In-game comments post: Florida State

Reading the team play the "disrespect" angle all week has me a little uneasy. We just lost to Army. No one should respect at this point. I would have preferred if the guys had just said bland things and came out firing today. Either way, I hope they are motivated and prepared. Florida State is going to want a decisive victory to make up for their loss to NC State. I just want a hard fought game. Leave your thoughts and comments below.

How did our defense get this bad? Recruiting? I always thought McGovern was a good coach before...and our head coach is supposed to be a defensive guru, no? No wrinkles, no blitzes, totally vanilla, and horrible

Is it really a question? The DL could actually be the worst in all of DI football (that is not an exaggeration either). And I dont want hear about injuries as the guys hurt all suck as well never mind the fact that WTF is going on at BC over the past few years where everyone and their mother is hurt constantly? As for the defensive backs ... they cant even do the one thing BC DB's have done for years, not allow the big play. CJ Jones is a different level of awful. At least Rositano isnt playing as he is hurt again ... clearly he should have accepted one of his numerous DIAA offers instead of his sole IA offer as he clearly is overmatched physically every single week.

ATL,

I want to comment more, I'm just not sure what I can say about this game and Spaz that hasn't already been said. #firespaz

I'm watching back'n forth from my BC Eagles and my Freshman son's Oregon State Beavers (ranked #10) and the difference in COACHING & player prep is astounding.
The BC defense is not in your face--we're still playing soft D on pass protect, our rush is lite and there's too much backfield confusion.
The Beavers are coming back from being a doormat in the PAC#? and it's Reilly's coaching.
BC has always been about great teaching at every level, academic & athletic...but no longer in football. Our guys aren't ready for primetime anymore...Beavs just scored another TD vs. BYU...When was our last pick6???
Go Eagles! Comeback and Win this one!

I haven't commented hoping it would change our luck. After they picked us off before the half I realized it doesn't matter. Now it is just about playing hard. I also hope Rettig plays better. That was his worst half of the season.

I had to give the money talk at church so missed everything from BC not punching it in to the end of the half. Guess I didn't miss much.

Is there any point to wasting time and watching the 2nd half?

I'm so pissed that we have to pay Spaz off after we fire him. He should be forced to pay BC back for his incredible ineptitude.

I wish we could leverage the Rogers stuff to lower Spaz's buyout.

Strange timeout.

At least the commentators have finally noticed what everyone who has seen BC play regularly knows: there's been a HUGE drop off in talent and recruiting, and we're just not competitive anymore. A side effect from Gene not being there anymore to spin things?

The announcers are bored. I don't think our talent is great but it is not as bad as our record.

I thought last week was rock bottom. I was wrong.

Is it true that Spaziani's contract is good through the 2015 season?

This is a fraud perpetrated by DeFilippo. I wonder if there is vigorish - a kick back - a sharing of revenue to pad the retirement fund.

Boston College Extends Coach Spaziani

December 20, 2010

Turning around Boston College's season helped earn Eagles coach Frank Spaziani a two-year extension, athletic director Gene DeFilippo announced on Monday.

The Eagles started 2-5 this season and were riding a five-game losing streak. But BC turned it around, winning five straight to earn a berth in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl against Nevada in San Francisco on Jan. 9.

Spaziani is now signed through the 2015 season. He was an assistant for the Eagles for 12 years before his hiring in Chestnut Hill in 2009. He said he is "very appreciative" of the extension.

"Frank Spaziani has done a terrific job in his first two seasons as our head football coach," DeFilippo said in a statement. "There is no doubt in my mind that he has our program headed in the right direction. He is a man of uncompromised integrity and principle, and he has provided great stability to our program. He has overcome some obstacles along the way and is building the foundation for great things to come. This contract extension is an indication of the university's confidence in him."

After going 8-5 last season, Spaziani's record at Boston College is 16-10.

Good job, good effort!

Jack, no one knows what kind of buy out clause is in the contract. Got to be some clause like that.

Given that Spaz had very little bargaining power at the time (who else would hire him?), let's hope BC's lawyers put in a buyout clause favorable to BC.

The contract was likely announced to give recruits comfort about stability not really to reward Spaz.

Also, Think about GDF. Very controlling guy. You know GDF was not going to give Spaz a free ride for 5 years with "no strings attached" . I am sure there were lots of "levers" in the contract to allow GDF to control his prized stooge. If GDF could not utterly control and dominate him, why would that sick puppy keep Spaz around?

Well that totally sucked

We gave up 633 yards. 8.9 yards per play (are you kidding me McG???)

We will sink to Second worst FBS total defense. Giving up an average 550 yards per game. Wow

Players look down and defeated

Hope Brad got a good taste of BC football.

Good points, Mod and I hope you are right. You know more about these things than I do.

Go BC

Start the road back tonight.

Bottom line, I have always watch BC football with hope...with this head coach, there is no hope. Bates, please, I big you, have some stones and put the guy out of his misery. I look forward to another "cliche filled Spaz comments" article in tomorrow's Boston globe. He is the worst HC of all time

Sorry for the typos...you get the point

ATL: I don't know how you can watch that game and say our talent is "not as bad as our record". The talent gap on display in this game was astounding. FlSt's third stringers would start at BC. Amidon may be the only BC player who would see the field as a Seminole.

I hope Bates realizes that this program is in need of a complete rebuild, and it's going to be at least three years before we're even competitive, let alone contending. I went back through BC's season records all the way back to '74 (when I was a freshman), and it seems that these crap troughs tend to last about three seasons.

If he had any integrity, he would render his resignation. It is obvious he has failed as a HC. The players deserve better. In his heart, he must know that...

Bates: Everyone has their moment of truth. Unfortunately for you, it has come on week one. If he doesn't resign, fire him. It is crystal clear what need to be done. What are you waiting for?

I was at a wedding all evening and missed the entire game... Thank God. Clearly things can't get any worse, and Spaz is completely incapable of making them better. A loss like this deserves immediate firing.
