA?

Joshua Tree is pretty douchey but Vertigo was the worst gamewatch ever. Limited drink menu, no specials, bad layout and crappy tvs. When it was at Still it used to be better but then all of a sudden their staff gave up trying and made it seem like we were bothering them. Willing to give JTree a try if they are actually put some effort into it.

eagle1331, you have just made me glad I don't live in Hoboken anyone. There was a time it was considered the coolest place to live in the NYC area. If it's filled with Spaz-like whiners like you, it's clear it's not anymore. Man, it's a freakin' light rail ride along the Hudson river - stare at the skyline for 15 minutes and think about how lucky you are!

How am I a "spaz-like whiner" because the game watch decision is being illogical? There are well over 25 BC Alumni in Hoboken, which is more than we (the NJ Alumni Chapter) get at a game watch. There are well over 25 bars in the square mile, one would gladly have us. Why make the most likely crowd to attend, and probably the largest concentration of fans, travel? It's the equivalent of putting a BC game watch in Harvard Square...

Hate all you want, but you're really just being ignorant. It makes no sense, but people that live in Hoboken go out in our town, NYC, or to the beach... I like Jersey City a lot (it honestly has some of my favorite bars and is getting better regularly) but convincing someone from here to go there is like convincing a BC Alumni that BU isn't "that bad." It just doesn't happen.

Our chapter struggles to get the participation it should... it is a well documented fact with the Alumni Office and solutions are always being searched for. It seems to me the obvious one is right in front of our face.
