The latest on Boo Corrigan and AD search

I know some of you purposely avoid the message board chatter, but I thought the Boo Corrigan news and gossip merited its own post. Over the weekend, a very reliable and consistently accurate BC message board poster "BC West" posted on Eagle Action and Eagle Outsider that BC is in final negotiations with Boo Corrigan. He said that if the sides cannot come to agreement that BC will then move on to Xavier AD Mike Bobinski. BC will announce the new hire within a matter of days.

Corrigan was one of BC's first targets and came with a strong endorsement from John Swofford. However, he did initially rebuff BC. He felt that it was too soon into his Army tenure and he wasn't looking to make a move. Army offered more money, so he waffled. But BC kept the dialogue going and Corrigan became more interested.

If this comes together and Corrigan is the new AD, I will consider the process a success. BC made a major change right before the start of the school year and landed a solid replacement for Gene in less than six weeks. As for Corrigan as the new leader, I will post a full assessment when things are official.

I am crossing my fingers that Boo gets the job. He is very 'lacrosse friendly' as he ran the Duke program as asst AD and his brother is the head coach at ND.

While I think BC could be a great lax school it will come at the cost of cutting other programs, so I don't think it will be any time soon...

I dont understand, is Spaz still employed by Boston College? What is going on? Are they simply waiting for the new AD to be put into place? Wouldnt it be easier and cleaner for the new AD to not have to fire the head football coach as his first act (in what should be his first day) on the job? Give him the cover and do it before he is hired so he has a relatively clean slate.

You have to let the new AD fire Spaz. He will live with the aftermath.

Bill what happened to the press conference called for Tuesday that the twitter sphere was a buzz about on Saturday?

Is the best option for "Spaz"for to step down voluntarily this week with some type of pre arranged financial settlement agreed to, for Martin to be named as the interim head coach, and for the new AD to monitor and observe for the rest of the season so the decision as to who if anyone stays will be made promptly and so the decision as to who will be the new head coach can be made quickly and seamlessly in early December. Taking Spaz out of the mix early will eliminate some if not all of the sword of Damacles environment between now and November 24.

Bill I dont understand that logic. Dont you want to give the new AD some cover. Spaz is a dead duck regardless so why not clear him out before the new AD is brought on?

i have to say the xavier guy bobinski seems more appealing than corrigan. bobinski had 3 really good HC hires (in bball but still shows good process and judgment) and has been the head guy at a school. would be happy with either though at this point, they should fire spaz at the introductory press conference.

I slightly disagree. I think the best option is that Spaz is fired so as to be clear this nonsense is unacceptable. I actually think that if it is done before the new AD is hired it actually sends a stronger message that Leahy made the decision and actually cares about the football program. I do agree that Martin should be named interim head coach and that McGovern and the rest of the defensive coaches need to be canned along with Spaz ... though I have no clue who the heck would run the defense.

It doesn't matter who would run the defense - it can't get any worse.

Can someone give us a brief history lesson on Boo and why he is the man for the job? Where was he before Army? Has he ever been an AD? Fire Spaz now so Martin can take over immediately as the interim. This is could be the lowest moment in BC Football history.

I don't understand what possible (and rational) reason there is to let Spaz stay on even a single day longer. How can it get worse than it is right now? Does anyone believe that keeping Spaz gives us a better chance to beat our remaining opponents than putting Martin as interim HC? Or any better chance of retaining/attracting recruits?

The Army loss is almost a blessing. With all due, genuine respect for the Army squad (who played a tremendous game) there is NO WAY the athletes on our team should have suffered that loss. It's almost as if he's begging to be fired!

I don't care who fires him - - new AD or current acting administration - - except for the sake of expedience. Put the poor guy out of his, and our, misery. He knows he's gone. Why prolong it?
I am sure he's a nice guy, and he served BC well for many years, but as HC he has been in over his head. He has to be suffering, and I can't believe he truly thinks he can turn it around. Ease his pain. Let him go.

I seriously doubt the players will be disappointed with his firing, even if they support him and tried to play hard for him. They know it's got to change.

No one benefits from this lingering lame duck situation. The stench surrounding this program needs to be blown out, the sooner the better.

Bobinski to stay at Xavier...so saysXavier Sports Blog:

"Disregard the rumors swirling around Boston: Mike Bobinski isn’t going to Boston College. The athletic director and chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee is staying at Xavier despite the articles and blogs speculating otherwise."

Gotta love Blauds. Even as everyone else seems to be breaking the Corrigan story he tweets that we are announcing Quenin Williams, a BC football alum and former federal agent, as our new AD.

Reason #69 to fire Spaz - In 4 years, he has yet to run a fake punt or a fake field goal. Hell, Jags ran 4 in 1 season! You have to keep teams guessing if you want to be successful. You also need to make the game fun for players and nothing pumps them up more than a successful fake. Yes, this can be risky, but it forces other teams to prepare for the unknown and keeps your team on the offensive. Spaz's play-not-to lose conservatism results in just that......losses. I can't wait until this black cloud is gone. Worse than fricken' Henning!

Some former BC coaches say it is Q [bc football alum Quentin williams] and Boo has said it is not him. I genuinely think it is Q. It just went against everything I heard heading into the weekend, until earlier tonight when BC guy told me no Boo. Another BC guy telling me Boo is telling people it is not him as of today. The BC guy has never been wrong, but he even he did not believe it was Q after he heard it.

Anyway, Q will definitely be an outside the box hire. While I was hoping we would get one, the issue with an outside the box hire is you are really trusting those who made the hire because they are outside the usual makeup. I am happy for the change, new blood and some real enthusiasm. I am eager to hear what he has to say. But the hire is a risk. Lets see what he can do.

Spaz should show some dignity and resign now allowing interim HCL to shake things up for FSU. Maybe Martin should be named interim HC but do it now for FSU. With many friends we sAt through the Army game. BC staff looked confused and not ready during key situations late in 4th qtr. Sorry to see the program come to this.
